2 1000's to start?

A

I'm buying a new house this summer and I'm buying all my equipment before I leave this location so I dont attract leo.

I only really want to start small but I already have tons of t5's and a 400 watt hps. Should I get 2 additional 600w's? and cool tube them? or go with 2' 1000's? off the bat?

I'm more looking for the most efficent and I want to re-use as many parts as i can in the future (lights, ballasts, etc).

the house will be a 4 bedroom house I'm dedicating the basement to growing eventually.

600 or 1000's? to build from?

1000w all the way, more is better- imo

some say you can get 600 closer but its less intensity so whats the point?

if you properly air cool your 1k you can get plenty close....

I am currently using a 1000 and a 400 watt lights and have used 600s before. 1000 are most def the way to go esp if you are using the cool tube, it is very easy to cool the light. the 1000 will give you much better light penetration.

Right on guys, I'll get the 2 , 1000watt's with air cooled hoods.

Will I be able to run 2 1000 watt's and a vortech and a a/c unit in one room safely? or will i have to get an electrician to run a sub panel? I'm stupid when it comes to electricity so please explain!

Thanks guys

You might need some electric work done. You'll have to find out when you look at the place. My place has 15 amp breakers, so I had a 40 amp breaker put in and run my room from that. Works great, never trips cause I'm nowhere near running it at capacity. Also, 240v equipment is more efficient with amperage usage, so if possible, get that and have your electrical work installed with a euro plug. Or just re-wire an existing outlet if you can run it off what's already there.

I'd suggest a trip to a book store and picking up Jorge Cervantes' Indoor/Outdoor Medical Grower's Bible. Has a good bit of info about electric and all other aspects of growing.

-edit- The 40A breaker added was new, there was nothing there, and it was done by an electrician I trust.

Thanks TG, Is this all hard work? I guess the price of installation can vary but what am I looking $$ wise to wire up a room to be able to run 2-3k hps and fans?

What would be an excuse for an electrician to do this? Should I borrow a friends guitars and amps and shit and make a bullshit story about making a recording studio or something?

Cheers!

A recording studio is a good excuse, that's what I would've used if I'd paid an electrician. I have a friend who used to be an electrician do my electric work for $100, some beer and whatever supplies are needed. It'd be best to know how to do it yourself, but if you have any friends who know electricity, ask them first. Otherwise you could hire an electrician and just give them an excuse.

I couldn't tell you how to do it yourself because I don't know, and I'd rather not risk your safety by claiming to know :joint: Read up on amp usage for grow equipment, then you can look at what you're using and figure how many amps you need. I try to allow extra for equipment that'll be added later on (AC, dehumidifier if needed, more lights, more fans, etc). It'd be nice if someone with more knowledge about electricity could chime in.

Sounds good I know my uncle is a very very very good electrician but he lives in my hometown 5000km away, Maybe I'll call him and use this forum and instructions and do it myself.

I'll have to wait till I find a house though, Just probing for information now and learning!

thanks

If your credit is good for 500k mortage, why would you risk your shit with growing?
Whats your sallary 150k+?

I have a 50 thousand dollar downpayment that helped quite a bit.

Why am I growing? Because I only work 6 months of the year, I get bored, I get pissed off at dealers that can't have weed when I want it and I love growing!

I'm in Canada in the Construction Industry, about 92k in 6 or 7 months.

Congrats on the loan and hopefully startin your own operation up soon....as for the electrical work if you are running 2-3k plus all other fans and ac you may need you will want to get some electrical work done. I got three 15 amp outlets and im running 1400w....i have got plenty but glad i got the work down professionaly.

Hope your smoking on some nice home grown soon!

Damn, andrew, very nice. Too bad you're not around here, I have a friend who sets up large scale grow rooms in the Pacific NW.

Since you'll own the house and we have a little more info about your budget, I suggest getting electric work done. At the very least, it'll never shut off cause you'll only be running your room from the breaker. At the very worst? You might need more! haha

I like your reasons for growing too, same as mine. Plus, it's relaxing. I stress out easily and have bad depression issues and having something to keep me busy for hours a day at times, especially something I enjoy 100% of the time through every part of it, is always helpful.

I think I might just do all the electrical at the start so I wont even worry, This will give me a few months to get to know the nieghbors and not be so paranoid if I get it running soon as I move in, I can get a vibe from the neighborhood ya know?.

I'm going to be buying in the next 50-70 days and I dont think I'll be up and running until MID to END of summer, That way it doesnt harvest when outdoor does because then my shit wont sell at all.

I have alot of friends out in British Columbia doing large scale grows but I'm pretty silent as to what i'm doing but I kind of ask for help carefully here and there from them.

Yup our reasons are the exact same, I havent been diagnosed with depression or anything but I feel exactly what you are feeling in the cold winters up here in Canada. I get bored easily and when I grow I can just sit there with the plants or spend hours in the grow room and that makes me happy.

BTW: I just ordered 150 Seeds (Master Kush and Jock Horror) for the first grow

Master Kush and JH... I'm jealous! I haven't ordered seeds before, I'm in the states and I'd hate to have them sent to me and intercepted or tracked to me by a company getting in legal trouble. There are so many I want to try though!

You know the 600's are very nice, they are the most efficient (per watt) of any HPS systems, and you can use, say two of them side by side in place of a 1,000. Two points of light + close to the canopy, usually makes them grow better because of the overlap. But, a 600 watt system costs about the same as a 1,000 watt does. Also, with 1,000's you'd have some great overlap too, and who cares if the light can get closer to the canopy with a 600w when it doesn't penetrate as well as a 1,000w? Just take advantage of the duct hookups on the hoods and you can get a 1,000 watt plenty close. I guess it's just just based on preferences and budget. :joint:
