12,000 BTU Portable A/C

You're probably right. I've already listed my portable A/c for sale. What is this "split" unit you are speaking of though? Do you mean a system that has a radiator outside of the building and then copper tubing that runs into the room kind of dealio? That would make way too much noise and look very silly connected to my shed lol. I could never get away with it. For $1100 I think i'd rather purchase an 800gallon swimming pool and a 2fan-3coil swamp cooler and run it on a closed loop through the winter. Less power consumption from what I hear, and it's not that heaty to rock a swimming pool outside your house.
If you think an 800 gallon pool contraption can out-perform an ac unit, go for it.

This is the unit I bought. Read thru their site and it'll explain everything.

You don't think an 800 Gallon swimming pool at like 10 degree's Celsius through out the winter will cool 4kw? I'm not trying to be rude, I'm actually curious of your stand point on it. It's not about outperforming, it's about how much electricity each cooling solution uses.

I have no clue but if it were that simple I'm sure somebody here would be posting about it.
I think I've seen it discussed here somewhere, showed a pic of an in ground pool. I believe it raised the water temp really fast. Not sure, every now and then the thread pops up...

Is it possible to put a larger diameter ducting on one of those room units, along with fans to increase the air flow through them? I'm wondering if that would be a less expensive alternative.

How well do those things work if you have solid ducting properly run with a good suction fan on it? Do they work like a real 12,000 btu unit??

I don't mean to kick a dead horse, but if you had done your homework ahead of time you would have known not to get a portable unit (whether single or dual hose, although dual hoses are slightly better than single), and to get a bigger unit as well.

You could air-cool your lights if that's still an option, and/or get a new A/C after selling that door stop.

I bought a 15K portable thinking it'd be overkill for 2 600s in aircooled reflectors. Wrong! Bloody thing is flat out keeping the temp below 30C and its winter down here at the moment.
I dream of the day I dont need to worry about noise/neighbours and can buy a split

Noise will not be an issue with a mini split, I promise you that. The only sound is like a small box fan (like the kind you buy at walmart for $20) set on low. It is almost silent.

Lol, that poor horse. He's already dead and still getting kicked.

Yes yes, if I had done my homework this wouldn't have happened. But due to immediate concerns of root rot my partner panicked and we ended up with this ghetto air conditioner. Keep in mind... some people have to make mistakes during the growing process. Really, if we all did "ALL" of our home work "ALL" the time, we'd probably never actually begin a grow because the knowledge seems like it's never ending.

I totally appreciate all the replies from everyone.
