a small pinkbud x fruit salad orgy

I wanted to run these a month ago but got them late do to the royal mail delays so i think im going to just grow these to make more seeds for next year or whenever. I started 4 about a week ago but fungus gnat larvae ate the tap roots & killed them before they could even pop up so i only have 5 seeds going now indoors & 2 outdoors.

Started the 5 in rockwool this time & just put them into cups of coco yesterday going to get masquito dunks to solve the gnat problem.

this is what im using:
2ft-8tube 192w maxlume t5 5400k
recycled canna coco
iguana juice grow for veg
floranova bloom for flower
in a DR100L

thanks peter, so far so good im interested in more people running this strain myself. I plan on transplanting the females into 1 gal pots as soon as they show sex i'll keep the males in cups i dont need a ton of pollen just a little bit. i should've just put them into 1 gal pots to begin with but oh well.I forgot to mention these are under 18 hrs of light im also growing a few non auto strains too so i'll switch the lights 12/12 in a few weeks.

Hey icon, looking good. I've been having a small battle with fungus gnats myself for the first time ever - think it was down to a new soil I was trying out.

Luckily they weren't in my Pink Salad tent.

I'd be tempted to run them 24/0 for the first 4 weeks if you're looking to get them the largest size possible?

I'm running mine 18/6 in the hope of a quicker finish time. I'm also going to make some seeds too to have some stock for future use, as I remember these F1's being a limited edition?

Best of luck anyway mate

Me too but just affecting my house plants.. i'm wondering if it's becasue i've been saving vegetable peelings and leftovers for composting in a bowl in the kitchen.. but they are going mad for a Ficus benjamina i've got in the lounge. Insectide spay doesn't seem to get rid of them???

always used to get them on my indoor grows.. H202 at 7% helps to a degree.

I've ordered some nematodes to water with, I held off watering for awhile, and cleaned down the trays everyday and they have almost dissapeared now.

like I say i've been lucky and never had any pest problems ever indoors before so it freaked me out a little!

hey guys thanks for stopping in, good idea to put the lights on 24/0 so for now on thats what its at, this is my 1st time doing auto indoors so im learning a bit. i got the masquito dunks i also have spinosad & im possitive that will kill the larvae so i'll mix the 2 & add it to my nutes.

some other ways to kill gnats that i was reading is you put out a bowl of water & add yellow food coloring or use a yellow bowl cause their attracted to yellow & the adults will drown themselves.also you can set out yellow sticky traps i read that setting them out horizontally works best but why not do vertical too?
also you can put a small piece of potato on top of your medium & the larvae will find it & feed off of it,they attach themselves to the potato & you can just pull it out with them still attached & through it away but that i imagine can cause mould or disease so may not be such a good idea.

the crazy thing is that my coco was bone dry for 2-3 months & then i watered my sprouted seeds & they never popped up when i carefully dug them up the seed shell was there surrounded by gnat larvae so i guess the eggs can survive a long drought.

Good call on the 24/0 - I just noticed it made a difference recently as I ran the same strain back to back on different schedules.

I ran SC last round on 18/6 start to finish, but this time I started them on 24/0 and they took on average another 4 or 5 days to sex. It might not be the case for every AF though.

Not being critical at all here, but I'm guessing the limiting factor to your setup might be the t5 light? But running coco should help them get big :) They are not monster AF's though by nature but perfect for a AF-SOG from the looks of them..

But it's a trade off in my experience with AF's the smaller they are the faster they finish up, as they get larger in scale that added veg time adds to the cycle time.

Will be really interesting to see how they do for you though :)

...................

The thing with my gnats is that there doesn't appear to be any larvae in the soil, at least when I am poking around in the top soil, but on the trays in the tent there are some tiny tiny white larvae that I have been cleaning up. They seem to be able to jump/hop. Maybe they are living in the very bottom of the pots? But an adult would be laying them in the top soil?

There is only a couple of adults flying around now and i've become pretty adept at clapping them dead!

I have a 250w & 400w at the moment & will be upgrading to a 600w in 3-4 months but im using the t5's cause its really hot & i dont really have an efficient way of cooling i dont want to run the a/c all day & night plus im really doing this to mainly make more seeds ide be happy with like 50 or something maybe i can get a little bit of smoke to sample as well would be nice i have 1 female i believe outside that i wont be pollenating.

i found my larvae about 1/2" down & have found them deeper before they'll go were the food is so i believe they can be fairly deep.maybe what i have could be something else i dont know though they looked like tiny clear worms almost like a mealworm but micro. ive seen fungus gnat infants i guess hop/move/burrow around.
anyway spinosad will kill any soft body insect with no problem.

GNATS!!!!!! The Arch Enemy!!!!!

You want them gone or at least under control?? Then put 3/4 to 1 inch of very rough sand on the top of your soil, purchase sand in play form, like for sand boxes, that way you know it is clean of seeds and insects. You can also try putting 1 1/2 - 2 inches of very fine perlite. They are like shards of glass to the young eggs and larva, cutting the little bastards to shreds while young and soft. It also makes it hard for the adults to get deep into your soil through cracks and holes. This will solve all your problems with them trust me. Also put a few yellow sticky traps around the room where the soil line is,, this will keep the adult population down and interrupt the life cycle.

Good call on all the above points icon, make a nice amount of seeds and then try a full tent. I'd do exactly the same. I forget that other people have sunshine in their summers!

Peace Mitch

thanks for the info guys i added a small amount of spinosad to my nutes & i dont see 1 sign of gnats so it seems that method worked well. i decided to just run the lights on 20/4 hrs cause i use a 435cfm valuline fan to suck out the warm air & its fairly loud & annoying its right next to my bed & hard for me to fall asleep even though i run it at 1/2 speed but i ordered some dynamat sound proofing stuff for car audio systems http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dynamat...0265260860&skuId=3877139&st=dynamat&cp=1&lp=1 i got mine for $24 on amazon free s&h/no tax i read on another site that you can stick it on your fan & it will cut the noise down by atleast 25% so if that helps alot i'll run 24hrs.

got my dynamat today & put it on stuff is sharp you basically have to use gloves or it will cut you up, it was a bit more complicated to stick on & i didnt do the best job but it works pretty well ide say it dampens the sound 25% & i will sleep better now for sure i even have about a 13" x 13" piece left. its still a bit noisey but much better, running the fan set on medium now sounds like im running it on low.

LOL Yet another fan in the bedroom! Love it man, guilty of sleeping with my plants as well... There is just something about smoking your weed that you have woke up to every morning and enjoyed watching them develop and ripen... much more satisfying.

Thanks for the update dude! How are the plants doing?
