I used to do the same. And although the lowers would fill in the explosion of flowers was not there. I don't know why exactly. But flowers form faster with aggressive defoliation. Its counter intuative I know.
If you go back and look at the elmers after just 5 days post #310. I cannot get those results unless I hit them hard. But I do feel perfect Hydro allows me to do so.

Interesting, I guess I ll have to experiment more. As a beginner many years ago I tried defoliating a bit but at the time I dont think my plants were big enough and healthy enough to bounce back. Then I went through a phase where I thought defoliating was for beginners and that I needed all the fan leaves to harvest light! Now I am at a happy medium, a little bit of both.

I cant wait to see what that round will yield in my friend's garden, but I am listening ,... I guess with more time we could do a lot more agressive defoliation and see what happens.

My concern is that everytime I go to do it even if before week 3 is that there is so much resin on the smaller fan leaves I have a hard time bringing myself to pluck them!

You would not believe how much resin we get all over even at day 21.
Top three stay only. So yes some sugar comes off. But they will repay you by stacking flowers faster than you thought possible.

The top three leaves are the secret.

Leave them and the plant will continue like nothing happened.

Take them away in veg and that shoot stops growing.

Learn when and what to take off. And you will have better quality, bigger flowers. We grow Buds not leaves!! LOL haha!

But these things are done by growers who have very healthy plants. This is not a beginners sport. Plants need to be perfect. Or they can shock and stunt. And then you will say defoliation didn't work...

Got 3hrs of defol on Monday ugh. Where did I leave that agent orange...

Wow that's a nice looking stud you got there! Copper Chem? I think I have a pack of those in the fridge from a while back, before they were called that. It's Chem4 x stardawg right? Very interested in how those do.

Yes. And stardawg is chem4 x chemD. So there are D leaners, 4 leaners and balanced.

This guy is pretty well rounded. I am staying away from the baby poop D type phenos. The other male is a little more Chem4 leaning yay!
Pure acetone stem rub. He may be worth breeding too.
Just flipped him also. So have a fair few males to pick through.

So far this looks to be an epic Chem. Not too much stretch even in the males. So definitely workable indoors.

The importance of Healthy Clones

The importance of Healthy Clones

Can't emphasize enough. Clones are super important. Healthy mothers make healthy clones that make healthy plants!!

My buddy out in Hawaii wanted a Tangie cut. I hunted this one down for him. When you take cuts the whole rooms reeks of Tangie. Such a tery Cut my god!!
He owns the only medical grow on Kauai, HI. He is super well connected. Getting a legit Jungle Boys Purple Punch in return.

No he is not a IC user so chill out Mods! LOL.

This is what my clones look like.

I dip the Rockwool block into 100% strength nute solution.
Who ever came up with the idea clones and seedlings need less nutes?
Because that is such a bunch of shit! FEED YOUR CLONES!

Obi Wan OG (Alien Rift x Ghost OG)

Ghost OG Pheno. Will be a super potent but a lower yielder.

Alien Rift Pheno. Should pack on weight but I expect less potency.

And this is what I am looking for. I really don't care if it's Male or Female. Perfectly balanced Pheno.

Here's some budshots to keep you guys interested!! I personally prefer seedlings. Die hard pheno hunter. I like seeing the parents traits in the offspring. Different balances of genes. That is just magical to me.

Elmers @ 4wks. Performing insane in my Freerooters! Looks like it will yield great too. Hands down the frostiest cut I have seen in Decades!

Had to move the whole show 6weeks ago. So finally getting back to full potential!

I actually spend more time in the veg room selecting and pheno hunting. But the flower rooms are so magical right now.

Keep up the good work bro...How do you like the Gelato? Is yours the PCG/Harborside cut?

I had the Gelato recently and liked it a lot. Same cut (#33) It reminded me of cookies, very happy, upbeat, motivated feeling. Not stoney...not a "high" feeling...it just made me feel really good.

Fwiw, I'm not a big cookies fan. When other patients want to trade for cookies I never say no...but I don't grow it. It's nice...just not my favorite. But the Gelato I liked immediately. I'm about the effect, and the effect only. I think it's great when meds have a nice smell, taste, bag appeal etc. But it could taste like sweaty camel c**k for all I care. I'm about the effects on my health problems. If it works, it works.

But the Gelato...you notice the taste immediately. It's nice. Overall, it's very similar to cookies, but better imo.

Side note #1: Subbed!

Side note #2: @Mushroombrew, feel free to use "Sweaty Camel C**k" as a monicker in your future breedings lol.

**Edit**

If this is what you mean by Flora caps, I use them and love 'em. I don't think I'll go back to anything else. Almost impossible to clog, keeps the nutes well mixed and as you noted...faster veg. With the Octa-bubblers regulated to 20 gph, and feeding for 15 minutes, every 3 hours it turns over all the solution.

Hey mushroombrew! Have you ever done defoliation with plants that weren't being grown in hydro (I run soil and have been intrigued by defoliation)? Did it work as well as it seems to be working for you now? Also, all your plants look amazing, keep doing what you do

Defoliation in soil works, but you have to know the plant because timing is crucial. If it's your first time defoliating a soil plant, be prepared to fail. Not fail hard, but it takes a few times to nail the timing. If you do it too early, you can lose weight. Too late, and you inhibit growth. There is a window of opportunity for many plants, but you have to learn to recognize it. Know what I mean? It's unlikely you will nail it your first time.

So if you want to learn how to do it, and you have more than one plant, I would decide how many you want to gamble with, and then defoliate them at different times. Take photos/notes if you can. It makes the timing easier to recognize next time.

I grow in a canopy style scrog, hydro and co2. Similar to Mushroombrew's. Lots of stalks, not a lot of space. It's basically a small "field" of cannabis. So defoliating leafy strains can help. If you aren't growing that style, I would be less aggressive with it bc soil doesn't respond as quickly. Plus no additional co2...I just want you to recognize that these are two different worlds. Hydro/co2 provides luxuries that you don't have in soil.

Mushroombrew is pretty much the same, so his setup is very fast. Defoliating for him is not a huge setback. The plants recover pfff... almost immediately. You can pull up a chair and watch them grow...it's that fast. I see it every day and it still blows my mind.

So in soil, I would be far less aggressive with it. You don't have the luxury of speed that he does. Also if it's not a scrog, it's not as crucial. Scrog has little space.

Bottom line, what he is doing, and his results, aren't going to be the same in soil with no co2 supplement. We learn by trying...so I'm not trying to discourage you. I just want you to know how different this style of grow is from soil.

You know I never thought about the lack of clogging!! That alone makes me want to try them. But i need 100's. So will wait to pull the trigger!!
