3 Gallon Smarties and Watering?

If a peat rootball overly dries and isn't sufficiently soaked/flushed to rehydrate, the centre mass can stay dry, usually requiring frequent watering.

I have done such stupidity and found out by slicing up the rootball.

Observing rootballs after harvest is good practice. I like your curiousity. It's key to continuous learning, in growing and life.

3 gallon smarties for the indoor win! I water em 1 quart at a time with a lil water can. 3 quarts total, going around the tent one pot at a time. Let em soak up runoff, then another quart & turkey baster the runoff out of the cheapo-depot plastic saucers. Usually get around 10% runoff & my roots stay moist but not too moist. I soak every 3-4 days with 1-2 days in between of only giving a quart per smartpot to keep the top of the soil from going crusty & hydrophobic.

If you are in a mostly peat mix, consider using a wetting agent for the first few waters & again every once in a while. I like earth juice assist, but have also used cocowet. Both are cheap.

All bad happens (especially in flower) when peat dries... Your media/roots can handle a lil bit of salt when its moist, but as soon as it dries out, that's when the salts wreaks havoc on the plant.. leaves just shrivel up and die.. horrible deficiencies show up, all that...
