5 Gallon Home Depot Buckets??

Lots of water

Lots of water

It is an outside grow. About 50 pots from 3 to 30 gallon. I have an aluminum "tub" that holds about 60 gallons and I fill it at least three times a week. I usually water 3 to 4 times a week. This tub is actually the cover to a large vent stack that was blown off a building during Hurricane Rita. It sat next to our building for a while so I took it home. I probably exaggerated the amount of daily watering I do - it's closer to 30 gallons a day. And yes, most of the time the humidity is from 70 to 90 percent. Your indoor temps are probably in the high 70's or low 80's. My day temps are consistently in the 90's. I have had some wilting in the smaller pots and hoping the 2 inch reservoir in the 5 gal. bucket will help avoid that.

What kind of yield does everyone get when growing in 5 gallon buckets and the roots pretty much use all the soil?

Got to be able to drain. They'll like that much more. Heat up a nail and hold it with pliers and melt through. Much easier with a big drill bit. And a container underneath to drain into. You won't be a, as said above, a perfect waterer everytime, eventually they'll drown.

I get in 5 gallon buckets with my AK47 strain and in promix about eight ounces of bud each plant bone dry. That is with a six week veg period, 1000 watt HPS per 4 plants and the roots utilizing the whole bucket of soil. When harvested and inspected the roots are almost to the root bound stage. Sometimes I get more, sometimes a little less. I think this yeild is extremely good for a middle of the road production strain such as AK. A novice grower would get much less. Chronic you can expect higher yeilds, but with the sacrific of quality. Hope this helps.

Same with my Strawberry Cough TGT...I veg for about 4-5 wks, then flip them. I get about 6-7 zips a plant also. I usually let them drink a gallon of water every other day until about the 4-5th wk, then I feed them daily or as they need it. Some strains are different. Oh yeah, that's with no holes at the bottom also :headbange ..Getting ready to start another run with purple urkel..Gonna do it the same way, and see what kind of results I get..I Should be able to do pretty good, being that urkel requires a long veg period anyway...I'll post pics...

Drainholes provide a dual function to achieve a single purpose,to keep roots aerated. They provide a path for the moisture to remain mobile, stagnant water wont hold oxygen for long. Those that have successfully grown without drainholes are lucky, its not a good practice IMO.I dont know anything about hempy buckets, but I wouldn't put those drainholes up too high and use plenty of perlite lest you want a skeeter infested stagnant swamp at the bottom of your container lol.

One of my best grows was with 15 gallon rubbermaid tubs and no drain holes. Mixed up my own organic soil and was just given water and teas through out. 5000w grow and the plants were huge. I had read something by the Three Little Birds back then about no drainage and organic mix.

For me it was my only option because I was not on city water so I didn't have drainage water to spare.
