600 vs 1000W

I know this has been covered but heat and power usage is my main concern vs reward. I do not really want to run an Ac unit to keep the room cool (more Power). This is going to be a quick run in the Fall just 60days for flowering. Hope that covers it?
5x8 area is it better to use 3-4 600watts or 2-3 1000w?

4 x 600w would be better than 3 x 1000w cos you get better coverage and have them closer the plants.

Power bill would be almost twice if you went with 1000's..I have a 5x10 tent running 2 600's over each 5x5 area and thats plenty of light..

3 1kws are gonna cover that space just fine, and get deeper into the canopy.

75 wpsf > 60 wpsf, period

3000 is not double 2400, so I'm not sure how you figure...

I like 1kw in small spaces!

You can guess where my vote lies :D

This is what i was thinking marijuanamat what is the optimal distance for a 600w 4x4 so overlap and what about height I thought a read about 14 inches.

Nite Tiger, the problems with the 1000 Watts are twofold: (Maybe) Heat is a major problem, if not please help me work through that. I have been using 600W and played around a little bit this last time and the 1000w did produce a larger Cola. Maybe various reasons but it did what i expected or wanted to see. But, it seems that since you have to raise the light from the plants for the burn factor you lose the canopy benefit. :pimp3:

Optimal distance for a 1kw is 4x4 :D

That's what my setup is - 4x4, and you can tell how close the plants are to the light. You are planning on air cooling your lights, right?

What kind of Ambient temps are you looking at in the fall, because I'll admit, I'm in the South, and it has to get pretty chilly for me to be able to go without the A/C.

I'd have to say the 600w
is the most effeicent so I would go with 4 x 600 vs. 3 x 1000 startup is more but in the end I think the sixes will be your best bet!!!

Them 1000s get HOT as a mofo - Have to say your better have some good cooling in place with either setup..

The 600s would be less hot & get better coverage.

well this is the problem i have as well. i am going to have a space that ui can build anything from a 5'x5' to a 6'x8'. I have been having trouble deciding between 600's and 1000's.

what difference does the electric ballast do for it? lower heat?

thanks

For that space & the good budget - I would get the best of these:

4 - 400W HPS ballasts & run CMH Mastercool bulbs
4 - Nice air cooled wide footprint reflectors
1 - Large UVB Light

Search CMH & UVB before you buy anything.

You will have a cutting edge setup w/ much less heat issues, lots saved on electricity - & money left over for other stuff.

my Bunkbed (6 x 3ish) is running under 600watt...
pretty happy with coverage. 1k never entered my mind, as i want to go 2 x 600s in there. lol. call me crazy but yeah.... we all know what more light does.

vote: 600s
