Howdy b00m. That would be so cool if you made one too, haha! I hope they have my model there. If you use a more regular style of carbon filter (or none) you will have a lot more headroom than I do.

Interesting plant. It sounds auto to me.

That last pic is the first one that sprouted in the earlier pic. It's kind of bent over at the tip but otherwise happy. :)

Some bonus pics

Now. Here is my idea for a compact professional looking light trap. I've got some angled metal 12x12x1.5mm thick. This will be the main louvers. I have a shorter piece which is 12x12x3mm thick. This will be used for the spacer pieces. Pic says it all really. Just glue the bits together.

It's gonna take me a while to make and test this as I have to cut the metal elsewhere, but it should work right? I'd paint it flat black of course. I'm going to experiment with the spacer sizes and all that. The bigger the gaps the more airflow and I got the thinnest I could find for the louvers. What do you guys think? Anyone care to try this as it may be a while before I get it poppin'. :joint:

It gets better :)

It gets better :)

Let there be Hash!

Fan is an el cheapo 80mm .22 amp and is almost silent as is, it's absolutely silent when the top is on. I want to get a very powerful 80mm though. Lights are 2 x 28w 3000k, and 1 x 23w 6400k or whatever "daylight" is. This is the flowering lights, depending on temps.

Here is how I've put power in the back and made a top hinged door which will have a magnet to keep it open. I want to put a black plastic/duct tape flap around the door and hopefully the negative pressure will keep it sucked shut. I figure if the fans failed, the door will pop ajar a little bit. I like it like that if it all works. I suspect I may have to construct something different. I thought of a panda plastic flap with velcro too. I'd have to get the panda from the hydro store though.

I have flat white interior enamel to brush on. It's oil based. I was going to sand the plastic and paint 2 or 3 coats. The plastic is a lot stiffer than the rubbermaid I tried painting for the filter of the cupboard. Do you think I'll be okay? Or would it be worth my while to get some kind of primer?

I hope it's not too confusing having two threads/grows in one. Sorry about that but I don't think it's a good idea to start another thread. :nanana:

holy shit scrub, there's no holding you back is there. Now you got the pll cupboard going, the old tent, and what's this sweet looking rubbish bin conversion i see? Nice work! You've got the creative energy flowing right through you man and what better hobby is there to express that? Neat looking light trap man. I've always thought however that carbon filters are the light trap and the smell trap - are you not planning on any smell from your rubbish bin? Keep up the great work my friend!

Howdy D.I.! Thanks for the good vibes. The light trap is for the intake. I tried some aquarium foam and that will work fine, but I'd still like to make the light trap to see if it works.

The carbon filter is my usual fixation of having as much surface area as possible and a smooth flow. It's just like the filter for the cupboard, and tent.

There will be a screen mesh on the level of the green line, taking up the whole "floorspace" of the top of the main cab. Then above that line is probably 3/4 of an inch activated carbon. Then the fan is in the airspace at the top sucking through the carbon. All the heat should go straight up and out.

I'll have reflectors on the CFLs because the metal mesh is not real reflective.

ok that all makes sense now, thanks. Excellent idea for the intake and id be interested to know if it creates less resistance than the foam. Nice carbon filter design. what would we do if god hadnt given us smell adsorbing carbon, oh wait, and weed too! haha.

Hehe I know! I'm so glad I stumbled upon a plentiful local supply of it and it's the good shit, really fine granules.

The interesting thing about the Aero fan I'm using is the out vent on it is really small so it's easy to follow the dummy's guide to intakes. It's about 55mm x 55mm (30.25 sq cm). And the intake hole I've cut is 150mm x 70mm (105 sq cm). So my intake:exhaust ratio is nearly 3.5:1. :yoinks: So I can hopefully afford to lose some via whatever light blocking technique I run with. :)

Ups and downs

Ups and downs

The light trap for the Hashcan gets underway - I think it's gonna work!! I wanted to take it to someone with a proper cutting device but it was too far away so I hacksawed them. Was a lot of cuts and then I had to bevel every edge so they sit straight. Next I will glue them, then spraypaint them matt black right inside the crevices. Maybe use the leftover angle to make a neat edging but :yoinks: let's not get carried away! If I've done my sums right, I will still have more than double intake after allowing for the gaps in the trap.

New light - 24w pll, with external ballast it would seem. It's an aquarium light and has a reflector and I noticed it has ridges to accept a glass heat shield. I could probably cut holes and ventilate it. Would be good for a clone room or something. The blank bits on either end are mostly empty space and the end caps are removeable so I can cut it down no problem methinks. Still gotta have a decent look at it.

The seedlings are not looking great. The curly one just never straightened up, like it's owner, and carked it. I came home at lunch today and one had fallen over so I staked it but it's not looking good. Another one was leaning way over when I got home so I staked it. I'm going to stake the others loosely just in case but the basic problem is that the coco is too wet. The grand master sensei ninja set me straight on that so now I know. Unfortunately I have the AKs planted already with the old method so we'll see what happens.

Happy weekend :abduct:

I think it is too. Very slick. Props for this one. You are making me reconsider an impending purchase of three darkroom louvers given what promises to be an exceptionally professional finished look to your DIY louver. +Rep :)

Thanks all. :D I'll make one for the cupboard too if it's all good. Fatigues, if you're lucky you can probably find black coloured angle. They had some at my store but only in the larger sizes. That would simplify it even further.

When I hold it up to a bright light I obviously can't see the light bulb itself through the louvers, but there's enough glow that I can hold my finger behind the louvers and see the silhouette of my finger. That's with shiny aluminium so I'm hoping the matt black will clear that up.

Holy shit bro, i dont come on here for a day, this thread explodes and you have gone to town on the hashcan, great awesome work bro i can see a hashcan custom job sitting @ my place very soon. Inspiring designs my friend.
Peace

You know scrub that hashcan gives me an idea. Often see bins like that in really cheap shops over here. Just seen some nice vertical grows myself and i was thinking "small tube, one big pl-l..."

be interesting to see what one pl-l could get, in 0.89sqft vert, methinks.

Right on, Captain. I like the way you think! In one of the pll bin grows a dude used the clear plastic tubes for regular fluoros, if that makes sense. And kind of cooltubed them, sucking air up. Would help a lot with the heat of the 80 watters I reckon.

Boomster, thanks mayn. :) Had a headache all day from the glue so I haven't done anything else yet. Got a chance to have a squizz at your gallery though :D:yes: You should get a new thread started.

Here is an ooold pic I upped for another thread just now. I gotta keep you guys entertained somehow. It's an Aussie Blue vegging in my 2nd pc case. I used tent pegs to LST it. Worked awesome.

That plant spent weeks of it's life before the pic, under an 8w cfl, gave up like, 20 - 30 cuttings I think, then eventually ended up maybe 4 or 5ft tall and I got around a pound. :) I've already posted this pic but this was the plant:

Elevation Station pics one day soon.

dude that is an awesome light grill trap. Great new idea and i made up the name for it :nanana::):) Have you tested it yet or might u need the old can of black spray paint?

I think a small angle grinder would be a worthy investment with all the creativity you got coming out of your ears. Its what i used to help modify my pc and use the stripped out metal.
