120mm fan wiring

12v DC, fan right? Is there any other info on the fan? I'm a J-man electrician and can hopefully assist you.

link in my sig may help. If u r just running 1 fan on one ac-to-dc converter... cut off the end plug on the converter and hook the redwire to the converter wire and the black to the other. if it dosent spin reverse the wires. thats how mine work. i originally used a laptop converter and ran 2 fans (19vdc) but then i found a old ZIPDISK one that was 12vdc.

This is just a computer case fan w/ typical connecter. I think 4 wires? I imagine power and ground and signal. But i need a transformer? I dont want dc. I want to plug into my strip with light.

The transformer is what, well ... transforms your DC fan to an AC fan. Do NOT plug a DC fan into a wall socket or power strip! If you don't want a transformer, buy an AC fan.

You can't run a 12vDC fan off of 120vAC. Like stated above, you need a transformer to change your wall power (120vAC) into what the fan needs (12vDC).

I'd imagine that if you plugged your 12vDC fan into a 120vAC outlet, it would let all the smoke out and the fan wouldn't work anymore. :)

Alright, i will find a transformer that matches mA output and splice. This will be for a 250w hps cool tube.

Just remember that 1000 mA = 1 Amp and the transformer should provide at least enough to power one fan. Look for an old phone charger. After you find one and hook it up, you can best use it to blow over the tops of your plants. It certainly won't be strong enough to cool your light! You'll need a stronger fan for that.

The fan i have here says dc 24v 0.2 amp. One black one red wire. I need to test it first. Not sure it works. Not enough to cool a 250w lamp w/ cool tube? One other guy here uses the same setup and gets 160 grams a pop.

journeyquest,
The reason I say an axial fan is not strong enough is that axial fans can move a lot of air but not under pressure; they have little sucking power through tubes or ducts. For that you'll need a centrifugal fan. See this long thread about fans: http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=90678
In the first post, there is a chart comparing axial fans with centrifugals.

The only setup I've seen where axial fans were used successfully was _frankenstein_'s Wonderbox. He did it with doubled up axial fans. When hooked up that way, two axials have enough sucking power to cool his 250 watt hood. This is frankenstein's picture of his ventilation setup:

The plan is vents at the bottom of cab with a 6 in. fan pointing up. At least 2 vents up top with a fan 120mm pulling through cool tube. I dont need a scrubber b cause this will be in the garage by a window. Yet to try it. Once i get my tax $$$$. Also need to order seeds and lumatek ballast.
