400 Watt with Small Growbox Grow Tent

Hello gentlemen and gentleladies,

I am planing on purchasing the following equipment.

BudBox Small Grown Tent - 75cm by 75cm by 100cm height
Cool Tube with 400 Watt Dual Spectrum Bulb
Digital Ballast
365m3 Exhaust Fan with 2 Inch Carbon Filter

I plan on going down the SOG route and using a separate CFL powered PC case for two or three breeds of mothers. I estimate that I can have anything between 20-30 plants yielding between 3-5 grams dried each.

What are your thoughts? Do you think that a 400 watt bulb is too much considering that I have a powerful fan and a cool tube?

What will the ambient temperatures be ( ambient temperatures are the temperature of the room the grow box will sit in)?

If ambient temperature is around 65 to 70 you should be good as that fan should keep you in about 10 degrees above the ambient temperature.

Will you be air cooling the 400w HID?

I have 250w Cooltube with 325CFM Fan and a Carbon Filter,
Right now my room is 25.8C and my fan is running 100% and its 28.3C in the tent right now. (78F outside and 83F inside)

The passive intake is just as big as my exhaust, and it should be twice as big from what ive seen everywhere, so i could probably get it down a little bit, and the 400w HPS with Cooltube shouldnt generate alot more heat than the 250w

It never gets this warm in my room lol, its usually 20c ambient but what im saying is i think it should be fine with your equipment. If you are gonna go with 20-30 plant style and just flower them after a few days veg the 100CM in height is fine.

I just built a 120 CM growbox and i plan on vegging in autopots which are 30cm height and then Veg 3-4 weeks and i think my space should be fine :p


Hope that helps... looks like a solid plan, getting a little deeper/wider tent if you want more yield (which most people want after 1-2 runs from what ive seen) would be good but otherwise it should be fine for you. :)

What sort of yields are u getting? and what are the heights or ur plants? many thanks my friend.

I have only done two grows without mothers/clones so far and the first grow isnt worth mentioning a that was a learning grow to try different training methods and such.

My 2nd current grow is still in progress, i only have wet weights and i had two Swiss cheese from nirvana where one yielded 100g and the other 130g wet, then i had a Cola bottle which was 30g wet and i still have 3 really small plants, 1 big and 1 semi-big left so i think this harest will only be around 100-130g max. This is with 2 good genetic seeds and rest bagseeds so its not really a "good grow"

I vegged for 33 days orso (in very bad weather conditions, was VERY cold for half this grow, as low as 15-16 celsius on nights... They got around 20-30 cm in veg and stretched to around 30-40 cm (i dont have precise mesaures) but if you go with single cola clones 100 cm is not a problem in height :)

In regards to your original question, no, 400w is not too much for that space, as long as you've got the ventilation to handle it.

I'm using a 400w air cooled hood in my 2x2 tent, and it's only being cooled by a 6" duct booster fan. It also keeps the temp inside the tent only 2 degrees warmer than the ambient air! I don't have a carbon filter attached to it though.

The maker of the tent says not to use anything bigger than a 250 with it. Myself, I would mostly be worried about the fan noise. Chances are you will have to run it wide open, which could get pretty loud. That may no be an issue for you though. Will the fan and/or scrubber be in the tent or outside pulling hot air through it?

I think height is going to be your biggest concern.

-Figure 30 cm for your cool tube and mounting hardware (you don't want it touching your tent).

- Figure 20-30 cm (at least, depending on how cool you can keep it) between your glass and the top of your plants.

That only leaves you about 40-50 cm for your pots and plants.

Another issue that's often overlooked is the temperature of the room your tent is in. Unless you're able to able to dump your heat (exteacted air) into another room or duck in cool fresh air, your going to heat up the whole room significantly. If your room is already "room temp" (only very slightly less than happy plant temperature) you're asking for heat issues.
