I have a 5 year old (and wife), and if I wasn't able to be doing it legal then this scenario probably would lead me to shut things down for now and figure out a better plan in the future. Not worth being arrested and family suffering...

I think distraction for a 5 yr old is a good tactic tho, and I have used it. I have a locked, small setup in my garage and there have been a couple times when my son has seen light coming out of the cabinets that daddy built... "daddy is there fire in there?" (hps) quick change of the subject and he forgets about it. I know at some point that won't work anymore. But I do gardening and grow all kinds of stuff as well, and at this point its fine if I also have a couple special plants sitting outside with all the rest. I only do work on my indoor setup early morning or when I'm home alone, so 95% of the time I just have a couple locked cabinets in the garage that are pretty inconspicuous.

Take it from someone dealing with a situation from 06 still fighting with a crazy woman, and no end in sight, my kids hurts over the none valid things that can come in the middle of a foundation of belief as MJ, or anything for that matter. The growing tomatoes to help kill the kids view of the weird plant is well thought out to a point, but at this junction aint respecting the sever situation you do have. Kill it, your grow is burned, and never risk your child being taken by the govt, trust you dont want that at all.

If your woman is already not on the same page, best believe some jail time and them saying she will never see her kid again will make her find the right page, and I aint never seen, or heard of a woman giving up her kids for such a cause yet. The kid should have never had the opportunity to see the grow, and it has nothing to do with the plant being dangerous, there are some very bad men (and women) that will kidnap him if they find out about this. I think you are getting some terrible advice here.Whether you continue to grow or not is a tough call, but people who are telling you to bring a five year old up to speed on your hobby are irresponsible and out of touch. A five year old cannot possibly understand the consequences of growing. It is way too much information, completely unnecessary, and wildly reckless. A child's mind is sharp but easily distracted. Don't ever bring this up in conversation with ANYBODY. Let the kid forget. Put a few veggie seedlings out, have the kid get used to you growing stuff. Houseplants, outdoor garden, flowers. Don't say shit to the kid. There are stories all the time of kids getting their mom or dad busted. They don't know the reality of the world.
You, on the other hand, need to seriously tighten your game. If a small child can wander into your grow you are doing something very wrong. A room within a room, behind a closet or shelving, easily locked, not easily seen or penetrated. Only entered when its safe to do so. Only enough for personal use, plant count minimum,all the technology needed for success. I have lived in a very unfriendly state and grown for myself for 8 years and for the very first time smoked this summer with a few people I know. Nobody knows I smoke, nobody sees me smoke, nobody has any idea anything about me. That's the way I need it to be. Sounds like you do to. Good luck
