BIG facefull of SOUR
BIG facefull of SOUR
These are getting the axe tomorrow morning. Thought I might take a picture or two before they're dispatched.
I learned to better utilize the General Hydroponics Flora series on this run. I was having issues of underfertilization for a long time. I like the idea that less is better, but there is a limit to that thinking, and I know that limit a little more intimately now.
I was feeding the straight 6/9 recipe, with the addition of 2ml of the Gro per gallon as well... the modified "Lucas formula" espoused by Rezdog. But that recipe doesn't necessarily have the strength my plants seem to require.
The 6/9/2 just doesn't get my water to a ppm strong enough to keep my girls happy, so I amended the recipe to get us to 1000ppm. At 1000ppm the plants were liking life a lot more. I stayed there for a few weeks and watched. They were better than before, but needed more still. Now I'm giving them 1200-1250ppm, and the results are even better than 1000ppm. I'm very happy with this current strength, it's right for the amount of light the plants are getting.
Never having been completely satisfied with the taste of herb grown with straight-up Gen Hydro, I have been looking for a simple addition to the program that would add the natural essences back to the herb... I started using Floraliscious Pro for this reason. Been using it for a couple crops now, and I can say very confidently that it is doing what I hoped it would do. The herb smells and tastes more natural now, and I am happier than ever with Gen Hydro. Like anything, it took a little adjusting to get it working like I wanted. More tweaking will, of course, take place.
These Sour Diesels (in the pictures) show signs of my experimentation... Notice the extra bulbous texture to the buds? The nubs that poke out all over? It's not too pronounced but it's visible. This was due to being underfed for the first few weeks of the flower period. Once the ppms were increased from the regular 6/9/2 formula, then to the 1000ppm formula, and finally to the 1200-1250 ppm formula... the buds grew at a more vigorous rate. This retarded growth period followed by a faster rate is what causes these kinds of textures in buds. Foxtails are most often a result of a slow down of bud growth, followed by a resurgence in growth later. If you imagine all the spaces between the foxtails all filled up with bud, THAT'S what the bud was supposed to be if there were no interruptions. Common causes for these interruptions tend to be... pollination, pH imbalances, waterlogged roots, periods of drought, root rot, etc. Anything that the plant suffers from, but gets through will cause foxtails.
Although these Sour Diesels are now perfect, they sure do look and smell fantastic! I smoked a sample of this crop today, out of my new, high speed vaporizer... Zang! It's good, yessa! Full-on Sour Diesel flavor, intense high. Very nice. That vape gets me rip-shit stoned now that I know how to get the most from the herb.
Anyhow, I've said enough... Here's some pictures.
