2015 First grow outdoors PNW 45°

Hello, haven't really posted before but I've been a long time lurker and medical marijuana patient. Working toward producing my own medicine and learning how to grow cannabis at the same time.

After seeing all the outdoor threads from across the world on here, I've gained a bit of courage to show you all my attempts and ask for advice along the way.

So lets start it out.

I popped a few white widow seeds I got from a very dank sack of weed back in 2014. Picked out a sativa leaning pheno and an indica leaning pheno and decided to mother them out until I could flower. Fast forward a year. I took about 40 clones of both mothers and started two new moms. All of my clones took but I wanted to see which were going to do the best to be put outside for the summer of 2015 here in the Pacific North West (Washington 45°).

Using clone-x gel and rapid rooter plugs I had my first signs of initial roots on May 24th.

On May 27th I had quite explosive roots and decided to transplant into solo cups with Ocean forest soil.

Fast forward to July 2nd I couldn't get outdoors earlier, but shortly after this photo I put them outside in the shade to harden outdoors and adjust to their new schedule. I also wanted see which were the most hardy.

My location here at 45° gets decent sun. They have direct sunlight from about 8 am till 7pm with some partial shading mid day for the indica row. Hoping for the best. I dug about five to seven gallon holes and filled them with a Happy frog mixture with Sunshine 4 mix aggregate plus.

Got em in the dirt on 7-10. Sativa on the right row, indica on the left row.

on 7-12 I top fed with a local redworm farm mixture containing premium castings with a rabbit manure vermicompost. Keeping this organic.

Things had been going pretty good. Roots were definitely taking off and growth was starting. This was taken on 7-18:

around this time period I started using aerated compost teas. I started out using aquarium pumps but then upgraded with new aerators. Using unsulphered molasses to feed my tea after dechlorinating it for 24-48 hours. Picked up some BMO organic humic acid tea nutrients off ebay (old photo) to try out.

On 7-21 I put tomato cages around them and really started feeding my teas about two or three times a week.

Here's a picture of my tea setup

On 7-25 things were going good, growth had been taking off but still quite a bit to go! I got the two center indicas transplanted but they aren't doing as well.

8-1: growth has been amazing. Plants have easily double or tripled in size in the last 25 days.

And today's update 8-4:

I didn't post all my photos but I figured this would be a good start. I am praying these start flowering soon with all the great amazing weather we've been having on the west coast! Hope you all enjoy.

Thank you all, I'm definitely a newbie and inexperienced but have been reading forums for years anxiously awaiting and preparing myself to grow. I'd love to be able to build out a flower room and start cycling crops to supply myself with meds. If this crop doesn't finish I will be making full plant extract tincture with food grade ethanol, bubble hash and maybe some medicated coconut oils.. Hopefully I can get some smokeables but yeah.

Checked the ladies this morning while making coffee and weather forecast says' an upper 70s cloudy day. Todays' feeding day but I will do that tonight after my soil dries out a bit, or in the morning depending how the beds and plants look.

western or eastern WA?

are they going to finish flowering before the rains return?

mold is an issue in western WA for me...just sayin'.

best of luck friend.

Western WA here. Hoping for an Indian summer, should finish mid October..

Spent time doing some LST training today, helping relieve my stress. Plants looking beautiful, no nasty bugs and I plan to water in the morning with some humic acid tea.

Thank you jbarsk8, I also love how they dance and track the sun! I feel like I should clear out the inside and underneath growth of leaves. What do you guys think?

some older photos of the ladies Dancin' towards the sky

Arent we all! I'm in a similar area growing local bag seed as well!

I remember vividly buying the bag in mid october, and for a great price because it was outdoor quality "no name bud" with a few seeds. It was a crisp sunny fall day and maple leaves were crunching underfoot as I walked over to the weedmans house. I saved the seeds because good outdoor genetics for NW rarely fall into your lap.

Now I have three 5 foot mini-trees, that are showing sex but have not started true flowering yet :shucks:

They are certainly hearty though, I have only given light organic nutes twice, had to unexpectedly re-pot twice, and they have trunks as wider than a quarter. Survived the heat wave(s) with only minor leaf curling.

If you are interested in pollinating some of your interesting pheno's for seed, Im looking for an excuse not to cull my male!

Point being, Im not sure how the previous grower got this harvested and dried and cured by mid october. Im starting to worry he used some sort of light deprivation technique which means im up spit creek with out a paddle when fall starts.

Then again, these plants never cease to surprise me. lets keep our fingers crossed for a dry fall!

Right?! I truly have no clue about the outdoor flowering capabilities of these girls, if they start budding soon in our light before September will I know if it's anything worth continuing.

Although, because I am so unfamiliar with this white widow I have moms saved in case it does turn out to be worth saving. These dealt with the 110 degree heat wave no problem and even the cold nights with some purple stalks.

I might be interested in pollinating, truly interested in seeing whether these are plants I want to get seed out of, or continue cloning?

I'll have to recruit my partner to chop em if they don't finish, I know I can't do it myself.

The real kicker is that I'm not actually positive I'm growing the NW outdoor strain. I got these seeds about two years ago, but used the baggy to store all the different bag seeds I accumulated. I made sure that the three I germ'd all looked very similar, but still...

Fortunately, they all apear to be the same pheno, even if I grabbed the wrong seeds.

Did some trimming today of lower tiny branches. I definitely need to get my pruners out and clean up the sativa some. Its' gettin wild lol. Took some pictures for you all today after I trimmed and watered.

Little cell phone video of a jumping spider. Found about 5-6 throughout the garden on my plants.

Did some more trimming today of the unnecessary sap branches. Think i cleaned up pretty much everything I wanted to on the sativas, although I hardly touched the Indicas. Might go out tomorrow and do that. Going to have some nice tops, especially if I have another two weeks of stretch going into flower.
