1000 Hps v 600 HPS

Hi all this is my first post here.

When you have one light per plant running 9 plants is their a big difference in using 1000 HPS or 600 HPS.

Heat is coursing me some problems but just a little

Or can I run more 600’s to get a better cover of light

my room is 4m x 4m x 3m high

Why would you want one light PER plant??? Seems like a bit of over kill....you could better optimize your grow I'd think...9000w per 9 plants....OR 5400w per 9 plants....waste of good lights and a TON of power($$$$$$)

Definitely go with the 1k's...and get them closer to the plants. Depending on how many lights you have, you can hang them vertically between the plants for maximum side lighting.

I am going the other way on this one. Having 9, 600watt lights 12" or so above each plant is better than 6, 1000watt spread out. A 600 is great for this and saves a little.Boy I wish I had your problem lol. Just my thoughts.

since we are all throwing out ideas. use 5 1000's to spread the light around, then 4 600's hung verticaly.

We have an air con and works just fine but never a split system again

But what is better 9 plants and 9 lights

Or 18 plants under 9 1000s???????

What will give me better yields?

Nothing beats 1000W lamps for flowering, and if you plants are of any size, you're going to get a lot better penetration to the lower budsites with a 1000W lamp, its all heat dependent but I'd definately go with 1000 if its a choice between the two.You have to consider the cost of lamps also I change every 18 months 1000s are expensive and 600s are worse, and forget ballast replacement lol

If he is growing Tree's it is not a waste. There is a thread showing 1 plant, 2400w yielding 3lbs 10oz. Not a waste to me.

you change the ballasts every 18? or the bulbs?

I pay $30 for 600 bulb and less than $30 for 1k MH bulb. I believe 1k HPS are more expensive though.

Ive always read that since 600watts give off less heat you can put them closer to the plants and actually get more light than you would with a 1000. Being closer they should also get good penetration to the lower parts. Thats just what ive read though. Probly want to get info from someone who as actually tried it. Just thought i would throw that info out there. Great lookin plants and room by the way. I love how clean it is. Peace and *bong* :friends:

a 600 produces more lumens per watt than a 1000 ,best option is 2 x 600 or 3 x 400 instead of a 1000 ,,if somebody bothers to find the technical data they'll see i'm right

That depends on how you cool the room/lights. You can let the plants grow right up to the light if you remove the heat. IMO the way to provide better penetration to the lower parts of the plant is to use multiple vertically hung lights.

1000w will ony penetrate 4' +/- a few " from the top. SOL in a 6'er

Devilock and Hazyfontazy are right. A 600w has more lumens per watt, giving more light for less money on the electric bill. More 600s vs. less 1000s means more even area coverage. A 600 is waay easier to cool saving even more money. Finally, you can get a air cooled 600 closer to the canopy than an aircooled 1000, meaning your plants get more light. 3 600w gives you 270,000 lumens from 3 sources, while 2 1000w gives you 280,000 lumens from 2 light sources. The 10,000 lumen loss is regained by 600's by getting them closer and having more footprint.
