I started construction this morning. I took a few too many smoke breaks and didn't get a ton of stuff done, but here are some pics of the things that did get done.

This first pic is just a shot of the materials I've had to buy so far (except the reflective mylar, I had that lying around). There is a double lamp socket, lamp cord, 6500K light bulbs, some hinges, wood screws, weather stripping, factory size glass pane, and 1/2" MDF. I used MDF because it was cheaper than ply, but this shit gets crazy with saw dust.

I'm sure I'll be using more materials than these, but the rest of the stuff I already have here around my house.

This is a pic of a cut being set up....

and finally I have all my MDF carcass pieces cut to dimension and labeled....

I had to stop for a while, but I'll pick it back up this afternoon. The next thing to do will be routing a channel for the glass, then coating the inside of the carcass pieces with mylar.

I hope so GL... I really need the space....

I haven't had a ton of time to work on this thing today. I've done what I can so far and I'm sort of planning on busting ass tonight until it's finished. I'm uploading some stuff now so I can take a break from the sauna that is my workshop.

this is a pic of the fence I set up to router the glass dado.

picture.php

here's the first dado, 1/8" deep and 1/4" wide. The side pieces have dado's all the way through, but the back piece has a stop dado on both sides so I had to start a pilot hole with a drill....

this is a side resting on the back...

I had to break down and buy a little fan. I thought I had one but it wouldn't work. Here's the beginning of the fan hole. It will sit on the back wall in the center of the light chamber. I traced the fan body, located the center, then used a compass to outline the diameter of the fan blades. When that was done I started a drill pilot then ruff cut the hole with my jig saw.....

picture.php

then I refined the shape with a rasp...

picture.php

when the hole was how I wanted it, I started to free hand route the box shape of the fan. If you do this, just make sure to stay inside of the lines...

picture.php

I brought the box shape down 3/8" with the router. I made 3 passes at 1/8" each. After every pass I cleaned the shape to the lines with a sharp chisel.

picture.php

the fan fits nice and snug. So much so that almost couldn't get the fucker out!! lol.. I wanted it that snug though so I didn't have to secure it with any hardware. This way if the fan ever dies, I can pop it out and replace it with a new one...

I'll post more pics as I get shit finished.....

so it's late and I'm tired, I want to finish this cab.... but I ran out of fucking screws!!! I even drove to the local 24 hour mega mart to find them and they weren't there... Oh well, I'll be back at it bright and early tomorrow.

Before I realized I had no screws, I finished putting the mylar on the carcass pieces. This stuff can be a bitch to work with. It's super springy and wants to snap back to being rolled up every chance it gets. I have to clamp it to my bench to make it behave. Once it's laid out, I put a panel or two in the middle and coat it with a layer of spray adhesive. This stuff can suck to work with to. It gets airborne and falls on your arm hair, making it feel like spider webs are constantly on your arms.... but it works, and that's all that matters.

picture.php

When the spray is tacky to the touch, I flip the panels over and stick them down. I used scissors to cut the majority away before razoring the edges off.

then I had this....

.... to be continued

so I'm getting closer, but damn this shit is taking a long time.

I left off with needing screws.... specific screws; for pocket holes; which I got...

picture.php

once I had the screws I could start cutting the actual pocket holes: for that you'll need a jig like this one from Kreg. This model has a vacuum shroud, and it works amazing well.

picture.php

this is what a pocket hole looks like if you're unfamiliar

picture.php

then I clamped it all down and sank in the screws. Pocket holes are great because they're super quick to make, and they're so strong that you don't really have to use glue.

GL, thanks for the nice words man....

I made a separate thread for this cab build in the growroom designs section, but here's how far I got today. I'll finish by putting on the door tomorrow.

all finished and full of plants...

here are the two Ukhem's. The one one the left is pretty interesting. super fat leaves for such a young plant and the new leaf growth has grown out as one leaf or like a Siamese-leaf.

Thanks man, I think I've decided to install an intake fan, but other than that it's been working well.

Weekend's been awesome so far. Trimming my buddies plants, grilling red wine sausages from the butcher, and drinking 60 minute IPA's....

I'll post some new pics tomorrow. My wife's gone with the camera all day.

Hey man, how are the little ones coming? Got any new pics. I'm looking to compare apples to apples as we're both testing UKhem. How are they liking the cab you built?

well, the Ukhems have had a bit of a rough life so far, lol. One of them stopped drinking and stopped growing for a while. I have no idea what the hell happened, but I thought it was going to die. It's still alive but it's not growing very fast at all. I'm giving it another week before I cut it down.

The other one had the mutated conjoined leaves, and that fucking mutation stopped new growth from forming. I had to top the fucker at the first node!!, lol. Other than that it's fine I guess.

And Chem Jones is rocking....

this is the one that stopped drinking..

here is the one I had to top..

hey amoS, thanks for the kind words. I didn't even realize you wrote that until today....

here are a couple of update pics. I ended up cutting the little stunted Ukhem out. It just wasn't growing fast enough.

here's the chem jones. I just topped it a few days ago.

picture.php

and the Ukhem that was topped out of necessity. She's been growing fine ever since. It's definitely out grown the little solo cup that it's in though. I'll be repotting it this weekend.
