400W VS 1000W Temps

I currently have a 4'x5'x6' room with an air-cooled 400W MH. If I'm not using my vent fan my room only heats up to about 82-84 degrees or so (I do use the fan). I am wondering if putting a 1000W in there instead is going to create problems with heat at the tops of the plants? How much more heat does the 1000W throw out? I am a little bit worried about the lack of height available between my table and the light when the plants get a little larger.

I know more light is better, but I am wondering if 1000W might possibly be a bit much for my area?

Thanks,

Joe

your temps will average least mine did 10-20 degrees hotter on a 1k hps over the 400w hps and 400w mh i run now. of course this also depends on time of year i had temps hit 100 in 5x7x8 on the 1k hps. currently my temps run 83-85 on 400w hps 400w mh.

heres just a suggestion and what i placed over the enterance of my masterbedroom closet door.

i went to my local lowes hardware store got some 19/32 sheet of plywood and they make 2 free cuts so it was cut for free. i messured the inside of my door where the regular door buts up when closed. this plywood fits snug perfect i placed 2 small metal handels to remove the wood. and in bottom is 2 x 3inch black pvc 90 degree elbows for passive not forced fresh air intake. trust me when i say i can hold peice of paper in front of air intake if i let it go it gets sucked into the closet n/p.currently i' only usen half the closet 4ft deep 3 ft wide floor erea. oh yea lol i live in the mohave desert so sumemrs get very hot above 115 july-aug, i run my flower erea at night 6pm-6am i run veg erea 6am-12am midnight. ahh heck might as well include this also lmao i cool a air cool hood and cool tube on 1 modded stanely blower fan. i pull through a 4inch econoair carbon scrubber into a Y adaptor then off into each light out into another Y adaptor and into stanely up into attick lol !!!

see the stanely in the back ground he he http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=29341

MostHigh, it's kind of tight for space at the top of my room because I have a water pipe & meter that run a crazy ass route thru my room limiting space for hoods/tubes/hoses etc.

I'm not sure I want to try to run 2 lights in there.

Is it really worth upping to a 600W for the $$ cost?

Are we talking a 50% increase in yield??

MajPotHead, here is my 4" 170 cfm cooling/scrubber setup, I can't imagine a 600W would be an issue....but I don't think I have the space for 2 lights.

What do you think?

Two of my lamps are verticals, the design and properties of the CMH cause their heat to jump up away from the lamp where standard MH or HPS casts their heat 360° in all directions.

I could touch anywhere below the arc and my hand registers warm to the touch. Not at all hot. At or above it, plenty hot then. It's not shown in the pics, the tops of plants are within 8'' of the lamps, without cooling the grow, just exhausting heat...they're comfy at 77°F. Hmmm...and tonight's outside temps here are low 60s. The drop down nature of verticals, call me crazy, they make better use of available headroom and cast shit loads more light on upper bud sites than do horizontal lamps.

If ya already have a 1000 watter, fire it up and see what happens. If you're having to buy, 600 watt set ups are quite a bit less loot out of hand. I mention 600 watts for sake, I believe 1000's simply over power small grows canopies and actually are counterproductive to a top shelf quality yield for whatever it is being grown. That and most 1000 watters have lousy spectral distrubution peaks.
