5gal vs 7gal pots canna coco

With everything else being the same, light, veg time, plant height ect, would/should there be a noticeable difference in yield between a 5gal an a 7gal pot?

I'm thinking about buying all new 7gal pots(36 of them) which is slightly on the expensive side right now. I already have 5 gal buckets I've been using for years with good results. I mainly want to move up to 7gal for slight less watering frequency. Every 2 days in flower with the 7gal vs every day sometimes in the 5gal

If you add more soil volume you will have to add more water. 😎
You referring to the little 5" pots? They will be going into 2 gal, 7.5" pots next week or when every I have time to pic up 12 bags of coco. Depending on my money situation (I budget out nutes an light bill an set aside before each run) I will be picking up 7gal buckets for them to finish in.

Edit lol: I thought this was in my grow diary lol, that El Chapo is strong let me tell you. Anyways, the 7gal should hold about 2gal of water which I'm perfectly ok with. The 5 gal holds 1.5gal ish depending how root bound it gets towards the end. I would love to be able to split the waterings up so I'm not watering 24-36 plants every day plus mother's an clones ect. 12-18 plants a day is more reasonable.

Why would anyone ever need 7 gallon containers for coco? 20 ft ceilings + unlimited lights and space not to mention time? To me the entire purpose of using cocoto me is small containers + multi feed = max yield low time.

i just moved from 5 gallon to 7 gallons of coco and i have to say HOLY FUCK!!!

i vegged my plants to the usual size and flowered and the plants blew UP!!! i have 5 plants in a 5x5 tent. im guessing i'll hit 3 pounds easily this time.

vs, the previous record of 2.4 pounds from 8 Chem 91 in 5 gallon pots.

Edit: im getting 10 gallon pots to flower my Flavor Countrys out. SIZE MATTERS WITH COCO!!!! and other things...

Lateral root growth generally determines plant size. If they getting root bound then more space can't hurt.
I disagree. The entire purpose is to fill the pots quick and crop steer your way into big big yields. How the eff do you get fast dry backs and hit the plants with proper multi shots using giant pots? Veg time becomes counter productive if going by canopy size so I truly don't see the point. Sounds like something people who hand water would do .

Is your feeding schedule automated? How long do you veg for?

2 gallons of coco, should yield around 2 pounds.

Looks great bud.
I have never used more than 2 gallons. The shops don't even stock 7 gallons. A few 5s perhaps, but 2 is your typical big pot. Used about 4 pots per meter.

I wonder what the expectation is of a 7 gallon. A pot meter meter I guess, to get them pack numbers of 500-600 grams.

Your pot size to pot yield is about peaking I would say. I have had 4.5oz from a liter of coco, but it was a random event. 3oz per liter is more typical, as you have here. Maybe 5 fertigations a day though. So not for hand watering.

like @Treetroit City mentioned.. its all a matter of preference, in this case you are looking to water less so yes a 7gal pot will benefit you over a 5gal pot.

What is being pointed out here is the diversity in how coco can be used.

well yea, depends in your set up.

DURP

everyone knows you can grow trees in 6" rockwool cubes or 1-2 gallons of coco.

I hand water so while I could grow trees in a 2gal bucket(actually my last grow was in 2gal buckets) hand watering so often is annoying plus with my current medical conditions isn't realistic in my new room with 18-27 flowering plants plus mother's an clones.

That's why I'm debating going 7gal vs 5gal. But it was brought to my attention, a 5gal paint bucket filled all the way is closer to 6galons. So there probably won't be much difference.

7 is still 40% more than 5, no matter how you use them.

It's a lot of work, all them big pots. It must take some sifting. In physical labour terms, a drip system might be a lot easier. A 7 gallon will take a bucket of feed. That is quite a tank. The maths suggest the grow is quite a size, so why not automate it?

We have a few people on here can build a proper system, using small quiet pumps and self regulating drippers, that will all work the same. Tank that fill and drain if you want. Even self dosing, or forget the tank completely and add feed into the garden hose as it flows. These inline things are like $100 now.

If you don't wish to take advantage of coco with fast dry back and multi feeds then why not just use a bigger pot use promix and continue to hand water.

Have links to a good diy setup?

I've always used coco with canna coco nutes and got great results. Always hand fed. Now that I'm getting older it may be time to switch to automated.
