2 1k's or 2 600's?

i think the q should be 2 1000's or 3 600s? I say 600's

The three 600s would be close to the same number of lumens as the two 1000s, due to the better efficiency of the 600s. The additional angles/points of light would also help with the penetration, even though their wattage is lower.
The three 600s would cost more up front than the 2 1000s, but would use ~10% less electricity.
The two 600s are pretty much at the minimum w/ft2 that most folks recommend, but it would certainly work if cost is an important factor (and it's not like you HAVE to use every square inch of your tent for plants).
Those are pretty much the variables you have to look at, from that you should be able to make an informed decision on what is best for your situation.
- 2 600W would give you just over 40 w/ft2
- 3 600W would give you just over 60 w/ft2
- 2 1000W would give you around 68 w/ft2

for the price of 3 600's you can get 3 1000s and have 3000w instead of 1800w
and be almost twice as much electricity consumed,harder to cool...would it be nice,you're damn right it would,but can the OP accomodate all that?
Your vote was for 2x 1000's and well my friend 3x 600's would simply be better becuase of the multiple light sources and more even light distribution.Also 600w HID's have a better lumen/watt ratio the any other HID on the market....c'mon man you know you can't argue with that.

how tall are the plants gonna be?
gotta think about how much pentetration you need...
if the plants are gonna be 24" tall maybe 600s would be best
but if you need 36"+ 1000s are much better suited

That would be if they only had one light hanging in the middle, they plan on having at least two.

Also the post with numbers for watts per sq foot is wrong as they have the wrong sq footage.
9.6x4.6=44.16 not 29.25, so you would get,
two 600 watt lights: 27.17 wpsf
three 600 watt lights: 40.76 wpsf
two 1k lights: 45.28 wpsf
If by 9.6 and 4.6 they meant 9'6"x4'6"
Then the numbers would be 42.75 sq feet and the wpsf would be
two 600 watt lights: 28.07 wpsf
three 600 watt lights: 42.10 wpsf

I'll take 1000's any day. My 1000's are air cooled and I can put them 12-15 inches above plant tops with no problems. I can touch the glass on my reflector and it's not unbearably hot to the touch. Six inches away from the glass and I can feel VERY little heat at all.
The more lumens the merrier. IMO. As long as it can be properly cooled that is.

Yep, sorry 'bout that, OP - I'm sure your tent isn't 10 feet tall! 3 600W or 2 1Ks are your options, 2 600s wouldn't be enough.

I always went by this saying, if your gonna do something, do it right. And if your not gonna do it right don't do it at all. Overkill? or just serious about growing big resious buds?

my plants can grow into the lens of my ac no problem only if they didnt get bleached from TOO much light.... but the bottoms of my plants are enjoying that increased light even if not much makes it through my fan leaves are soaking it up.... i keep my plants 6 inches from the 1k no problem....
a 6inch vortex can cool 2k easy, just shoot nice cool air through those hoods
Not only is my room cool (68 degree ambient) i run a 6 inch vortex on each 1k... why becasue i was so paranoid about the heat from the 1k i bought a fan for each light , not necassary but keeps temps even lower....
