Want to hear something I find funny?

Want to hear something I find funny?

Ok. I'll show some humility:

I got out climbed (all day) by a 20some year old little girl from the flats of Texas..who was racing her first mountain Ultra. Blew my mind how well she could climb..being that she didn't get to train in the mountains. I would catch and pass her on the downhills...but she would show back up on my heels...an hour or so later..on an uphill..and I'd give her the line. We kept going back and forth all afternoon...and kept hitting the aid stations at about the same time.

She had a moment where she came running back down a hill...thinking she had missed the turn..starting to panic..and then ran into me..who convinced her we were going the correct direction..and that all was well. " I don't want my opinion to influence your decision making...but I'm going this way..."

I didn't race her at the end. I stopped and ate that popsicle. She finished about 10 minutes ahead of me...and was one of the first people I did a fist bump with out of respect at the finish line. Told her she was tough.

* The finish line. Man...you have to experience an Ultra finish line. First off...you are kind of out of it..beat to shit and under the influence of so many chemical reactions in your own body...but then

all these spectators and other racers are there cheering...cow belling..screaming...the energy is incredible...it glows positive

When shit gets low...down and in the dirty dumps...I think about that feeling of crossing the line...being embraced by all that juice. Makes the pain I'm feeling the illusion it really is.

^ couple Jaundice f2 expression #2 clones...which didn't fade much in flush..but are done on day 63.

I'm getting there. Still haven't found exactly what I'm looking for in the Jaundice cross..but I'm getting closer.

^ Collecting Jaundice f2 pollen from the single male I have flowering. Tomorrow I'll pollinate both J1 and J2 in order to progress the line into the f3.

Jaundice = Bogbubble X Chem DD

............I have a lot of stuff going on this week...still feeling fried from the race....no rest for me. work work

** Next race is the Lost Boys 50M...April 30th....be back to training at the end of the week.

P3 - You gotta see the documentary, "The Barkley Marathon"

The ultimate endurance race, off the charts: 5 - 26 mile loops, 60 hours max to finish, no sleep, loops/laps alternate leaving day and night, 60,000 feet of elevation climb and 60,000 descent. 130 miles.....

Only 40 contestants per year are selected; only 15 have ever finished in 30 years.

I watched it. I'll be racing with that one dude....Nick..young long hair dude (wearing the trucker hat) in the documentary in the Lost Boys 50M race next month. He's a lot faster than me...and has got some international races under is belt. Lives in SD now. He's like 26 yrs old...hitting his prime. Front runner. His girlfriend jams too...fast.

I'd like to go back east and race the Eastern States 100M in PA. That's a newer 100...and super hard. One of the guys in my club ran it last year. said it was brutal. Back east the trails are different. They don't use switchbacks the way we do out west...so like in the Barkley...you're going straight up the gut.

I'll race anything. My wife being Swiss...has me looking at all the famous races in the Alps...and there is a 200 mile race in Tahoe that I'm starting to get my head around. At the Old Goat 50M..there was..a dude that my wife talked to who had finished it last year. 200 miles...wowzies...but then I remember when going 50 miles seemed unreal. state of mind.

* I'm recovered. Thinking about getting in a stretch run with my wife. My body has gotten used to distance. I don't feel any damage.

** Got my Jaundice pollinations done yesterday.

Skunk Day

Skunk Day

^ This is the SZSK f2 and Skunk Jones female population. There is no way I have the room to clone and keep each and every one of these. That has never been the plan.

what to do?

Simple enough:

Like always....as in...for as long as I've been doing this:

I've already selected my favorites...and they will be cloned and bred. I could put the males in now and pollinate each and every example....but I've found...through years of experience..that is not necessary for what I'm doing as a hobby breeder. I don't need to make 1000's of seeds using 13 different females....so some of these females are getting flowered just for bud. Just because they are not going to be bred doesn't mean they are not good for one run of bud

too much too much.

Small time enthusiast like myself...well...it is important to make selections from gut instinct...attraction and knowing your lines. I've gone on and on about that over the years...beat the same drum

I miss out on expressions here and there..but they've never been anything I couldn't live without. 90% of the time I hit and save the right expressions.

It's important not to lose your mind over details....just make the fucking seeds...sort them out..be objective and celebrate. Flower everything (if you want)...don't keep everything...enjoy the ride

SZSK = Skunk #1 "The Pure" X Chem DD

Skunk Jones = SZSK f2 X Casey Jones f2

I'll start flowering some of these today.

* I weighed myself this morning for the first time in many months. I'm down to 136 pounds. I don't believe there is any fat left on me. Have to say I feel great at this weight. My recovery off this last race has been amazing. If someone had a 50 mile race for me this weekend...I could do it. I see now that it's possible for me to race consecutive weeks. I don't mean survive them...I mean race them.

as it is

I have to cut down a bunch of mustard plants today. Mustard is a nitrogen fixer in my soil blends....so I'll cut it down and burry it under a layer of compost in the back bed. Traditionally I start planting carrots..chard...other frost tolerant stuff on April 1st....then start the non frost tolerant stuff indoors in mid April.

Sure makes sense to do this sport and just push up to, but not cross that line where you degrade your body. How else could those who are masters at this continue for years?

Exactly. I'm living in the present...but observing the nature of the game and looking at older runners (in their own present) and grasping what true endurance is all about...and more importantly...how to be successful as the years...mountains..miles go by.

At the end of Saturday's race my wife took a picture of myself and the 70+ yr old RD...Steve Harvey. The man's legs look like they could be only 30 yrs old. I see plenty of people 60 yrs old and beyond that are still kicking ass on the trails.

You have to be dedicated...you have to push limits...but the ending almost always comes from injuries of course. Not getting maimed or stricken with a long healing ailment is pretty much the key. There are plenty of ex runners.....plenty of operations....plenty of horror stories about those who tried to come back too soon.

Back to the garden bed I go. Planning out my crops...

If I was a trail runner, this would be a destination I'd shoot for:

http://mustangtrailrace.com/

There's so many...so so many. Have to admit..that one looks plenty good.

I really love running desolate...steep...and wide open spaces. Prefer sun and heat....limited clothing.

* I'm stoned as hell. Real happy stoned. I've been working down in the garden bed...removed the alfalfa mulch...spread out the mustard compost..and now about to blanket the top in cooked compost...but

anyway...came up to the house for a union break and checked my phone.

Received an e-mail saying that I'll be getting more support for training/racing dietary supplements. Makes me feel good...somebody is willing to give some logistical support to a 50 yr old trail runner..who has very little chance of actually winning a race...but who is willing to go past the walls. Willing to go any distance.

Grass roots..that's where I want to be. Right when a new company is coming on the scene and building momentum. Get in on the 1st wave....go for the ride.

At the least...I get all the product I need to continue this dietary program I'm using. That saves me a lot of money actually. It's not cheap stuff.

now you just need to figure out how to infuse those products with some thc...now that i can make rosin i should start bringing my vape pen along on longer rides, bho was a bit too much to deal with...some nice veganic rosin however could be just the ticket, especially the right strain...

Can you elaborate on the source of your Skunk #1 a bit? It may have been mentioned elsewhere and I overlooked it. I have some skunk #1 F2's that are old but I still have some hope for germination. I cant remember what mail order company they came from, but the original pack was bought around 1990.

They came from Flying Dutchman circa 2007/2008. I chose those because Sam Skunkman had stated they were pretty much the real deal..as far as...being what he bred Skunk #1 to be. Flying Dutchman called it Skunk #1 "The Pure"

..but they didn't all come out uniform. There was a squatter..more indica looking plant..but I bred to the classic christmas tree structured expression. Definitely more of a sativa. Sweet not skunk.

I've grown these f2's before. There were some ok plants..and I bred at least one to the Casey Jones f2...how Skunk Jones came to be. That was back in 2011 I think. It's in here somewhere..but the pictures are gone.

Believe I have a good batch of plants. Should have a really good look at both the SZSK f2 and the Skunk Jones. I've selected 4 females from each line...so far...to be pollinated. The SZSK in the f2 are not uniform...the Skunk Jones in the f1 look more uniform at this stage.

We'll see. I'd like to find a classic Skunk #1 structure but with the foulness/funk of the Chem DD. I find skunk aromas in the Chem related genetics....see if that can recombo up...I love classic Skunk #1 structure. It is a classic.

The Skunk Jones...I can almost promise I'll see Casey Jones. I've grown and bred a lot of Casey. It will show up. That could be really interesting.

I've been on this journey for a while now. 6 yrs ago I was running in old skool Vans. Remember those days? Remember when I was making tinctures for the trail? I still have jars of that shit around. Huge failure there....and edibles as well..failure. I can't get past smoking it. Nothing works as well for me.

Something tells me to keep gardening my cannabis....and the same Something tells me to keep running. So I do.

What's the connection?...where is the connection? and where does it go? I do not know..

Staying loyal to the pathway....without any faith...or anything..figure to keep shedding skin and transforming.

My body has changed. I look different than I did when I started...and have different perspectives...though many of those have stayed the same...as foundations. Distance looks different. Walls look different. I've seen huge walls.

It all parallels somehow. The gardening and the running. I'm unable to completely document it in one place. It would be nice to be able to be out in the open in the real world...but man..then again...no...it would be uncool. I will not document one without the other.

.....hope I get to ride this running wave into something else. It's my lifestyle...I'm so far gone...might as well find ways of making it support itself. These are great days.

Running High....Riding High....

* I'm off to get more rock. My God the mountain of it looks endless....

Up early

Up early

Got stage 2 of the garden bed to get done. Get that finished in the morning hours. Essentially just a bunch of shovel work. See how I feel after that..then might squeeze in a run.

I stretched last night..after moving another load of rock. Plan on getting more tonight and through the weekend. Keeping myself together conducting that activity is paramount. Must have some form awareness. Even if I do have that awareness...I also must have an endurance geared pace. Lot of heavy repetition.

my landing looks like a quarry.
