2.5 eights and butter - worth it??

Every time we do 1/4 or so, the butter never works.

Why is this? Does it work for you?

The nug is decent
It's boiled in water/butter, usually 1/4 nugget to 8 tablespoons butter
It's boiled for 2 hours

Why the hell would it be so weak!?

Shouldn't you be able to eat a gram's worth equivalent of butter and get knocked on your butt with decent nug (nothing amazing, but decent)?

Please help, this is getting so discouraging.

Usuaully we eat the butter raw since it never works anyways

What are you doing with the butter afterwards? Is it possible you are cooking something at high heat and destroying THC?

I never boil when I make butter, I take Keff No buds at all just leaves, Put them in a crock pot with water enough to cover the leaves then throw in two to three sticks of butter, let it cook for 2 hours or so on low heat. then strain it cool it separate it then eat it on toast! Please wait 45 min to take effect! I promise you! You will be fooked up!

We did a crock pot on high and it didn't work. Very dissapointing.

Boiling seems like the safest bet since we'll know it reached the right temp.

Because the water and weed is with butter and you boil the water....It's only 212F so the butter won't burn...

Interesting, I've never ever boiled. As a matter fact, I've specifically tried not to boil it. One time when I first started getting into edibles, I burned my bud while making the butter, and it was horrible!

Never let it get that hot again, I just bring it to a nice simmer. The thing is, while heat 'activates' THC, it can also destroy it.

If you want to do some quick and easy edibles, try this:

Get some pre-made cookie dough, and slice it up into cookie sized slices. Take a fat joints worth of weed, and smush it up into the slice of cookie dough. I do an entire batch like that :D Bake it per directions, and enjoy!

Word of warning, if you don't get it mixed in real good, you'll end up biting into a fat pocket of weed and it'll taste like the ass end of a week dead mule.

It'll get ya lit right the fuck up :D Plus, since you know how much each cookie has, you can double up without getting a surprise :joint:

Yeah but 390F destroys (vaporizes) the THC. So keeping it at 212F should not be a problem. Even when you simmer you must be bringing it to at least 200F or so, so there's really no difference.

I'd rather cook butter or coco oil, because puttin it in dough doesn't seem efficient, and other reasons.

It seems just like not enough boiling time or something, but damn, so weird.. Need to gather up 1/2z or 1z and give it a go.

I think the problem here might be the time you are allowing for extraction. Please try to extract for 2-3 hours in a crockpot (slow cooker) at LOW setting. Also, you can extract into vegetable oil for baking, as well. I heat 1 cup of vegetable oil in the crockpot on low setting and add 7 grams per half cup, for a total of 14 grams of WELL-GROUND marijuana. You MUST finely pulverize your flowers for maximum extraction. I have found with these methods that I have a 100% success rate. Good luck with your future experiments in edibles.

I guess the efficiency is an 'eye of the beholder thing'.

My whole point about the boiling was just that I'd never heard of boiling it before. Seems that would make the water in the crockpot evaporate, which seems strange to me. I wasn't saying that it had to be simmered, or boiled, because it doesn't, I was just curious why you were using the higher heat. The basic thing about heating the butter is to keep it liquid. Any higher than that isn't really serving any great purpose.

But, I wish you luck, because edibles rule! Check out Lady Olive's Snickerdoodle recipe, I've always had great success with that one - 2 cookies had me absolutely wasted for a good 12 hours.

best method i found for making cana butter: Get your self a nice crock pot and put it on the lowest setting and let the ganja cook in there on low for 10hours. If you dont have a crock pot use normal pot at the lowest setting on your stove, the key is slow cook and the thc will not degrade itself ! Then strain out all excess plant matter and cook the butter in your favorite brownie or cookie recipe!

The whole point of boiling in water (as journies said) is that you are making it hot enough to decarboxylate the THC, yet it is impossible, because of the boiling point of water, for it to get so hot that it destroys THC. But if you are cooking it in straight oil or fat, it's really easy to burn it...

Ah, see, there's the difference in eating it straight I guess.

I always count on the baking to 'activate' the THC.

I've tried making green butter with water and oil/ butter/ coconut oil, and I find the water makes a gross mess; it's hard to get all the water out of the batch and it can mess up the quality of the recipe. Instead, I use an old-style crock pot with three settings: off, low and high. (You can find used crock pots in secondhand stores.) NEVER use high;it definitely burns your butter. But I set my crockpot on low for 8 hours (overnight) -- OUTDOORS, because my husband hates the smell and no one in our neighborhood cares -- and strain the mash through a cheesecloth. I save the old leaf-batch in the freezer, and next time I make butter I use it with a new batch of leafage. Sometimes I also add pre-made green butter to the new batch I'm cooking, especially if I feel the first batch wasn't very strong. (I prefer very strong oil that you don't need to use much of.)

I use cooking-bud to help me sleep. With my awesome chocolate chip cookie recipe, it's fun to eat and fun to sleep. I've also noticed that different varieties of little-leaf bud give different effects. For example: Train Wreck little-leaf makes cookies that keep you laughing and high: an "activating" buzz; whereas REAL Kush (not including OG Kush or Master Kush, they're not true indicas) or other strong Indica types send me right to sleep. The size of the cookies matters too: I took to weighing out my cookies by the gram just to be able to estimate how stoned I was going to get. This works well if the quality and strength of your butter batches fluctuates by flavor or season.

Once several years ago I went to visit my grown son in Oregon, and we made cookies together in his group household. First night we ate one cookie each; woke up 14 hours later! Next night, we ate 1/2 cookie each; slept 12 hours!! Next night, we ate 1/4; slept 10 hours! I left town and returned to visit 3 weeks later; he told me they still had cookies in the freezer, and that over time they had determined that the proper dose was 1/16 OF A COOKIE!!! YES, it was that strong!! So be very careful when you dose, or dose yourself when you know you won't have to be operating heavy machinery, etc. We want you all alive and well.

If anyone want any of my cookie recipes, let me know. I've been doing this a long time.

not to be rude but if you read the butter in 7 steps thread it says boil the water and melt the butter..then turn on LOW heat then add the weed. your boiling away your thc man
