Nice Trees Mendo my friend, I would love that space top work man.
You have to be a glutton for punishment to get into growing, and expect disappointment.
i feel the same way, been getting a lot of questions from people about "why are you not topping"…..you dont realize until you see a 8ft plant that there is absolutely no need to top it, the lateral growth always fills in nicely if theres enough sunlight surrounding all sides of the plant.
those ladies are looking great man seeds are the way to go!

Topping also help people to control they height,when the growth stunts for a little!
I live in non-legal country and growing outdoor,so i did topped alot of times before preflowering and alot of training in the start!

Topping can be a good strategy.
It produces lots of bud sites and can keep plants form getting to tall.
Like over your fence if you have height restrictions.
If done early it does not effect growth as much.
I just hacked 1 of the plants in the garden like a ninja. It was pre-flowering to much for my liking at this stage. I ruined its night will see how she recovers.

Just a thought on topping...as mentioned, topping has a benificiial effect of height and perhaps more buds sights.
But in my experience, even though you get more bud sights, they do not get as hugh.
However, I think, at least in my experience that you get more with many smaller buds. fewer larger buds.
Also, for me at least, this leads to less loss due to cats/budworms.

the pests will come no matter how big the buds.
preventive maintenance will keep them in check.
I like topping cuttings to force lateral growth, but seed starts the laterals just shoot out and up with no training and produce large colas.

I've always topped on the understanding that it increases your upper canopy size therefore increasing number of top colas (the biggest). Also, there is a lot of bud mold around and the arm size Colas are the first to get attacked. Not to mention that those giant colas end up having inferior looking bud with lots of white/albino looks on the interior.
I have topped my plants once they reached 7' and had great results. That way it doesn't effect the overall structure of the plant, but you avoid the one large mold susceptible nug. However I normally do not top my outdoor plants unless height restrictions.
White/albino interior is likely a sign of incipient mold.

Hey Mendo, I've noticed you dont have a fence around your garden, ever have any issues with deer or any other wild life? You ever have any mold issues? I think keeping plants strong and healthy will have a greater impact on mold issues than topping them. I seem to remember you laughing at someone for asking if you were concerned about your plants last year when a little rain came through late in the season. Thanks for the info.

They cant eat to much, I hope they get stoned.
They don't mess with the plants to much.
The deer will eat some lower fan leafs in late season, I was going to try to hire them as trimmers.
they cant reach the plants they are so tall.
This garden does not have the climate for mold. To sunny and dry.
Another garden its a problem. I lost an entire plant to PM last season, I just threw it out. I would not do anything with that crap. it was like a 4# skywalker.
I was not happy, but.........
Quality over quantity!
I don't fear the rain.
