250 vs 1000 watt

All other things being equal, take the single 1000 watt bulb. Plants respond better to a centralized light source (i.e. the sun). Also, a 1000 watt HPS produces higher levels of UVA? UVB? that also makes a difference in the final cannabinoid content.

Cheers!

P.S. I forgot to mention the greater total lumens and parlux values with the single 1000 watter.

I've read that more lights are better because they more evenly distribute the same amount of light over the entire canopy than one central light. I would imagine that lower wattage lights could be placed closer to the plants than a single 1000 watt bulb as well.

Based on your room, and since it seems like you have the money to buy 4 ballasts and bulbs, screw the 250's and get two 1000 watters. Or if power is a concern, get two 600's or three 400's. Then you will have the bomb grow room then.

I would personally recommend 600s, as they are by a significant margin the most efficient. You will also retain the advantages of multiple point light sources (multiple sources of light in the room). 1000 watt lights also produce prodigious amounts of heat, and dissipation can therefore become a problem unless one has a very dedicated active cooling system, without such a thing you would need to place the light very far away, which is not as useful as one that can be put closer. Like greenisgold said, it seems you have the money for good fixtures, I would advise 2 - 3 600 watt lights. This would also not run over your juice limit, which seems to be around 1000 watts. Also, light penetration on the 250 watt HPS lights is insufficient to grow really superb cannabis, and your lower branches / bud sites will suffer as a result. Best of luck!!

I would go with a dual 600 watt. I would go with 2 reflectors. You may want to air cool them in your space. You only have 252 square feet. My six inch inline fan 440cfm cools my 1000 watt light and my 800 square foot room very well. Also you may need to remove hot air from your space with another fan.

I have great luck with the "Krusty naked bulb" method and would recommend the four bare bulbs hanging vertically between the plants over one 1k bulb in a reflector above the plants.

It all depends on which method you want to follow. If its just the one bulb, at least put it on a mover.

im sitting here thinking what would be better 4-250watt bulbs or 1-1000watt?the flower room is 6x6x7

Well neither will cut the mustard for that area - 1000W in that space is only 27 watts per square foot, and unless you're growing an ultra low-light indica, you're gonna end up with stretched airy plants.

4 x 400W would make a good intensive scrog, and 4 x 600W would be great (with the right cooling).

So it's time to either reduce your grow area, and maybe put 2 x 600W in a 6ft by 3.5ft space, or up the wattage, but either way, that's how to do it, and not what you've proposed.

This is wrong -

600W bulbs put out 90k lumens = 150 lumens per Watt

1000W bulbs put out 140k lumens = 140 lumens per Watt

400W bulbs put out 55k lumens = 136 lumens per Watt,

So how is this a "significant margin"?

1000W is 1000W and the heat will be very similar.

I would advise 2 - 3 600 watt lights. This would also not run over your juice limit, which seems to be around 1000 watts.

1800W is almost double 1000W.

Also, light penetration on the 250 watt HPS lights is insufficient to grow really superb cannabis, and your lower branches / bud sites will suffer as a result.

This's also wrong - if you're a good gardener, you can easily prune off the lower branches and grow some superb quality bud with 250W HPS lights - I know because I've done it, and I've also grown with every other size of bulb too, so I do have a good baseline to comment from.

an extra 10 lumens per watt is a significant margin when you're dealing with that many watts in my opinion. at the rates your setting, that would mean he would get 180,000 lumens @ 1200 watts or 140,000 lumens @ 1000 watts. 40,000 lumens is a pretty decent amount for only an extra 200w

woo guys everything is in the application 4 600's can cover quite a bit of space...
or u could shove them all into a tinyass room....

i have 600's a 400 and a 1k i hate the 1k... sooo much heat... retarded.
i use it -on the bluemoon- and usualy only for a week or 1.5 when im conserving power and run a single light.
600's are so easy to get very close to the plants with...
a 400 and a 600 side-by-side seam to have a huge differance to MY naked eye..
and if your soging provides awsome penetration.

although i did use my 1k for my first couple grows. its -possibly the only way- to get supergood penetration on big trees. although as mentioned requires super-retarded cooling abilities aswell/ supermassive airflow...

hmm... 250vs 1k...?? go with the 250's but it seams like we all like the 600....
