I'd recommend getting a few of the lights below the plants or cutting down the bottom branches. Right now they will produce nothing.
Also, try to keep clones from all the plants until you smoke a sample from each.
Sometimes the odd ones smoke the best.
Heyyy Fonzee,
I try to get the lights down into the plants lower areas. The trouble is they reach out to the light and burn their tips. I've got a bunch of burnt tipped leaves that have nothing to do with nutrients and everything to do with being to aggressive in keeping the cfl lights close to the plants.
I think I would have been better off with only 3 plants in the tent. But what was I to do? I got 4 females out of 6 seeds! It would have been rude to the fates if I didn't grow them all.
About the darker areas on the plant. My guess is that as you go lower on the plant, the bud sites will give less and different types of buds...if any at all. It is also my understanding that the lower unproductive areas of the plant use resources that would be better used elsewhere. I'm sure it's a bit silly but I want to see what all that stuff will look like and I am willing to suffer a decrease in total yield and quality for that experience. I have trimmed a few leafs and branches from the lowest levels. Anything that was touching the soil or rim of the container was removed. I didn't prune for enhanced yield, I pruned thinking that it was more sanitary to keep the plants off the ground a bit.
I may do a bit more pruning in the future to increase the air flow. The humidity in the tent is almost always in the low 60's. If the bud sites get dense it is my understanding that mold may occure. I've seen some post about trimming some of the bud out of dense cola's if the humidity is high. I've also seen posts about the dangers of overcrowding a grow area. I have 2 fans blowing now, one in the upper part of the tent and the other blowing up from under the plants. I may add a third fan just to make sure there are not stagnant areas in the tent. I'm thinking I am still 2 or 3 weeks away from this being a problem that needs to be addressed with pruning
Jeeez, Fonzee! You post a couple of good observations and I get all up into writing a treatise!
About the clones. I did take 2 cutting from each plant and was able to get roots from each cutting. (I was pretty happy about that) The noob mistake I made during the cloning process was not keeping track of the cuttings. I don't know which clone is from what plant!!!
I origanaly cut 2 clippings each from 4 plants for a total of 8 potential clones. They all rooted, but a couple of them looked twisted and bent so a trashed them. That left 6 rooted clones still in the plugs. I put them all into 5.5" x 5.5" containers with FFOF soil. 2 of those I put directly into the 12/12 grow tent because I want to see what will happen (I am a dude that is very curious about stuff). The remaining 4 clones have been topped once and are under a couple of 23watt 6500k cfls 24/7. I have been reading the sticky about bonsai mothers and am practicing on the clones. I am hoping that I am right and that the plant I names She Hulk is the best of the crop. If not, I still have these others and may need to try and figure out which one is from what plant.
All right man. Thanks for the comments and take it easy.
