A Sativa Discussion............

I decided to start this thread so that we could openly discuss the sativa side of the cannabis plant..
Feel free to post up strains you are presently growing, strains you have grown in the past and strains you wish to grow...If you have an intrest please feel free to get involved in the discussion and let us know what you think..

There seems to be a lot of false info out there where sativas are concerned..
There are also many mystical, special sativa plants around the community...Let's hear about those special individuals..

I personally try to grow out a couple of sativa strains with each new grow and presently have the Meao Thai,Sam's Skunk #1,Sam's Original Haze X Skunk#1,Sam's Thai Haze X Skunk #1 and my own Irridescent Haze(Neville's Haze X Blueberry)...All of my plants are in mid-flower and I will post up pics of each strain today..

Feel free to post up those sativas you have or that you might be presently growing and any other topics or questions you might have...

Take care and grow safe............................................CC

Thanks for posting up fellas

Thanks for posting up fellas

Motaco,
I have grown Oaxacan from the freebies Gypsy was giving away a couple of years ago...Looked very similar to your pics...The herb was quite different from what you might expect..

Closet Funk,
What is the Jamaican like? And the Barbados??/Would lover to hear the descriptions from those 2.....Whats your favorite so far?

The Lorax,
Whats the romulan sativa like? Was it found in Romulan seeds or crossed to a sativa like Hawaiian sativa?

Thanks fellas and take care........................................CC

Here are some pics from my present grow...

First pics are from Sam Skunkmans Original Haze X Skunk#1
You cannot see any Skunk in the plants but can tell it's there because the plants flower like a "normal" sativa . ( they don't flower for like 29 months and produce wispy frosty buds..)

It seems like it will be a 12 weeker with full frost sativa buds...The odor is so sweet!!!With a spicy edge!If you ever get a chance to grow this one do not hesitate as it is very nice indeed!!!I also have the Skunk#1 from Sam growing this grow for comparing the Skunk crosses....This Haze/Skunk is really starting to put on the trichs and should be coated by the time harvest comes...Should be very high THC.....

The 2nd group of pics will begin with theSam Skunkman Old School Thai Haze X Skunk#1....
The is some more fine ganja from this cannabis pioneer....Buds are spicy with a Licorice/Anise undertone right now...But I do expect this odor to change some during flowering...These plants are also showing good resin content for so early in flower...Many times with sativas only some will stand out as resinous plants and the others will be average at best but these seem to be more consistently resinous and desireable....

Old School Thai Haze X Skunk#1......

Hey Capt, i'll throw a pack of seeds into the talk. If you remember way back then. Dutch and Gypsy where growing out some Neville's Haze and Super Silver Haze. Well i got a pack of those that were mixed and crossed. Man, those where some awesome looking plants and it was sad that her place got raided. I'm guessing they should be as tall and as good as those. It's nice to see more and more sativa's here at IC. I don't know if you noticed it, but i've notice more sativa grower's here. Good luck and i'll be watching.
Take care,
BG

In the eighties, ( 82-88 actually) I had a couple of dealer buddies on the east coast with great connections, the weed was always from Cali, Vermont and sometimes Thailand with some brown kilo bricks of hash with stamps on them occasionally. There weren't any names but the choice was always green or brown bud. We were told that the brown was sativa. It always was a little harsher, an earthier smell, got you really stoned and sometimes if you smoked too much it could make you sick. The green was usually skunky and much more of a pleasant smoke. Looking back, the green could have been sativa as well.

At that time I had a friend who was an ambassador to the UN from Sierra Leone ( he died tragically in the 90's during that awful time...) He used to occasionally bring us weed in diplomatic pouches from africa. It was black and really dry in tin foil. The first time I smoked it with 4 friends, we all had to lay down on the ground for a while. The most intense weed I ever smoked. That was crazy shit.

I understand why indica became the smoke of choice for growers with increased yields and bag appeal. The commercial sativas that I got in NYC and Cali were never that impressive.

I just grew out some Nirvana White Widow, which while being absolutely fun to grow, was not what I expected. There were two phenomes, one being very skunky and fluffy and the other more solid and earthy smelling.

I also grew a cross between Lionheart and NYCD ( Desiak). A floral flavor. Both were described as sativas. Low yield.

The highs are more up although smoking although the Desiak will send you into the stratoshere if you aren't careful. I like the high since it isn't so narcotic as the stuff I used to smoke. But still, after 4 sativa leaning grows, I am feeling like I am not that into the sativas.

I like the flavor of indicas better. I haven't had good skunk since those days either.

Is skunk that actually smells like that old school skunk still around?

Please post your favorite sativas and why. Just as an education toward us indica leaning folks.

I have grown out Sour diesel 1.5, that was the most sativa I have worked with. I also grew out Basic Diesel, but that was more managable.

The best thing about the sativa is the high. Growing it indoors can get on my nerves. I generally prefer hybrids.

I love the highs of Sour diesel and Basic Diesel, it's some serisouly awesome/inspiring herb. Some of the best I have ever toked.

I have some OG Chocolate Thai seeds from DNA Genetics, should I sprout them suckers and get it started?!

diesels are great but its important to remember they are at least half indica stone wise.

well I am a longstanding sativa fan. "sativa" is really a relative term that means alot of different things to alot of different people. for the most part the word has lost all true value because people use it incorrectly to an extent. sativa just means a plant that adapted to areas closer to the equator. doesn't extend to type of stone.

But in the last twenty years in particular but even before that sativa has been on the decrease. we've seen an interest raised just in the last 5 yrs. most people americans and canadians I'm speakin of here primarily, but also alot of europe- have only had one sativa. they might get mid grade or brickweed sativa but not good sativa. the only thing people have smoked is HAZE- followed immediatly by its counter parts without them even recognizing it usually. c99, jack herer, ssh, etc etc I could go on but they are all haze genes.

haze is a electric paranoia racy crazy sativa. and thus changed the word. people smoke them and think almost all sativas are like that but they aren't. probably less than 20 percent are like that.

only a few strains from each given region is like that. a few mexis, colombians, thais mainly (whichly to nobodys surprise is a large part of the makings of haze) but even they have primarily stony strains.

africans, mexicans, south americans, colombian red, these are all stony strains. not up and run around. heavy, and dream like, drunken and buzzy. but most people don't know this because they don't grow them. and with reason, for a stony fucked up effect you can grow indica alot easier.

THE DIFFERENCE is with the right sativa, you can get alot higher than any indica. indicas have alot lower cieling. once you smoke enough you just don't get much higher despite how much more you smoke. you'll normally just crash.

the right powerhouse sativa (like federations hawaiian sativa or the right mexican or african) has alot higher bandwidth of stone IMHO (you feel it on more levels, alot of places in your brain indicas just don't get to) and they often have no or alot higher cieling where if you smoke enough you can get alot higher if your in for a night of abusing. also when going overboard with a strain like hashplant or g13 I get incredibly loaded but I tend to lose the euphoria. I just feel really loaded. with powerhouse sativas I usually still am having a good time when I'm overdoing it.

aside from the powerhouses though I like sativas because I find them to be more euphoric than alot of indicas. but not enough to spend the time on a sativa over a euphoric indica like bubblegum or mango.

so moral of the story, its good to keep one crazy exotic sativa powerhouse around, aside from a haze. check into hawaiian sativa. add more bandwidth to your powerhouse arsenal.

@kmarpa I would LOVE to get the chance to smoke some of those africans from that region. they are in too much political turmoil for anyone in their right mind to try to go and bring back seeds, but that is not the only tale I've seen.

just the other day I was watching a documentary on the child soldiers of liberia and the surround countryside and the diamond slaves and whatnot. Some of the rebels were skinning up about a 8 inch blunt while the UN commanding officer was trying to talk them out of fighting. some of them were too high to stand up. just incredibly loaded. I'd like to see the plants. I'd seen those black buds in hightimes before in an article about nigeria.

some nigerian I had

Kmarpa if you tell me what kind of sativa stone your chasing I might be able to help you. I've smoked a few. as far as old school skunks like you were speaking tfd the pure is one of the best seed deals you'll get its like 25 bucks for original breeder genes. the original skunk same parents as thirty years ago. sweet pungent floral buds. big yeilds. 70 day flower. classic.

if your looking for that old indica road kill skunk your either looking for "shit" from mr. nice which is the indica stinky skunk.

or your just chasing one of the old stinky ass ghanis in the area during the time. think garlic bud or kushes.

Kmarpa,
I am growing Sam Skunkmans Skunk#1 right now and it is as real deal skunk as you will find considering he is the one responsible for the strain itself...
The plants are awesome...All are uniform as if from clones,,the only real difference being a little stronger odor or resin content but the same odor among all plants..
The odor is just killer!!I do not know why I have waited so long to do his skunk#1 but I am certainly glad I did...And they make great hybrids..
I'll get some pics of the Skunk#1 tommorrow....

hiya Capt, gotta agree...sam's skunk really is a treat. really heavy plant with a real heavy punch to the face, an what a citrusy smell. what year are yours from? i just ran gypsy's freebies of sam's 2001 skunk #1 run. ahhh the memories...

my favorite sativa to date is still the kona cherry, the sativa i brought back from the big island in hawaii that smelled of cherries n was well, sativa to say the least ;) what a heavy hazy afterburn smell too. it's the soaring high that had me though. ahh well a picture says a thousand words yah...

and you're totally right about the skunk's hybridizing potential. when done against the old kona cherry sativa, the aromas exploded into a fruitbasket of pineapple plants, strawberry plants, lemon candies was incredible really and sativa qualities remained wonderfully prevalent, though variances of the skunk's background still pair up with a new p1's traits... in my case around half the plants, one pheno really gave those variances in the bud structure, as she was the female. but very stable when bred man ya will have fun with it i'm sure ;) also brought down flowertime a ton from the hawaiian 12 weeker hehe... a couple pics of the kona cherry x skunk #1 results...

keep up the great work capt! the thais have always held my curiousity at it's peak, so i love seein ya grow :) peace n green thumbs
