bomb ass info in this thread...the larvae live off of your plants roots, they thrive in a moist ,warm environment. I have had literally thousands of gnats flying around my growroom in the past,which in turn spread to the rest of the house where I was living..You could not breath without getting a few in your mouth.
My solution was to disinfect the entire house where they could live and breed,clean up all food in the open(fruit,leftovers,trashcan), mold in the bathrooms( sink,toilet,tub) etc... After the house was clean I sprayed the soil with this soap solution montana mentioned. Turned my AC to ON for 2 days at 65 degrees,and did not water the plants for nearly two days.. They dissipated slowly ,and bug strips around the house were soon covered. I also find that a cup of vinegar and dish soap mixed in the corner of your room will collect and kill many.
