its probably about as loud as a computer, but there are cheap ways to muffle it like putting the fan inside a cardboard box.

I am curious too as to how loud this thing runs.

I am as well. A dbA rating would be nice if you have it. Hopefully its below 40dbA.

Boondock Thanks for Snapping a pic of it. It seems that the picture on the website isnt accurate and its an Arctic brand fan. Hate to bother you even more but could you give us the model number. I wanna verify the cfm and dbA rating on their website if its not to much of a bother for you. Your girls are looking great.

sure no problem it is Kest-4718w i googled it didnt come up with anything let me know if you do.

Seems the company name is actually "Kest" and this is their "Arctic" brand muffin/axial fans. I found a model number that was close to yours "Kest-471BW" which I suspect is the same unit. Here are the ratings for it.

Brand.........................CFM...........dB...........Volt...........Price........Bearing Type
Artic #Kest-471BW........112...........40............120...........$14.50.....Ball Bearing

Here is the link that I sourced my info from if you wanna look further into it. LINK!!!

Specifications

Outer Dimension: 82x80x67.2mm
Fan Dimension: 80x80x25 mm
Current: 0.07A ~ 0.13A
Fan Speed: 1100 ~ 3000 rpm
Airflow: 53.2 ~ 100 CFM
Noise: Lo< 21 , HI<23dBA
Voltage: 12V

You can find these fans on ebay. This fan is ideal as an exhust fan because it has a cover and is a turbine which helps with light leaks (also has a dimmer switch built in). It got mixed reviews on the link I posted above because of noise.

*sorry didnt mean to hijack your thread just thought it might be helpful*

I have some 6 inch 240v NMB fans, they do shift a lot of air, but they are very, very noisy. Perhaps making a wooden box enclosure and some creative use of sound insulation materials and they can be brougth down to a reasonable level of noise?

From what I gather, the information from the link that i got it from, the noise it makes is a high pitched whirring noise. Three people from that link have actually bought the unit. One person had nothing but praise for it and the other two said it was too noisy for them. There were no scientific test conducted to measure dbA so its just a matter of opinions.
