Hey guys, my head is hurting right now so I'll have to catch up on reading what every one has posted later, as reading hurts.

I have a question for those of you who are selectively making seeds, have any of you made a box to shake (or sift) the seeds from the shake? I've been trying to think up a design to make harvesting seeds easier for me.

Yeah, well your old school method is okay for something that you're intending to de-seed to smoke. But that would be for like a joint or bowls worth, right Unc? So how long would that take you to do up 1/2 pound or pound or seeded nugs? An all day or many days event there in the making.

The cotton gin changed the way cotton is harvested. We need something like that for harvesting cannabis seeds and your old school ways are just that old school.

to separate seeds out? provided it was dry it would take me about an hour to get 90%+ of the seeds out,and with stuff in the kitchen...a colander and cookie sheet would be all that it took...if you're talking about prepping seeds for sale there are already seed sorting machines that the larger companies like greenhouse use...they vibrate and use puffs of air to sort out the seed coverings from the seeds...

but at home you can just use a big strainer with holes too small for the seeds to fall through, all you need to do is shake it and the seeds will start to separate out since they are denser than the husk, once its mostly sorted you use the cookie sheet and a card and tilt and shake the pan till the seeds fall to the bottom...

just because something is old school doesnt mean it isnt still valid...

Separate Seeds..

Separate Seeds..

Frisbee for the Win. Do an ounce at a time.

Make sure the Buds are completely dry. Break Buds up with fingers isolate seeds like you are panning for gold. Remove seeds.

Save the smoke :joint: do another ounce.

no rain yet today , maybe i can get out & get the lawns cut before they turn into a jungle ! the rain has turned everything green & growing nicely . plus it lifted the fire ban we had on untill May15th .
gotta dig out some pots for the wife to transplant her flowers in that she picked up last weekend . she's making a flower garden in front of the house .

:tumbleweed:i finally got most of the cactus moved out into the sun,im thinking i will put all the cactus that will survive, even the marginal ones,in ground and let them do there thing, had really good luck so far,i put a little saguaro cactus in 2 years ago and its getting pretty big so im gonna stick the big one in the ground since i know there 3-4 in town that are huge...but i have a bunch more that could go in ground and it would get the potted collection down to a manageable size...

but in spite of the lack of rain, loads of flowers here as usual..

I've looked and I've looked around here. I've checked out the kitchen wears and the strainers I can find have holes way to big or way to small. I've looked for wire screens and it's the same, either the holes are too big or they are too small. I'd like to find some screens that are several sizes as not all seeds are the same size.

:tumbleweed: coolers dont look too bad, think i can get away with just new water lines for now,i really just need the cooler in the back up and running,i can deal with the house being warm for a bit,but since just getting the water running to that one will be happening at the same time as the back building that should be easy enough...only 13% humidity out right now so the coolers work super well in these conditions...

gotta run to wallyworld to get water line..

its hard to removed seed from fresh bud, its needs to be dry as hell, i use a small box like a allbem cover, just sqush the buds an shake.
good luck

The dryer the flowers the easier the seeds come out. I use my Doobie Duck photo to sift after I crush the flowers. He grew my GDP x Querkle and sent me this a few years ago.. Its printed on plastic.

If its really dry crush it up fine, and with a large pan or cookie sheet let gravity and a lifting card do the work. Like using a record album or Frisbee but more space. I use a pencil with a sewing needle through the eraser to go through buds for seed if they aren't dry enough to crush and sift.
