3 600W's or 2 1000W's

i'd say get the 2 1000s, why, because thats what i have, make or buy some cool tubes and you'll be good to go if you want you can check out my grow its in my sig, it's finally done so you'll see the results, keep in mind though that i'm runnin co2 so my plants enjoyed the 90-95 degrees that the lights heated my room up to, oh yeah and get the solarmax bulbs if you want to make a homemade cool tube because they are a little thinner than hortilux plus a bit more lumens oh and anybody can pm me if you have any questions about my setup i'd be glad to help

I've had this fight with my buddy at the hydro store. My 1000watt Solarmax bulb puts out 147,000 lumens and 600's put out something like 90,000. This makes 600's more EFFECIANT (sp?) as far as a watts/lumens ratio is concerned but with my aircooled hoods I can keep my 1000's about 11inches away from the top of my canopy no problem. No way will 3 600's give you more useable light, better coverage mabe, but more watts is more lumens and more lumens is more pot....and I like pot.

realhigh - Have you had a chance to use the Gavita 400s you bought yet?.

Had a look at their site after reading your post, they're very much commercial horticultural bulbs though huh?. Especially with the extra tap on the coil for running higher wattage bulbs.

Can you give me a 'ballpark' figure on the cost of a 400 please?, I couldn't see anything on the pricing & I never went' alookin. Not that I want one, just interested for future reference ya know?.

ATB, Esskie.

I have got a 1000 and its great for what im doing, but when I move up a notch and go a little bigger, I will use a few 600's, as I have read that not only do they have the best intensity in relation to safe distance, but they are the most economicl of the HPS wattages to run when you take all into account. I have found some nice budget 600's for 85 quid ready to plug n play, lolI was thining of these for the full Aquafarm set up when I get it going with 8 on the controller. Maybe 2 600's for this on a Mover (I am planning on a light mover very soon for my flower room anyway as I know it would let me drop that 1KwHPS a bit closer.
Esskie, Im gonna get a super spreader for it tomoz, lol, I gotta get the dearer one though to fit the thou. I been thinking of getting a new hood too, as this is an old one, I biought the light second hand, and it has an old maxi-bright hood, similar to those dutch shiny's u got Esskie. Anyway, I was thinking of Either an adjusta wing, of a pro-ultralite octagonal reflector. anyone use these, any good??

Used to have a single Pro-Ultra (400w) and while it was excellent for focusing light on a spot, such as a Water/AquaFarm for example it would be the biz! but if you need any decent sort of spread anymore than 3-4ft square? then I wouldn't go for the Pro-Ultra.
Btw, about the bigger super spreader, you goin for the 1000w soon dude?

I suppose it really depends on each growers situation. I had the same dilema not long back, I went with 3 x 600's because my situation didnt allow for 1000 watters, I couldnt accomadate for the height they would be set at.

3 x 600's put out roughly the same heat, althou lower wattage with 3 x 600's, your still trying to cool a extra bulb. Also I dont think with 600's you are gaining a large amount of coverage over 2 x 1000's. The footprint of a light will be increased/decreased depending on what reflector your using and what height your lights are set. But being able to get 600's generally closer than 1000's, your geneal coverage with the 600's would be better but it still wont i be near the intensity of 1000's.

Do you need the intensity a 1000 gives you?!? I mean if you growing say a scrog, or maybe a high density sog, I dont think you really need that intensity. But if you plan to grow some fuckin trees- Use those 1000's, they are a proper bit of kit mate.

Sorry for the ramble mate

Hiya Esskie, I alredy have the 1000watter in the flower room, have done for about 4 months or so now. Gottit, yup u guessed it, 2nd hand from the growshop(new bulb though, im not a fuckin idiot like some1 else buying a used light there the other day, wouldnt give an extra 20 quid fro a brand new bulb instead of the used one, lol)
Its been going great in ma flower room, really great penetration, if I prune well enuff, I get nice buds on the lowers too, just pocorn right in the middle bottom, but iv started trimming that fucker right out anyway, not worth the extra effort in trimming if u askl me. I mean with the super spreader, Ive got to get the bigger size for my thou. Although saying that, Ive got some good sheet, so I could prolly bend my own, and drill the holes my self, but getyting the right angle and holes would be difficult i bet.

Hey Guv, Ilove my thou m8, lol, and c'mon u whites, go on.
and if we see a man u fan its, ur going ome in a fuckin ambulance, hehehe, it is i town anyway, im not 1 for the matches cos u cant smoke a bifter(cant fecking get 1 in more like, its like a nazi check-point trying to get in2 a match, lol)

Alright harry - Dont get me starting on Man Utd mate, Im down south so I dont get to see the lads as often as Id like-But we do have plenty of United fans down here, Just asking to be fuckin opened up!! They are abit tight at the footie matches these days- 99% of people just go to watch, its tht 1% who have tear-ups that fuck it for the 99% of true supporters.

Those pro-ultralite reflectors are alright-They would be qulaity if the bulbs were vertically screwed in- One of the best open hoods IMO.

Sorry to jump on your thread botanygreen!!!!

Guvnor, no problem buddy

Just to let everyone know, I bought the 2 1000's. I kind of changed my plan for the room I was going to build. Instead I will build two rooms. One room will fit a 1000W SSI MH with a Agrosun bulb for veg attached to a cool sun hood. The next adjacent room will house a 1000W SSI HPS with a hortilux for flowering attached to a cool sun hood. I plan on running 4" duct from the attic to the MH hood then through a wall to the HPS hood and out to the attic with a fan attached on the outgoing end to pull the air. As most people know the cool sun reflctor comes with a glass shield that will keep the heat in and the the heat will be allowed to escape with all the air that is flowing through it, so I will be able to get as close as the 600's would w/o the cool sun.

THE NEW PLAN:
I have a room full of 600 HPS's and plan on making that room a strickly flowering room harvesting about half every month. Pretty much what I do now I just have to use it in the beginning for veg for alittle while.

The room with the MH I plan on having about two mothers that will supply the flowering room. And also use it to root clones momentarily and start any new seed that I want to try. That is where the other room comes in hand. I will use the 1000W HPS to flower the new strain so that I can grow it bigger and keep it detached from the commercial sog room. The rooms will be directly next to each other with a wall that goes all the way up so the duct between the lights will not have to be far.

I FIRST THOUGHT:
that I could get 3 1000's and use the room as another sog. But I was going to get three light movers on a rail of the same brand and attach the lights with the ducting going from each light with a little extra and have all the lights moving at the same time back and forth all day until the lights go off, but I just see catastrophe happining.

I thank everyone for posting, I was really changed b/c I really was just going to get some more 600's. Now I will have no veg time other than keeping the mothers going. I will be taking rooted cuttings straight to the sog flowering room. I hope it works out b/c now my electric usage will go towards flowering which is what pays the electric bill.

Any suggestions just list them.
