"BLUE" bulbs in a regular flourescent fixture works just GREAT! I can't imagine my plants getting any bigger any faster, being any greener. Has anyone else ever just used plain old flourescent lights in veg, like me? Jesus, with a Stativa hybrid, you aren't letting the suckers go beyond 24 to max 30" in veg anyway! Is all that other stuff you guys are talking about really worth it?

I took the Ed Rosenthal route. Fuck the hype. I smoke my leaves and male plants too! So there! I have outed myself. I must admit to being impure.

what kind of fluoro's do you use...the bigass shoplight types
with the 48" bulbs of the smaller under-cabinet types
with the 18-24" bulbs??

My brother sammy, lemme tell ya!

My brother sammy, lemme tell ya!

Man fuck all that big ass expensive grow shop shit. For vegging I swear by the regular like $10 fixtures and 87 cent bulbs. When you look up at the lights being demo'ed you will see that some are bluish, some white, some reddish.

Get the blue fuckers. They are so cool you can get them really close. Add a fan and you can almost lay them on top of the fuckers. I use 24 inchers, but Ed (rosenthal) suggests 48 inchers or bigger. That is for electrical watt use effeciency, which is less important to me than a convenient size and manuverability.

I have like 20 24 inch fixtures. The bulbs are so cheap, I trade out for new ones every sixty days or so, about one and a half or two veg grows. They have a sweet spot in the center and lose effeciency as you you go towards the two ends.

That is the reason the bigger the tube the better for general effeciency. They have a bigger growing area, because the sweet spot is bigger, because they are longer. I then use these like mirror sheets to form reflectors, and have everything surrounded by mylar.

The shit grows like weeds, and I am at a minimum of 18" to 24" within 30 days, from seed; and about two to three weeks more for clones. I guess I start out with little clones? I can make em from little baby scraps of branch tip.

I swear to God you make me laugh!

I swear to God you make me laugh!

Sammy,

You will be happy with the results using the shop lights. Don't forget to get "blue" tubes.

One good thing that Home Depot does have is $59.99, 70 watt HPS lights for outdoors (from Coopers Lighting). But I use mine indoors no problem. They make great verticle lighting suppliment to your overhead horizontal HPS.

You got a 400 watt HPS if I remember correctly. That extra side light will give you better buds farther down the plant. You have to put a piece of electrical tape over the photo eye, as they are set to go on automatically at dusk.

Just a tip if you have to take a merchadise return credit for the florex.

Thanks for making me laugh! I mean I laugh out loud when I read your shit man. I know I would have a blast getting blasted with you some day. We should organize an IC memeber west coast rally somewhere someday. A private smoke out among friends. Now THAT would be a blast!

Blue Flouro's?

Blue Flouro's?

I'm using some basic shop lights for my veg room. There 48incher and the bulbs I'm using are phillip's cool-white plus' they put out 3200 lumens with a color temp of 4100K. I'm a little confussed, go figure, about what you mean by the blue lights. Are they different then your basic flouro's I guess. I've looked at the bulbs avail. at Home Depot and Lowes 'til I'm dizzy and the more I look at them the more I have no idea what I'm doing. I think I'm getting pretty good results as it is, but I'm always looking to increase the speed of bud production. Smoking leaves only gets you so far.

So, PTD what's the brand and what not of the bulbs yer burning? Also this 70w HPS are you aiming that at the sides of the flowering plants?

Pac! U on it!

Pac! U on it!

Pac,

I can't give you a model on the flouros, because I get mine at a place called B&Q. Those worldly ones will now know where I live. At any rate, it is the same thing as a Lowes or HD. I buy the cheapest ones that they have and they are the house brand. I am pretty sure that cool white is a blue bulb.

I am a Rosenthal purist, because he is so real about the whole growing process. As he explained it, and as I saw at the store, where they had the different tube types plugged in; you can see by looking at the lit display bulbs that while they all give off light, but some will have a faint blue tint, some a faint red or pinkish tint, and some will look pretty white.

This is because of different technologies used in their manufacture effecting the wave length of the light they give off. You want the bluish ones. MH lites give off blue spectrum light as well and it is this wave length that the plant appreciates most for vegetation.

As far as the HPS that they sell, I am using them both ways. My first six clones that I grew out of my magic first seed on the window sill all went completely through flower and gave me nice tight buds of kick ass pot. And all I used was two of those 70 watters on em.

Now, my grow closet will hold eight 5 gallon pots, so I have em hanging on the opposite ends of the closet so the two plants on each end get the same intensity of light as the four in the middle directly under my horizontal 250 W HPS. Then on the bottom, even though it is the flowering closet, I have two four tube flouro fixtures that are for overhead retail lighting.

I will say again, in my opinion, that keeping some blue light (even though it will not help that much for the purpose of flowering) in the mix during flowering, creates an environment more conducive to revegging, and maintains lower plant growth as the plant generally flowers from the top down.

Hope that clarifies what I was trying to say!

I used 2 Flourex light bulbs. To make my new waiting to be used veg box outta rubbermaid bin. i used a flood light fixture $5 @ wally world. they have the kind with sensors and the kind without sensors. I bought w/o spliced the fixture into an extension cord. so i can plug it right into my surge protector. waa laa .. i had the option to hang the fixture from the lid or from the side i chose the side. then made some homie reflectors outta coke cans... lined the inside with reflective insulation.
And im ready to roll ohh also cut some intake & outake holes on cross sides upper & lower... and have a few small clip on fans when needed. these lights dont run that hot
75 w natural daylight bulbs.. i ran the lights for like 20 mins it was just right.. didnt check the temp though.. noobie still.. but just from feel it was not hot inside the bin..
the bin has room for clones and new girlies soon to be ladies.. im know it will work.
anyway peace just chiming in to this thread i found... peace
