1st PLL / Cab grow

Nice micro hydro oldone. I dont see a lot of micro hydro grows and was wondering how did you setup the micro ebb/flow.? If you dont mind asking.
Hi VERMI, not at all, the answer is with difficulty.:)

I chose E&F because of its simplicity and the large body of knowledge available here on IC. I liked the no airstones needed bit.

Anyway here is the original design:
cab size
f: 32.125h x 26.875w x 23.25d 4.3 sft 11.6 cuft
v: 23.755 x 11.25 x 23.25 1.8 sft 3.6 cuft

Its meant to fit in a small space under some stairs. Here it is open:

and closed:

The only change I made was the internal airflow. Each chamber has its own intakes now so I sealed up the wall between them. Light proofing is much simpler.

What do you think?

Woah, I really like that setup. I'm definitely going with PLLs next time I grow. How much weight did you cut off of those beasts? Obviously, wet weight.

I dont have scales (on purpose) but I think 8 or 10 oz. 2 or 3 oz cured will last me a long time...

Great looking buds mate!!! My only suggestion is to make whatever you use adjustable in height. See how you had one towering cola above the rest? I would have tied that down and raised the whole lot. Probably not possible with the plumbing you got but anyway that's my suggestion. Really nice comeback.

Thanks Scrub. But man they shrink a lot drying LOL I'd forgotten...

The plant's main stem is about 8" (20cm) from the right wall. The towering cola was the lowest branch on the plant so it could support its own weight and it was tied over else it would have gone past the lights. I wanted to let it get real close to the lights so I could see if there ware any effects (BTW, none really). All of the rest just fell over. The whole plant was poorly supported...my bad. I really just threw the thing in there to see if it would work :)

I pulled about a 12" (30cm) ball of roots and hydroton. I did not see many roots beyond it. Not sure what to make of it.

From my study of PLL lights, I learned that they rapidly lose intensity beyond 15" (38cm). So I used fixed lights (KISS) with that 15" space below them. Still with only 30" (76cm) vertical total I had to squeeze an E&F system in the other half.

As mentioned before, I have been studying D9's excellent PPK thread. He's pulled 8-10 ozs off plants grown in entirely passive hydro. His discussion of the perched water table is extremely interesting. I'm thinking of converting my system over to his style. He has even become a coco guy.

I'll start a new thread when things get sorted out for run 2, but I'm still happy to answer questions in this one.

hey, oo! nice yield for such a tight area! i've scrogged before but i had lots of headroom. i really like your technique of winding the plant around those cords, i used 2" fence and it was very difficult to work with. nice job and thanks for the plug.

Thanks D9, The cords worked OK but did not support the plant very well. When the nugs got bigger they just fell over...

For the next run I have an idea for a scrog screen with removable wire sections I want to try...

Nice cab, great grow!
Everything seems simple and in it's place, and your work obviously paid off :)

Thanks for the kind words Helis,

Yeah 3 months later and I'm still smoking my first run.:) I'm 4 weeks into flower on my second run and I have ditched the E&F for a wick system that is much simpler.

Check it out if you wish,
OO
