26"x26" 220w HPS Vertical micro grow

haha heat mat pride!

All4, I'm not really sure if it made much difference to be honest. I haven't had a thermometer in the cab for a few weeks as it was needed for another project, so I don't have numbers. But it's been cold. And although I do keep the area heated as much as possible, I can't ALL the time. If nothing else the heat mat restricts airflow from the intake holes in the floor. Something I thought of last night though is to open up some ventilation between the utility side so that the warm, exhaust air gets sucked back in to the grow side.

I'm getting their next watering ready right now, mixing up and pH'ing nutes... gonna use some Beastie Bloomz starting now and probably for another 3 or 4 waterings (2 weeks or so) unless they don't seem to be liking it.

I'll get pics tomorrow night after they've had time to drink up, and I do some defoliation (haha funny word... sounds bad!)

Thanks Mega!
:tiphat:
A'right here are some pics from this evening, they smell awesome and I really got to see just how many bud sites there are between pinching off fan leaves last night and tonight. Crazy how much I took off, but now they look happier and less cramped haha.

As usual, White Widow's (x2) then the Blue Cheese in the pics...

I thought I'd better stop back and see how things were going JDI, looks pretty good to me. Glad I didn't miss the happy ending.

Always good to have you stop by Warped! You didn't miss too much, still a few weeks before anything major happens ;-)

Thanks All4 and SpEd! I was looking through some of the older pics (Even from the first thread in the micro section before I even learned about vertical growing!) and I'm pleased with how things have progressed. Back in October I was bummin' because the plants weren't looking too happy, but they've turned out quite nice IMO. Every time I check on them and see the buds getting bigger.... I gotta say, growing is possibly the most fun and rewarding hobby. I'm glad I was introduced to vertical growing, too! Thanks for the support and advice, it sucks not being able to share this hobby with people other than online, but I'm truly grateful for all of you, it makes growing more fun to share it with others!

The last few days have been frigid here, and temps in the cabinet are ranging from 49-63*, with the exhaust fan on low, a heat mat plugged in and somewhat blocking/restricting the intake holes, and trying to keep the area heated whenever possible. I see some strange looking growth on the Blue Cheese that almost look like seed pods, I dunno if it's possible that it hermied on one spot or what, who knows I guess? Oh well, we'll find out soon enough if it's what it appears to be or not.

Other than knowing that they're probably chilly, and maybe a bit stressed, they look great! haha.

The shorter white widow already looks like it's gonna have some LONG, bulky buds.... and they're still another 4 weeks or so away from being done!

Pics are usual order: White Widow, White Widow, then Blue Cheese (with questionable seed?)

They look great from here! My girls are about done. They have dropped all their fan leaves so any day now. Keep it up.

Thanks scallywag! I just checked out the pics in your gallery, looks like some tasty nugs right around the corner for you! I love the purple girl too!

Hey man, looking good in there! Do you think there could have been some pollen floating about from that male you pulled? Maybe that pollinated the Blue Cheese. Some nice buds forming already.

Yeah that's actually a VERYY good possibility, since the suspect seeds are only on the very side of the plant where it would have been up against whatever plant was next to it.... SWEET! I had thought about keeping the Purple Bud a little longer to get pollen but worried that it might pollinate all of the plants all over if it just stayed in there... So that makes sense! haha

That would be interesting, blue cheese x purple bud...

About that Purple Bud... A cutting had been taken early on and it's showing no signs of being male, so the power outage and cold temps must have stressed it to hermie

They've all got seeds it looks like! Oh well, it'll be cool to see what comes from them, I'm more surprised than anything haha.
I'm curious, would it be better to pinch/cut off any smaller branches growing out the BACK of the screen (and therefore out of the direct light and probably just wasting energy?), or just leave them be?

Very cool little rig JustDoIt! I love vertical rigs, their ability to yeild out of tight spaces just boggles the mind. Your setup actually reminds me a lot of another one. Yours is almost an exact, if miniature, replica of my buddy RipVanWeed's 1000w vert grow:

He even trained his plants into vertical screens just like you did:

I'm curious, would it be better to pinch/cut off any smaller branches growing out the BACK of the screen (and therefore out of the direct light and probably just wasting energy?), or just leave them be?

As far as rear foliage goes, try to do your best to push them back out through the front of the screen. Supercropping could help you make the branches that need to be moved compliant enough without breaking/kinking them.

I wouldn't consider those branches a waste of energy because of how massive your stems look. That is indicative of a good root system, the plant should be able to support good bud on any foliage that reaches the light. Its your responsibility as the gardener to get the foliage where it needs to be. Supercrop them, tie them around the outside, poke them back through the screen, do whatever you can to get them into the light.

However even with all of those techniques it may be simply impossible to get all of your foliage into the light. In that case I would condone cutting it off because it is a waste of energy. Only do that if there is just no way to train the foliage towards the light.

Its clear you are growing out of soil, but after skimming the thread I didn't really see much mention of what your nutrient scheme is. Are you running organics or just pouring salt nutes into your dirt?

Good luck with it mate!

Hey LadyLargely! Thanks for stopping by! I'll have to check out RVW's thread, it looks similar indeed! Up until I started these plants (in another thread) I hadn't ever read much or thought about trying vertical.... but thank god someone here suggested I do, now I don't think I'll go back!

I think I'll wind up cutting the back growths off... The branches I'm questioning are VERY small but long, and the fronts are pretty crowded as is... Any that I can swing around to the sides I'll leave though, there's a little free room off to the sides.

I'm growing in a mix of Ocean Forest and Light Warrior and using Fox Farm Grow Big, Big Bloom, Tiger Bloom, Beastie Blooms, and Cal-Mag... not all at once, but those are the nutes I've been using, mixed in distilled water pH'd between 6.3-6.5

Sup everyone?
Thought I'd stop by and note that the girls are looking good and smelling even better! The shorter of the two white widows is really appearing to be a chunky girl... which is fine with me! And they're all really starting to get covered in trichomes....
I don't have any pictures from tonight, and I'm taking a 2 week vacation from the internet starting.... in about half an hour!
So what does this mean? Well, I won't be back on icmag until Feb 9th...

8 weeks from the time I flipped 'em to 12/12 will be Feb 8th...
get what I'm getting at? Next pics the plants should be getting close to ready to chop! :dance013:

I'm thinking that what I'll do is, and of course this is subject to their condition when the time comes, take a few buds from each plant a little on the early side at week 8, the majority around week 9, and maybe let a few keep going till week 10. Each plant is different and while the listed flowering times say 8-10 weeks iirc, I'll be watching the trichomes and want to get the bulk of them before they start turning amber. I'm looking for a little more racy, heady high rather than a heavier stone, but we'll see, either way I know they're gonna be great buds!

Anyway, time's a tickin' and I've still got a few things to take care of before my internet diet begins, but I wanted to let people know I haven't been busted or forgot about the thread, I'm just taking a much needed "information diet" (as well as a weed diet... just vaping the last of my stash and not gonna buy any more.... I'm a few weeks away from freedom from the black market! woohoo!)

See ya in a couple weeks
