10" exhaust system

I'm currently getting my room dialed in for my grow and I have a 10" exhaust fan with a carbon filter. I have my fan plugged into a regulator which allows me to dial it down. However I'm not sure if that is more beneficial than running my fan on a timer once every 20 minutes at full capacity. Therefore, my question is would my plants benefit more from a slow and steady air exchange? Or a rapid air exchange every 20 minutes on a timer? Any thoughts would be much appreciated thanks!

It's not so much for the plants benefit as yours. Exhaust fans should be running continuously to avoid odour leakage.

My fan is 790 CFM and my room is 770 cubic feet. So basically the air is exchanged once a minute so right now I have it dialed down to about 5% which translates to 3 full exchanges every hour. Is that enough? Or should I increase it only if the odor becomes a problem as I start my
Grow? Thanks mikel

Besides odor control, if your not running Co2 you'll benefit from the fresh air exchange. I don't have any source to site but to me a slightly slower air flow constantly moving would get scrubbed better than a faster moving stream of air, due to longer time spent in contact with the carbon. I periodically tap on the sides of the filter as well as press on its sides hard while its on the floor to expose more facets of the carbon that may be unused.
