600watt compared to 400watt hps

exhaust the hot air out of the room..?!

ah, if only it were that easy.

vortex exhausting cabinet+passive intake=110degrees

vortex+cooltube =100degrees

vortex+cooltube+2x 12v muffin fans+passive intakes=95degrees

apparently the brute force of a vortex fan just isn't enough when in such a small space..

i am going to buy a 400w cooltube setup with a traditional ballast and use a ceramic metal halide...any thoughts on this idea? they are supposed to run much cooler than a standard 400w hps, and 400 is 1/3 less wattage so it should be a significant heat reduction...any feedback on this idea is appreciated!

I think a 400w is easier to control in a cab that size, mine is. You should have one end of your cool tube open and allow it to suck the hot air out of your tube and the box and out the back of your exhaust. Dont push that air heated by your light into your box, it should be expelled.

I dunno about the CMH running cooler. I put one in to replace a standard MH and didn't see any real difference in overall temp. Supposedly they "throw" less heat, meaning you can get them closer to the canopy but my reflector shows the same or even slightly higher temp on the top of the reflector when checked with an infrared thermometer. I could have a MH or HPS inches away from the canopy anyway so I don't know that I've gained anything other than no HPS orange glow. I still like the CMH but not for heat reasons.

going from a 600 to a 400 will make very little difference since the hot exhausted air is still being exhausted into your room and thus recycled through your cab.

the only 2 options that I see making a real difference using an HID light is to cut a hole somewhere and pipe the exhaust outside or get an air conditioner setup in that room to run while the lights are on.

alright guys here is a possible setup since it seems like i am being forced to get this air completely out of the room.

That would probably work - you just need to get the hot air out of the room.

AH YAH ,sorry but yes you really need to move the air ou of a window.

SCRUBBER>DUCTING>COOLTUBE>DUCTING iNLINE (PULLING)>EXHAUST OUTSIDE OR ATTIC.
The key to growing is the environment, expell the hot AIR. you need twice as much intake as exhaust so you need 12" of intake air since your using a 6 " and probably 6 '' ducting out. do this and it should not be a problem.

what are the ambient temps outside the cab???

hope this helps as im sure you should be able to run a600 maybe overkill but you should be able to bust it out.

my 2 cents

you wont need 2 fans inline as you have in the drawing. the 2nd fan pulling air thru the tubes just before exhausting will be plenty. just make sure it is pulling the air out as opposed to pushing the air out. It is much more efficient this way.

Man, I had exactly the same issue, until I cut a hole in the ceiling and vented directly into the attic.
I got away with venting back into the room with my dual 150w's.......my 600w: not so much!

*****You must remove the hot air. You are just recirculating it.
