My selections are less strict haha
As the name implies, Trifekta only select potency taste smell, in that order ;)
I grow 50-100 seeds runs, wish I could do 1000 no problem for me I can smoke 30 phenos a day and still tell you which is better
Real old time stoners and growers can filter out the best really quick, that's another thing you need to have in order to be a good breeder
I remember not long ago Ive grown 10 plants, dried them all, in one hour I sampled them all and picked 2 keepers
And indeed they were the best according to anyone else that tried them
So if you are good enough in what you do, no problem sampling even 1000 plant runs in good time, not years.
It's way more easy even because the filtering process is much more strict, no smell ? Bye
When you grow 20 plants you don't apply the same emotionless selections as you make do with what you have

Buying clones is a huge market. Lots of people prefer this than popping seeds. The cost of a quality clone is not much more than a pack of seeds. I know AJ sells his seeds for a lot. I've never bought a clone but many have a good variety to pick from.

I'll give you an example
If I have a killer potency plant, and killer tasting plant, I cross them for F1
Now I grow the seeds, basically looking for the best plant that represents both P1 to my liking. let's say I found only ones with high potency
Now I can now either keep growing the F1 seeds hoping that I get a good tasting pheno, or a better one with both traits
Or I can take the best potency plant I found and BX it to the P1 with the killer taste
Now that may sound kinda stupid as we already made that cross before (potency and taste) but now the potency plant is 1 generation old, and has the traits you want a bit more locked than anything else
That helps screening out the unwanted traits a bit more
So when the BX is done again, more potency phenos will appear, while taste plants get a bump aswell from the P1 that hold that trait, and hunt away again.
It's a question of time and chance, where can I find what I'm looking for the best and fastest ?
We can take a different approach to getting to the same goal, we can continue growing the F1 to find a better plant that hold the traits you want and save time growing another generation no matter BX or F2
That's where numbers come into effect
If I grow 1000 plants I have a high chance getting that 2 traits pheno in one cycle
While you can hunt 50-100 plant runs for 3 years before you get it
As in everything luck is a big factor ;)

Breeders that hold elite clones have the best breeding grounds and starting point
For them it's just a matter of Selfing until uniformity.
The real work begins when you need to outcross and improve.
It may take a lot of generations to get to a worthy pheno outta F1, I mean, a pheno that is good enough to stabilize (nothing less than elite type drug plants)
So even if you do hit a nice plant, probably not worth working on, not elite
People who make seeds MUST start from the elite clone, if not you are wasting your time.
People who make seeds should start with true breeding inbred lines to make the elite clone, inbred or crossed to another true breeding inbred line. If you can not do this basic breeding your at others mercy.
Breeders who make elite clones have the best starting point, I have no need of other breeders elite clones I can make them at will. I have no need for S1's I have no need to backcross, no need to feminize. I can pull two inbred lines and make an F1 that every plant will be almost identical. If you must use convoluted means to get where you want something is amiss.

IBL don't mean that it's true breeding
Just means someone is BX instead of Selfing or Outcrossing
You need to understand all of this just don't matter, where you go (mother, father, sister) won't reflect if your work will breed true or not, that all I'm trying to tell you

I’ve never had much of a problem finding potent stinky plants. It’s finding the top shelf quality in a plant that produces a lot quickly that’s almost impossible.

From what I’ve seen most real 8 week strains will have a 45 day example here and there.

I dunno then lol
For me top shelf is potency and taste, even smell is not that important
And running 50-100 plant runs for years now, it's not easy to come across potent plants...
Finish in 8 or finish in 9.. if it's fire who cares
The definition of top shelf changed a lot from 20 years ago when I was deep in the game
Prices was so steep everybody just tried to have the best bud, not the fastest or bulkiest
Today top shelf is fast finishing high yielding good smelling... Lol everything that's not important about boutique top shelf bud
To each his own ❤️

Yeah I think he is talking about staying within the genetics you hold when we talk about true breeding, which is not the case here

Everything you do within that family of plants will be considered IBL
Self, Sister with father, Boy with mother, sister with brother, etc...
That defines working within your strain genetics to create a true breed strain not just a true breed plant.

It’s simple. End user quality is potency, taste, smell, appearance. For a person growing and selling you’re looking for a plant is the best example of the 3 above characteristics while producing.

I’ve grown 1,000’s of plants. I’ve only kept 3 of the plants I’ve found through popping seeds longer than a few months. It literally has to be one of the best plants you’ve ever heard of for me to keep it.

I love growing…but gosh, almost wish we’d have just let the good stuff keep coming and quit trying to DIY things. Thai stick never again I guess. Most recent “similar” I can think of would be the GN Zamal ( @Gypsy Nirvana 🙏)

Again, IBL does not guarantee True Breed results, but you need True Breed results to claim true uniform IBL line.
But, IBL are also F1 offspring with mother/father (BX1, 1st generation) so
it will hardly be True Breeding but still considered IBL.
It all depends on the Genetics at hand how far you need to go down the line in order to solidify your selections

Some IBLs are impossible as you need building blocks that don't exist within the genetics your working with, or you don't have enough selections to go through

But still, it has no bearing on putting what you want in seed form,
Just means you can expect to have a lot more "pure" aka the genetics you started with wise plants

2024 state of the gene pool.

I think the gene pool is in pretty good shape.
You can literally order seeds from every continent. you can click on your phone while laying in bed and poof the seeds will be in the mailbox. (yes. i understand things have been lost - but but but

I think the state of the dispensary choices however is pretty much all the same genetic.

But i dont think its all doom and gloom. This plant is old old old. Its been through some shit. And i think its gonna be just fine.

There have been a couple bottle necks in my lifetime already. Sams work, Nevilles work, the dutch work, canadian work. then the OGs then the cookies.

so it seems like we have really done something, but im not so sure we have done anything?
I have faith in mother nature. i think it will all be alright.

When you go around to India you see not much has changed about weed in nature, still insane hash and creme there
But everywhere else that people have touched it has gotten worse
Ams, Thailand, USA,
The list goes on and on
The pursuit after money destroys everything eventually as it's one of the main roots of evil
Nothing good can sustain in that environment for long.

We have seed makers pushing chucks for 100$ that they don't even know what they hold, not tested for anything, just two names together is enough today to have some kind of idea on their own "work".
