arabs treat women very very badly, with saudi arabia being one of the worst offenders of women's rights. they always have. saudi arabian islam has nothing to do with modern american or western ways. it has to do with wahabism, which orginated in arabia. saudi arabia has very strict segregation laws for men and women. thats the way it is over there.

Not so much so as in earlier decades. America, unfortunately, is increasingly seen globally as the douchebag driving the Hummer. The only countries that love our way of life tend to also be very shortsighted in terms of the natural world. American culture is seen as consumer culture, which is increasingly externally and internally being seen as the wrong way to go. Of course, this has nothing to do with how Saudis view us since they've strongly adopted our culture of spend, spend, spend. You'll also notice we (the gubment) never condemn Saudi Arabia. It is becoming one of the world's hottest tourism spots and everyone (including Americans) are buying up property there as though we're going to annex the joint.

Agreed, but unfortunately, unless you discover an island of Amazon babes (and please tell me when you do), it's ingrained into every culture on the face of this planet (There might be some matriarchal societies somewhere in the rainforest and in some American High School Wiccan groups, but both are inhabited by fat little pygmies without much going on.

Religion is the driving force behind the inequalities. It provides a means for people to justify their numerous misdeeds and atrocities against their fellow man or in this case woman.

No Religion, Know Peace...We just need our spirituality. Not some ass clown with a big hat telling us what's right and wrong.

I enjoy all religions as a philosophy on how to live a righteous life. All religions at the root have the same target, but take different paths there. What you see now in most popularized forms of base religions are the bastardization of the ages. One can still see a righteous motivation for all religions, but when looked at through the haze of human effect over time, it becomes nothing more than a brainwashing money/power machine. Unfortunately even the religion or philosophy I follow has succumbed to the same fate. But if you read the founding books on any popular religion, you will see an instruction book on how to live a long, worry-free life. It's what institutionalization has done to these doctrines that we (or maybe just I) hate so much.

I say as long as you don't put the idea of some judgmental intelligent form as a blanket over the life lessons of the ancients, you can gain a lot from most any religion. But as soon as you fear 'the almighty' and internalize lies that people with hidden (and not so hidden) agendas tell you about how you should live life, that's when you lose the true message.

I don't think that religion is the root of the problems in Saudi arabia, the basic problem is that it is an extremely wealthy feudal society. I mean it is a monarchy, with the rich families getting richer and richer and the poor staying poor. The rich stay in power by oppressing the poor and and by blaming the problems of the poor on other people, ie. western culture. while the ruling class in Saudi Arabia is doing this they publicly kiss the ass of the US to keep the dollars flowing, but they privately support th extremist groups to keep the support of their own people by blaming the problems of the poor on the US. Saudi Arabia is the largest source of terrorism in the word, but the US will never say so because we need the oil.

How many of you have actually been to and lived in Saudi? Other than for the U.S. millitary and all of it's brand of theft, occupation and erogance. I think that we all know that the treatment of women in many parts of the world (including Saudi) ia absolutely horrible. I am not from that part of the world, but my sister is married to someone from there and after meeting many folks from that part of the world and after my sister has gone for months on end several times. (going to move there next spring) I have found as she has that we "drink a lot of poison from the right wing natzi's in the US" Have any of you ever spent any time with the right wing cristian conservatives in this country that hang, denograte, seggragate and malign every other group out there? I mean let us look in the mirror please. Saudi has major issues that are beyond belief sometimes when it comes to religion and women. I see the same thing with capitalism and the "so called cristians" of the right wing in the US. Hell their choice for president says "the constitution is just a damn piece of paper". How many of their wives can vote as they please and actually tell their husbands?

We in the US have all of these conservatives that preach about the moral high ground and then go out rednecking. You know biggetry, drinking to excess, destroying our planet/enviroment, objectifying women, invading other countries and killing hundreds of thousands in the name of oil and money. My sister goes to Saudi and her sister-in laws (who are educated ie dentist, lawyer....) get the driver and go to the mall, to the salon/spa, to Starbucks, to France for a visit. They spend time with all of the large family and yes they have opinions. There are truths (many) to what people say happens to women in Saudi and they are not granted the rights/freedoms that they should be, but it is getting better and is for sure used as a great media tactic for the right wing in the US. Remember the King of Saudi does not let anyone go homeless or hungry, provides the best medical care possible for everyone there, provides the best possible education for everyone. What do US conservatives do? They kill innocent people overseas in the name of money, step on anyone they can in their pursuit of money and let's see o yeah they pursue proffit ant any cost. Now that is a good cristian way of life. Proffit before humanity and love, and pure self enrichment.
