12,000 BTU Portable A/C

Shouldn't this thing be able to handle 4x1kw Lights and Ballasts in the same room? It certainly doesn't :(

It's one of those Air in/out kinds that have an intake hose and an exhaust hose for the hot air. It's also a Dehu.

No.... It certainly doesn't. I go by the 3600 btu per 1000 watt RULE and have always been fine. So 15,000 btu's is more like it. plus portables are nowhere near as efficient as window or split system A/C's. So that 12,000 is prob more like a 10,000.

I just bought a 10,000 BTU portable A/C for a 240 sq ft room and 1600w of air-cooled lights, but 24/7 intake/exhaust.

Do you think the A/C/Dehumidifier will be efficient?

People seem to think a good AC will take care of dehumidification problems because they are oftem advertized as "cooling and dehumidification".Believe me its bullshit. You will need a dehumidifier along with an AC in a sealed room.Theres no way around it.Your lights off RH will be around 75-80%.Not too good for maturing buds

For sure man. The buds like the humidity low.

What resin lung said. Get a 18000 btu window unit, you will be glad that you did

Yea, only problem is I already spent $500 on this stupid portable A/C thing... Are those window units hellah noisy or what? I would have to mount it in a shed in a sealed airbox type dealio is there is no way that thing can stick out of the window lol. I'm in the middle of a city yo.

Edit**

What kind of power does an 18kw a/c draw?

i use a 11,000 btu port from lowes for $500 and its kepps my single 600watt room plenty cool but 4000w i think i would need atleast 2 maybe 3

How big/small is that room? Thats ALOT of cooling power for only 600w.

t33to, If you can afford it, get a mini split unit. I bought a 9k btu unit with inverter, fully precharged and complete with EVERYTHING, for $1100. Free delivery.
The only thing you can do at this point is sell that portable. You won't get what you paid for it so chalk it up as an expensive lesson.
Mini splits are probably the most efficient, mine is 18 seer.
Also, theirs an added benefit if you get one that uses an inverter; because the compressor runs at a "low power" setting to maintain temps, instead of either on or off, humidity is the least problematic with these systems.
When the compressor shuts off and the ac is just blowing the air around but not cooling it, thats when humidity starts to rise. The problem gets worse when the lights are off because the ac isn't kicking on as much.
I bought a dehumidifier but it barely kicks on, and only when lights off. I've been running it for over a week and the bucket has yet to fill up.
A window unit is your cheapest route, and they work great! A window unit and a dehuey and your set. But once you try a mini split, you'll never look back. It's as if these things were designed by growers lol.

You're probably right. I've already listed my portable A/c for sale. What is this "split" unit you are speaking of though? Do you mean a system that has a radiator outside of the building and then copper tubing that runs into the room kind of dealio? That would make way too much noise and look very silly connected to my shed lol. I could never get away with it. For $1100 I think i'd rather purchase an 800gallon swimming pool and a 2fan-3coil swamp cooler and run it on a closed loop through the winter. Less power consumption from what I hear, and it's not that heaty to rock a swimming pool outside your house.

just a thought, but can you lose a light or two,you should still get a good yield off half your room with what you have .dont spen your way out of the hole. its only as hard as you make it.

Its almost exactly like mine but mine is a hydrofarm Active Air a/c 12000 btu portable.it runs on 120v power supply and draws about 9.5 amps
