A Guide to Fishsticks

I need some help choosing an ro water system .
I recently moved and the new house is on a well with less than ideal water. It’s not filtered at all and comes out of the tap at 8.2 ph with 200 ppm. There’s no bad smell or taste but I’m gonna put a sediment and carbon filter setup for the whole house. For my closet grow I think I need to do ro water. I have a water heater just outside the room I could tap into for the ro and a mop sink I could install. I’m just not sure if a cheap to set up would be good or should I go with a better set up. I’m thinking unc has the worst water and has been dealing with the water issue for years so what to do now is my question?
Unless you are using bottled nutes or powders you dont need a RO. I ran Jacks 5-12-26 and had to have a ro. My PPM was 700. But my RO brought it down to about 150 and that worked good for me.

I just ran a cheap RO set up. Look at the cost of the filters if you do go with a RO setup. Filters can get expensive if you change them alot. I changed mine out about every 9-12 months. And also make sure they are available consistently. Sometimes I had to change them immediately because they stopped working. One time I had to buy a new set up because I could not get a filter quick enough for the RO unit I had.

But at 200 PPM that seems good to me. Test some acid to see how much you need to drop the PH from that 8.2. It didnt take much to move mine from 8 to 6.2. That was after the RO was done with it. My tap was about 8 when it went in the RO.

Another thing to keep track of is that the PPM and PH will fluctuate with the seasons based on rain. In the spring my PH and PPM was lower because of the snow. But mid to late summer it spiked again because of a lack of rain.

The cheap hydro logic work fine. I use the 300’s which get me an honest 75-100 gallons per day.
Membranes can be found on Amazon for around $25 a piece.
But for 200 ppm water I’m not sure I’d bother with ro, maybe just a good filter like the fishstick said.

I love my APEC ro system. It has been excellent for my house and grow.

This works great for me. I put it under the sink and run one line for drinking water and another line downstairs for the grow.
