4 x 1kw's or 6 x 600s?

Hi all,

I am planning a setup of which will go inside a 3m x 3m tent...

Due to the footprint I am wondering if it is best to put 4 x 1kw aircooled lights in it or 6 x 600W air cooled lights (forgetting about electricity costs at the moment)

During veg I would put 400W lamps in and during flower 1kw or 600s would go in....

I am also wondering if I can simply hang a carbon filter off the end light and pull the contents of the tent through the filter, through the lights then straight outside and was wondering what the best sized fan would be...a 6" would be to small (the shades have 6" spigots on) so manybe a 8 or a 10? The fan would go just outside the tent with about a 4m ducting run then push out through an outside wall.

What sized carbon filter would be good for the job? I of course want to get the smell right out....

I am trying do do it so I have 1 intake hole and one outake hole going through the wall.....if the lights had there own fresh air intake and outake and the filter had its own outake hole this should make them run cooler I asume? but I only want one intake hole and one outake hole...

I would use a fan controller and an intake fan so would like some advice on what size/type intake would be good.

I am trying to keep noise to an absolute minimum so acoustic ducting, silencers etc would need to be used

These are the shades...

I am in the UK

First off, thats some cheap hoods there!
I would still get high end ones, like the super sun 2 at about 200£ each.
About light coverage:
600W = 90cm x 90cm,or 3'x3'
1kW =120cm x 120cm,or 4'x4'

So optimally I would have 9 600W in there, 3 in 3 rows. That leaves you with 15cm on the sides

Have you considered boxing up your filters and pushing air trough them and then out, this way theres no light coming out and it lowers the noise to the outside considerably. And no need to hang heavy filters in the tent.

I don't like speed controllers, I prefer the 2 speed fans, have 3 of them and you can have some at low, some at high and you get good control over temps, but, it is all manual adjusting and costs more and you want just 1 hole in the wall. You will be looking at a big fan(and filter), unless your outside temps are real low, but every year theres the summer times...

Ok sounds good so 9 square meter footprint = 1 600 per metre

yes, 1 x 600W per square meter is about right. But if you can keep it cool, nobody is stopping you from having 3x3 1kW in there... the more the merrier :):):)
It would be PITA to keep it cool without AC

Air con would be great but theres no where to put a compresor..

What size out fan do you think I am dealing with here? And what size carbon filter?

If theres 9 x 600s in there they are going to take up pretty much all the space on the tent roof so im asuming I would have to either hang or stand a carbon filter inside the tent at one end (possibly stand it off the floor with blocks)

The lights have 6" spigots so I would possibly have to put a few reducers on them so I can go from 6" to 10" where it comes off the end light to the carbon filter (asuming its going to be a 10" filter) then a couple or reducers on each side of the fan itself taking it from the 10" fan back down to 6"?

9 x air cooled with glass in is also going to be very heavy on the roof of the tent

Thanks

Just read somewhere as a rule of thumb its 2 watts per cfm so 600 x 9 = 5400 x 0.5 = 2700 CFM

so looks like I would need a 12" box fan thats capable of 3250 cfm's bearing in mind there will be a carbon filter on the end of the last light....

Trouble is the outlet is 6" and the hoods are 6" so would basically be a huge flow restriction

Do you mean that the exhaust hole to the outside is 6"
If so theres no way you gonna cool 9 x 600W trough that.
Or if you have really cold air coming in it could work, but still...

If you use a big fan on one end and had two intakes on the other end you could make a manifold to bring fresh air over each hood in line. Youd have to turn your hoods sideways and hook them up to the manifold that way.
