Well the plant he had looked promising.

I just got off the phone with my buddy in Hawaii. His uncle grew Kauai electric and another cut in the 80's. The second cut went exclusively to FL. The locals there named it "Crippy".
And the first "OG Kush" reportedly came from Crippy bagseed in FL.

Long story short he holds that ancient cut! I will have to drum up something mad special for him to let it go!!

So I think he may hold "The Real OG Kush". But without a special nose there is no way to know for sure!! LOL!

I'm from S FL and in the 90s anything that was high grade was labeled as "crippy" or just the crip for short. The thing is that back then you never knew what you were getting looks and smell was what we went by. Then they started coming with something with hella crystals was told it was Afgani. Had a buddy that was working with Night Queen from Dutch Passion early 90s and folks were calling it crippy because it had to be kept in a jar produced well also. Wouldn't mind searching thru some of those DP Night queen was a cup winner way back when.

Aloha, not to say that a cut called crip is not out there if it did cross my path I wouldn't have known because almost everything better than regs was called crip, crypto, crippy. Pretty much what goes on with OG and Kush. South FL is a melting pot and genetics from all over where there. We used to get Jamaican regs that came from the Bahamas always had that Mexican brick stuff. A FL strain lost in time is Gainesville Green sativa. Heard all the older folks that raved about it but wouldn't know if it was right in front of me. The Real OG would know if he smelt a joint that was smoked in a car three days before he got in it. Damn he is good :)

HOLY SHIT!!!

HOLY SHIT!!!

4.5 weeks and stacking. I mean really stacking. Full on "Buds"
Resin on the outer margins of "bud" leaves.

So handsome!! The flowering portion is 3ft tall. Looks so impressive
in person.

18 plants like this in a 4x8 tray with 2000W. 4 wk veg and 8 wk flower with two full weeks of flush.

I know soil guys like to think they yield like this.

Take a clone today. And show me pics like this in soil indoors in 12wks. Not gonna happen.

Too bad I dont have pics of went I transplanted her, but after transplant she had about a week veg then flip.

This plant is not a heavy yielder by any means, this is what happens when I grow heavy yielding plants. LOL

I already got rid of 4 moldy colas on her you cant even tell I started taking her down she is thick.

Never grown hydroponically but I swear my SIPs can't be far in terms of growth rate.

What strain is that?

If you can kill it in soil, you will kill it in hydro. But skills being equal, you will never match hydro speed in soil, for technical reasons.

It's not a contest though. Someone else said earlier (and in a diff thread iirc) soil was just as fast as hydro, and I think that's why MB posted that. Most forms of hydro are simply faster. It just is.

I'm hydro. RDWC. I do it bc I think it's easier than soil. Both labor wise, and technically. I find it easier to nail the grow in hydro.

I have more respect for the people who kill it in soil, because imo, killing it in soil is much harder than hydro.

So rock on brother! I still run small soil plants in the hopes that one day, I will get good at it. For me...hydro is not only my preference bc of my health...but it's also a crutch bc learning how to kill this plant in soil takes a long time. The fact that I can pull so much weight in hydro, isn't really a reflection on my skills. It's almost automatic. I'm not even trying to do it, it just happens.

But don't care about the weight, I just grow for my own meds. If I could grow the same quality meds in soil as I do in hydro, and it it wasn't physically difficult...I would. Much respect for the soil guys. When I see amazing soil product, my mouth begins to water.

thats funny i feel exactly the opposite. imo, if you can make cookies you can grow killer organic buds in soil. they way i do it is so easy. just follow the recipe to mix the dirt then keep it wet. now it did take me 8 years to arrive where i am, but ive got it as simple as possible. links in sig, that soil mix is infallible. no cook time needed, will grow literally anything, with no deficiencies or fuss.

lol.

Your labels are really nice. I'm going to look for ones more like those. Mine sometimes fall through the little slot, yours are nice and thick.

When I went to Maui, at the medium elevations, I remember thinking, "Man, you could grow some killer meds here."

...and they do!!!

Maui is excellent as is is much dryer than Kauai where I was Mostly.
The Big Island was challenging as I was on the East, wet side.
Strain selection was important.

I will be doing some time lapse footage in the next few months. You will get a baseline for speed.

I am sure SIP can be fast. But you will be shocked how quick I produce Biomass. My setup produces Aero like growth. Which is around 7 million times faster than any media hydro or otherwise!! LOL

Nothing grows as fast as Aero. If we have issues and get a week behind we are totally over grown. Meaning we cannot delay the flip more than 3 days or so. I have not seen that problem with media. It is the media that slows growth. Not hydro vs soil. Media vs no media.

I will check that out.

It's almost creepy the timing of you pointing that out...I was just about to search a simple, no-fuss soil recipe...just so I can flower some simple soil stuff in the spare space.

I find it easier to max out the quality in hydro bc I know every variable, down to the decimal place or ppm. Soil gives you a buffer, which makes it easier for newbies...sometimes that buffer saves them from killing a crop.

But that buffer is also a mystery zone. To nail it, uou really have to get a feel for this plant in that medium. Hydro is so fast, you can see the effects of your changes in an hour, you are forced to figure it out very fast. Soil, you really have to be in tune with it imo. Many, many, many grows.

I think the hardest thing about hydro is the hardware. Unless you buy a pre-made system, it involves a little design/building and physical equipment. But if one isn't intimidated by that, nothing could be easier imo.

It takes all types. I would love to work on my soil game (I am). I've got my style of hydro down pretty good. So I can goof with soil now w/out risking anything.

There's another soil mix in my thread / signature
Clackamas Coot's original suggestion, based on the Cornell mix
Page 1 of the thread

If you like a little variety in life, lol
Things to think about

Same thing, just add water
I just wouldnt start a seed in it until it's aged a bit

Yeah took at look at that. Pretty close to what I am running. I think 30% castings will rock the house!!

If you have not tried a proper SIP, you simply do not know. It would be interesting for both of us to show growth rate. The only downside is my SIPs are so heavy they stay in the flower room, they never come out, and since I grow perpetual and not cycles, I do not have the luxury to veg after transplant, so it can be a hit and miss for me. However, when the plants are taking well after transplant, the growth rate is insane.

One of the reason i think SIP can't too far from hydro / aero is that you essentially never water the plants, every day, every hour of the day, the plants drink exactly what they want/need. There are no swings in ph ( I assume ) and always perfect soil moisture.

Maybe I ll document a few, but keep in mind, once I transplant, they are under 12/12 immediately, I try to do it in the morning as to give them an extra half day of veg. If someone had the space to veg them over 2 weeks I believe record yields could be achieved, at least for organic.
