36 hour dark period before bloom for 11 Wk Sativa?

Hi,

I currently have 3 Strains in one grow room.
One is Chiesel, the other Strawberry Cough and the last Jack Herer.
The first two should mature after 9 Weeks, but the JH takes 11.

My question is, if I should put the JHs in the dark for 24 or 36 hours before turning to 12/12 tonight? - I hope to align the time they finish by doing so.

I read some comments on this method, but most people just seem to speak out what they think and not what they´ve really done. :)

The question is, if this would destroy the quality of the yielded bud.
The other is, if it will substantially shorten flowering time of an already short flowering sativa.

Thanks for any insights on the method.

hey mate, i dunno how much help this will be but we grew up a white widow girl and did the 36 hrs before flipping to 12/12 she took about 8 weeks (we harvested early). i'm flowering the same girl currently (a clone of her) in my micro thread in my sig, didn't bother with the 36hrs of darkness this time, and she seems to have matured/developed even quicker than the original one, though this may be due to better care/nutes etc. i'll see what the time diff between harvests will be in about a month. but i'd say the 24-36hrs probably won't make a difference, when choosing between the two i mean, i'd probably go for 24hrs, that will most likely be enough. but i haven't done any real experiments with these methods so that is just my thinking/reasoning. all the best mate :D

yeah i've heard the same thing, sativa are found mostly in equatorial regions as landraces, and in these regions 12/12 is summer, then 13-14-15 off is winter. so i've seen a lot of people using 13off-11on and then 14off-10on, i think one guy's doing it on here somewhere right now and he's expecting it to flower for 20 weeks :S

i see the reasoning behind the idea:) but it will not work:comfort:

sometimes putting them in the dark for 24/36/48h before flicking to 12/12 does seem to encourage them to stretch qnd go into bud mode-othertimes it doesn't seem to make any difference. I know the theory -but that is my experience and i have been tinkering around with this for ages and never noticed it shortening the flowering time.

One recent accidental finding-a couple of runs ago the electricity went out and they had 24h dark in the 3rd week of 12/12-this really did seem to have an effect -i'm sure i noticed a difference so am experimenting with that one atm

try it-
good luck

thank you all for your quick replies.
Ill just go with Eddie then and dry the SC and the Chiesel in a box, whilst the JH matures. :(

Thanks for your help people, and enjoy your day!

Hey! I remember reading that a 36h dark period in the last two or there weeks of blom would produce socalled foxtails, any experience?
