1st time tent grow as well as first grow ever

Hey Everyone,

I am getting all the components together and I have a couple of questions about intake and exhaust. Ive read a bunch about when tent growing, airflow is crucial to keep white mildew from appearing. My tent (gorilla tent) is 3ftX3ftx7'11"and I will be running a 700W LED light. I also have a Hurricane 6 inch 435 CFM Fan + Phresh 400 Carbon Filter for the exhaust. Most likely will have 4 - 3 gallon pots running coco. My question is what is the optimal setup for airflow and air exhaust for this tent? Should I purchase another fan to blow air in and if so should it be filtered? I will have 3 small fans to circulate air on the inside.....will that be enough without an additional intake fan? If I leave the vent windows open in the tent, will that defeat the scrubber?

Thanks guys!

I'd say you'll be fine and go for it, each persons would be different depending on air & temps outside the tent. My tents perfect (4 me) when room window is open but have to turn up fan speed a notch if it isn't
Good luck

Thanks so much @Outcold. That was very informative and helpful. I got a fan controller as well so I can adjust speed, just in case :D

Why are the 3 gallon coco buckets too much for a horizontal grow? I will set them up as coco hempys so it will have a 2 inch res in the bottom. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I have seen a couple of peeps run 3.5 and 5 gal coco hempys with pretty good results.

I am getting everything set up and about to pop some beans....cant wait. I will make a journal when things are in motion.

Many thanks.

Welcome and congratulations.
I believe that your fan and filter combo will provide you with a negative pressure. It may even be overkill for your set-up since you are running an LED. (Overkill is good).
The negative pressure will eliminate the need for an intake fan. The walls of your tent will bow in slightly once it is up and running due to the strength of your fan. Even with all the air intakes open (and excess ducts closed).
The three additional fans you have may be overkill, but put at least one at the canopy height or just below, and maybe another one between the canopy and the light...
I enjoy putting the filter and fan on-top of the tent with an appropriate piece of sheet rock and some appropriate length 2x4's. This gives me the illusion of some level of fire protection, and keeps all the equipment out of the working area. Seeing as your tent is very tall (I just set up a friends Gorilla yesterday. Very impressed. Will be getting those in the future) you can easily attach fan to filter (no ducting between) and cinch to the inside ceiling of the tent. Take an appropriate size of ducting and make a short run to the outside of the tent, presumably from the ceiling duct.
By virtue of your using LED I know you are running a horizontal set-up. 3 gallon containers is too large for the hydroponic medium coco. But your grow style will dictate what you ultimately use. I have access to my garden on a daily basis, so I can monitor my moisture/feeding levels of my coco. I personally use airpots, coco, and blumats.
I am unsure how much you have read or are still researching, so I will not go too far down that road...
I hope this provides a useful perspective!

I think you will see a lot more peeps running somewhere around 1.5-2 gallon hempys. When I did hempy (I think it is the best easiest method for the beginner or further) I used 2 gallon buckets with 2"pearlite at bottom and coco as the medium. I felt the 2 gallon was overkill. Coco as a medium does not mean more is better. It is easier for me to manipulate coco how I want to with a smaller container/volume.

Thanks man! Good information for sure. The way I was reading things was the more space for roots to grow, the bigger the plant. Smaller pots mean less medium....which in turn means lower cost. I will check out some grows using smaller pots. Many thanks @Outcold.
