You should go out and buy 9 more hoods and use a flip flopping system to get the most of the 9 ballasts...there is a big difference between the 1k's and the 600's in their heat...and that the 600w has 10% less light output for the 40% drop in power...have you ever noticed that the standard size for hydro tables is 4'x8' and rarely 5'x10', which is because they are made for 600's. If you flip the hoods from the ballasts and set up a screen you could be getting 2x your yeild at least....you may also want to check out the sunsystem II hoods because I have seen 6" tube cooled hoods with batwing reflectors, and the ssII has a better light footprint.
Its a shame all folks want to do is quote shit they've read, you can convince someone of making a mistake that way.I dont really care what the books say,I've grown with 1000s and a friend flowers with 600s and there is no question I can flower larger plants better. Its simply much brighter, lumens per sq ft are nice but you take 3 vertizontal hoods and put 600s in one set and 1000s in the other and you will see the isnt any question.Nothing beats a 1000W fixture if you can deal with the heat, well maybe a 1500 but certyainly not a 600!
Now I'm not normally one to say this is better then that but in this case I will. I use to grow under 2 1000watt HPS on a 3x6 table SOG style w/72 plants, but now i use 3 600watt lights. The middle light i run a 600watt MH and the 2 outer lights are HPS. With 3 bulbs instead or 2 my light coverage is much better. Also if you compare light output to watts used the 600watt bulb is better. Which means that energy is going into making more light and less heat. I'm using 200watts less then 2000watts I did have but making more light, more even light and less heat. Hands down 600 watt lights are better the 1000 watts
that sound like a nice light set up for sure. but im not to sure about your clam that 1000w lights are better than 600w. maybe for someone who has space issues. but as far as light output 1000w are better. when u use 3 600w the way you have then your getting better coverage with three 600w lights than 2 1000.
I think ya'll are missing the point that greeny is growing trees, not SOGs. Trees require light penetration...SOG's don't. 600's are great for side lighting in a tree setup, but definitely not best suited to be the primary lighting.
BTW, the difference in lumens/watt for 600's vs 1K's is usually miniscule and depending on the brand of bulb, the 1K's can be more efficient...too bad that plants don't care about lumens though, only PAR watts
SKELITOR - of course two 1000s would do better than 2 600s, there's a 600 missing from that senario - then it would be a contest.
I was only using lumens as an example for my point Obviously plants are spectrum sensitive, using X to measure light output is irrelivant, given that both 600 and 1000 have the same PAR
Are you saying that 600W has the same PAR wattage as a 1000w?I think thats what you said, you cant believe that.Does a 600 and a 400 have the same PAR watts also?Too bad Overgrow isnt around they had par wattages in their faqs and believe me the larger the fixture the more PAR watts but thats common sense I think lol
1000W hortilux get pretty hot,but not too hot to manage.I run 3 1K vertizontals(non-cooled) in an 8 by 8 room with about 20,000 BTU's of AC.I love the vertizontal as a flowering fixture but they cant be cooled, you must use AC
