1st time outdoor growing

I have used HPS lamps to stat seedlings for many years without any problems, Most growers don't use them because they aren't required if your only starting a few plants, and the additional electrical usage would be a waste.

If your planning on using any type of HID lamps, be sure to place them far enough away from your plants so the heat doesn't dry out the young ones.

Plant size outdoors is directly related to how much veg time they have before flowering. Putting them out later in the season will give you smaller plants but also decreased yields.

Strain types determine size aswell. Some strains just grow faster than others. So make sure you know how big a particular strain will get if height is a concern.

I was totally unprepared for the amount of growth this Uranium Cranium plant put out during last season.

This clone was put into the ground about June 1st. It ended up being over 9 feet tall and almost as wide.

...you dont think there would be any help by also turning the HPS on along with the fluro's?
No, it would not help.

If your going to use flouros, the plants have to be very close to the lights and that would shade them from the HPS. If they are far enough away from the flouros to get HPS light, the flouros are useless.

The HPS would be useful if you keep the seedlings long enough to require a transplant. Once they are spread out, the flouros become too weak to light them.

A 400W HPS can provide satisfactory light to 8 square feet. If the plant are too far away, they will stretch to get closer to the light.

...these chopper's ae looking for large grow's. if they were looking for a small marijuana grow they wouldnt be on helicopter's because they would'nt find them if they were
In Hawaii, one of the most heavily searched areas, they use helicopters with an observer suspended from a cable. The observer is carried just a few feet off the ground and can easily spot a single plant.

Large plots of organized plants stand out from a long distance, smaller plots and individual plants can be identified from a hundred feet, easy. That is where they fly their search patterns.

Some areas are well known for the annual Cannabis plots. Those are the areas that get the most intense searching.

Bottom line, if your subject to aerial searches, even a single plant can bring you down.

Hey how in the hell did that clone get that BIG!!. Please tell me what trick you used, was that topped or was the key to success the amount of roots. You got to TELL ME that plant is crazy. I know that got ripped at the end but how much would you say that would yield?

Thx.

Seymour, That plant just grew like a weed. I would love to tell you it was my skill that helped that plant develop into what she was, but in fact, I just watered and fed her while Mother Nature ran it's course.

I'm sure genetics played an important role. That strain had been crossed within itself to grow large, by a very dedicated grower. She was sucking down about 4 gallons of water and ferts every four days. The trick was feeding here what she could handle along with plenty of sunshine from Mother Nature.

She was fed Miracle Grow All Purpose 10-15-10 from the day i recieved her, and
10-30-10 during flower.

She had been topped twice, and at one point, cut back over 12 inches in an attempt to keep her under the fence. As you can see my efforts were futile.

She was a nute hog, and later during flower was sucking up 1-1/2 times the recommended percentage listed on the box of nutes.

Several growers are growing the Uranium Cranium this season and there is a thread dedicated to the strain, Click on the link in my signature.

It should be a very interesting thread as summer progresses.

Based on past experience, I would guess that plant would have produced over 1 lb of dry buds. We'll find out this season, as the rippers left a few branches behind that have been cloned and revegged over winter.

She'll get a second chance this season when the weather breaks.

stay safe
