250cfm inline fan, $32

My question is, why do I never see anyone using it though?

www.HomeDepot.com
SKU# 100396559

Just put that SKU number into the search bar, and the inline filter will pop up. I'm just wondering why no one uses this, and instead decides to go with modding a stanley fan. This just seems so much easier, right?

There is even an 8" 500cfm inline fan, and a 12" 800cfm fan, both for under $46.00.

8" 500CFM SKU#: 100396544
12" 800cfm SKU#: 100396529

Is there any reason I shouldn't go with one of these rather then the mroe expensive stanley blower that I'd have to modify?

Also, side question, what is the suggested cfm for a 240 cubic foot room?

yea bro these fan dont work good at all through ducting i would suggest not getting it at all....

An fan that would work great that i use my self and is supposed to move like 2000cfm on high is the stanley blower walmart has it for Like 39.99 thats a steal i have pics of it in my gallery

unless i am mistaken, the goal is to exchange all of the air in the room each minute. thus, a 240cf room needs a fan capable of exchanging 240cfm.

I did use the 250cfm inline fan from HD as a SUPPLY fan for my grow. These types of inline fan are fine for supplying a grow through ducting without any resistance to the air flow.

Inline fans of this type will NOT work for exhausting air thru a carbon scrubber. They do not have the torque to move air against any resistance whatsoever. All they are made for is moving air thru short runs of ducting...like a bathroom exhaust system. This type of inline fan cannot be used with reducers either without severe loss of flow. If you put a 6" to 4 " reducer in line with one of these fans, you will immediately hear it slow down. Why? ....because it doesnt have the torque to be able to overcome the resistance the reducer offers.

That is why the Stanley (a squirrel cage type) and Vortex(a high torque centrifugal, in line type) are used with scrubbers. They have the power(torque) to suck/blow through the resistance of carbon scrubbers. They are also much louder because they are much more powerful. For some of us noise is something we have to think about.

How many times you need to exchange the air in a space is kinda subjective. It depends on how stinky your plants are and how much heat you need to exhaust to keep temps in line. I was lucky mine didnt stink too bad and I didn't have to worry about temps. I scrubbed the air I exhausted anyway though.

I am going to use a HydroHut "mini" for my next grow. I'll be using a Dayton 465(This blower will still do 125cfm wiuth a considerable load on it) with my carbon scrubber. 70ft3 foot hydro hut is small enough I don't need a Stanley. I wish the hydro hut mini had a 6" exhaust port. I'll have to use a 6x4 reducer but the 465 will still handle things OK IMO. I'll still get 2plus exchanges per minute.

With stinkey plants I'd want 3 changes of air/minute

Hope this helps

I've only seen these inline fans work successfully as an "ASSIST" fan. An intermediary fan that helps reduce natural resistance caused in ducting. Not very useful as an exhaust fan by itself, for reasons described above..........................RD

Dont waste your money. For the cost of a few of those you can buy a real inline centrifugal fan and move a lot more air.

They are fine for micro grows, 250w or less. They suck better than they blow, but dont count on them, use them supplementally
