Any chance of a male in proximity? Temperature? You’ve got some great early trichome coverage!

I did a test pollination on a lower branch a bit later and the pistils go a different color and wither much more. So don't think it's a pollination issue.

It does get hot here so maybe it's the heat.

Yes it certainly is a frosty variety :)

Hi Nexus7 :) Glad to see your Malawi in flowering!

There are several reasons that can produce premature browning of the pistils, like pollination, drastic change of temps, extreme heat or cold, overfeeding, strong winds, insects. sudden change from indoors to outdoors, etc ....

Looks and sounds like New Malawi Killer pheno based on your description of her structure, post a pic of the plant structure if you have the chance.
Cheers!

dubi, I have the fruity pheno (at least i think so). I checked trics and there is the odd amber.

I am 70 days since flip (pistils showed day 10).

Will calyx swell more?

Your flower times are at flip to 12/12? Or pistils?

Maybe 14 more days?

Hi Legalcdn :) Those Malawi buds are swelling and sweating nicely! Looks very New Killer style. Does she carry fruity terpenes ?
IMO, they look perfect for chop time now.

Hey Dubi, I started from fem seeds too. From around 2018. So are the parents

Old killer x New killer (reversed)

Or is there some chance of fruity or purple pheno parentage?

Thanks

MALAWI SMOKE REPORT

From my Ace New Killer Malawi S1...I can’t show old pictures in the new IC or more likely don’t know how. You can see them on previous pages. Here’s the buzz on the buzz. Friends and I have smoked this one several times. 4+ months cured. Vaporizer, bong, joint, bowl in separate sessions. Given it was an S1, I wasn’t expecting amazing growth and she didn’t disappoint. Smaller plant with many trichome laden sativa buds.

Very much tea and wood aromas as well the smoke profile. Pinch the bud for a mild citrus which is more orange than lemon. Airy and resin covered. The smoke (and vapor) is smooth. Joint ash isn’t as grey as I’d like, so maybe for these buds another couple of months in the jar gets us there.

The high is very much so. High high energy. Very sativa daylight friendly. There has been business, trail bicycling, household chores and a lot of impromptu music played. It makes you feel really pleasant, happy and ready to enjoy whatever activity that makes you smile. Might not be great for random and not normally fun events because it’s not going to dumb or numb you down. Way more electric, smiling & tingling. No narcotic based on our experience. Just keeps you tight until you smoke a different plants effect. I just finished tonight with F13 and you can feel it muddy up the Malawi high, which is fine and sometimes necessary in the later hours.

It’s a heady buzz in a bud. Thanks Ace and dubi for this one. Thumbs WAY up.

Yield: 2 FEM Malawi clones
plant #1 : 175gr
plant #2 : 203gr

total is 378grms (13.3 OZ) curing at 64% RH in jars.
220w EB GEN2 2ft strips (11) covering 2.5ft x 4ft (10sq ft).

GPW: 1.7

Smoke is a bit strong and makes you forget things or what you were thinking of doing. I would not drive on it.

looking forward to growing killer a5 haze, GT, and MAL x PAN.

Dubi, thanks for breeding MAL.

Morning Guy's
very interesting thread. I am located in SA and over the last 24 years have had some nice Malawi coming through, over the years I have kept seeds from the Malawi Cobs but only started growing them out recently.I Must say Malawi is my all time favourite , from the smell/taste to the high. within the years smoking this strain I have came across 3 phenos 1 Fruity 1 that's woody/spicy (which is my favourite) and one that's a but minty. here are a few pic's of my current grow

I've got a few Malawi ladies that are heavily faded and mature at 84 days of 12/12. Going to harvest soon.

Hi all,

Thanks to Ace for their amazing work! I'm now in a position where I can finally try growing Malawi for myself in a few weeks' time. I have read mixed opinions online around veg time - can anyone weigh in with their opinion?

Background info

- 450W true LED
- Planning to grow 4 plants total, 2-3 of which would be Ace Malawi alongside a Panama x Bangi Haze, and maybe an Amnesia Haze from another breeder
- 4ft x 4ft x6.5ft or 1.2m x 1.2m x 2m tent
- Organic soil containing (amongst other things) peat, moss, perlite
- I'd prefer to grow in 3gal or 5gal pots and not transplant

I'm wanting to try for a decent yield, but obviously want to avoid them getting out of hand size wise.

Thanks

Hi Nexus7, sorry for the delay in the reply mate. Yes, that Malawi fem release was Old Malawi Killer x New Malawi Killer (reversed).
You will get 90 %+ of Killer phenos, fruity rarely, purple almost impossible.

Thanks Ur Humbl Nr8tor for let us know your opinion about your New Killer S1 female!
Glad it has been enjoyed by you and friends and that you got the more uplifting, happy and bright side of Malawi :)

Congrats!

Welcome to ICMag APAX :) A pleasure to learn from your first hand experience with Malawi cobs and their seeds. Fruiy and woody-oily yes, but i have never experienced a minty Malawi pheno, sounds interesting. I can find some similarities between your pics and our Malawi at same stage of development. Best wishes for the rest of the flowering, please keep us updated!

Bravo Azeotrope Those Malawi buds ripening look dangerous carrying the evil Killer Malawi resins ;) be careful with them!

Welcome to ICMag too Subu :) Thanks for your interest in our work, much appreciated.
The 3 strains you mention can be grown in the same cycle and same room since they all have similar sizes and flowering times.

There are many great examples of Malawi grown indoors in tents and small spaces here in this thread that i'm sure will inspire you for your grow.
When growing vigorous sativas from seed in small spaces it's better don't veg for too long and estimate in advance their stretching to make sure they don't overgrow the place before flowering starts.

Thanks. I have already looked at 15+ pages of this thread and over 20 other Malawi grows across multiple other forums. Most of the time people don’t list veg time or they have different growing conditions.

is there not a rule of thumb to follow in terms of ideal height to flip? I am guessing it is around 1ft tall in my tent with a 6.5ft height (less height factoring in the light)

Hi Subu,
I topped my Malawi, vegged for 25 days and ended up with a perfectly manageable plant - see my grow journal here.

Thanks that was very useful. I see you went with 7gals? Seems like a lot of people are doing 5gal or under?

I think I will try 5gals and a 20-25 day veg

5 gal would be absolutely fine, in fact I will fold the sides of my 7 gal pots down a bit next grow. My most recent pics feature the base grate setup which is a game changer for me - did you pick it up?

Here is the pic before the chop - Malawi left, BH right. I used two spare oven grates the standard pot saucers now slide under to collect runoff. The plant ties attach to the grate so out of the way
