12v RV pump powered with a PC PSU

Ok a while back I posted a question asking if I could use a Computer power supply unit to power a 12v RV pump. The answer I got was basically give it a try no one else has. So I went online and ordered a PSU rated for 25 amps, the pumps requires a minimum of 15 I figure 25 to be safe. I wired it all up to the 12v wire (yellow) on the PSU, I then jumped the PSU and away we went. I was sooo happy once I heard that baby power on and start pumping water.

I hope that helps another IC member someday later guys

I hope your RV pump holds up under the repeated long run times it will be subjected to. They are designed for clean-clear water. Hydro is not the place for pump failure.

Well I bought the same pump that Pod Racer uses with his TAG setup. I will have it on a 30sec on/3min off as stated in the trick my pod thread. Anyway thank you for your feedback and appreciate you thinking about that for me. A lot of times i over look important stuff and then kick myself in the balls later lol.

Hi there
One question, but you need a power button to fire up the Power Supply right?

Because your pc doesnt turn on itself once that is connected to electricity.

Well years ago I needed to use a PSU to power some fans for a grow room. I went to a PC forum (overclock.net) and learned that if you plug a wire into the green pin on the 24 pin connector. Then plug that wire into any black (ground) wired pin on the 24pin connector. You should be able to understand what I am saying from looking at the picture I added. This will also help anyone that is using a lot of PC fans and and a bunch of transformers to power them. One PC PSU can power almost as many fans as you could ever possibly need in the garden... one power source. And if you ever worry about power consumption a 500w PSU only draws as much power as it needs to. If you are only drawing 20 watts then well thats all your using :).
