Cannabis Poet is Checking Out...

It is with great sadness that I must report that the Poet Emeritus of International Cannagraphic Magazine, Mr. Lee Bridges, the world-famous Cannabis Poet, is quite ill, and will be checking out of this life soon.

I am in Amsterdam this week, Lee called last Sunday, and said he'd be gone in a week to ten days, so I rushed here to say goodbye, after he asked to see me.

Lee Bridges is so cool that he is having a party the last few weeks of his life. Every day all his family and friends come visit in his apartment, and we talk to Lee, listen to him read poems, and sift thru the massive quantity of his work.

All of this is so ironic, considering he has just recently released his memoirs, "Me, Two - Reflections of the Cannabis Poet."

He asked me to tell everyone that he will miss us, but he will be watching over us from above. If you can, leave a message here for Lee, and someone will read them to him every day as long as he is still with us.

What is amazing to me, and all of us here, is his attitude. So simple, so loving, he couldn't bear to leave without saying goodbye properly to all of us... nor could we bear to see him go without a proper goodbye.

So if you love Lee like we all do, drop him a line here or leave your remembrance of him.

Peacefully,
Payaso

so much love for such an extraordinary person, that I will never get to know....

no tears but a smile for you Lee, the passing from this life to the next must be oh so bittersweet....

shine on from above, watch over us and know....

our thoughts follow your footsteps into the dawn...

May your sails unfurl and the wind cary you homeward bound Lee.
I vow to learn about you and read your words and remember you even though we have never met. I do remember seeing a picture of you in a magazine gypsy nirvana sent me...and your smile spoke volumes.
I could tell from that face, now here's a cool cat. :joint:
Im glad your going to be watching down on us from above, god knows we all need watching over and one day we will all meet under the same sky..until then brother, may peace be with you...

I'll be going back over there tomorrow at 1:30... about 30 people came by today and we had a picnic. It was great to see him smiling and ordering us all around!
Making sure this and that is dealt with properly.
Did you know he has published over 150 books of poetry in his life?
He asked me to take the copies he has saved to the Library of Congress, but I think maybe we should scan and post some of his cannabis poetry...

payaso, thank you very much for giving us the opportunity to say goodbye to this extraordinary person.

Maybe you could send some of Lee's poetry to Crazy Composer for the Flower Pix News? I've already approached him to suggest publishing some of Lee's work.

Yes, we have a page in the next issue of IC Mag with a poem by Lee and his picture... the mag really does exist... and there may be some material available to use for the newsletter as well.

I'm sure Lee will love hearing your kind thoughts!

Only we can walk our path, this crazy thing we call Life.

Only we can walk our path, this crazy thing we call Life.

Mr.Lee,

Your words will live on
Even through the pain.
May your soul soar High,
Into the next plane.
Until that time arrives,
That you are back around.
Spilling out those cool ass poems,
and puffin' the best weed in town...

Peace

My message to Lee, aka "The Cannabis Poet"

My message to Lee, aka "The Cannabis Poet"

I was very fortunate to have the honor of meeting you last year Lee. In our short acquaintence I felt a bond forming quickly. You sir are a Buddha showing by the example of your life what enlightenment is. My regret is that you will be leaving us but I want to tell you something.

My father passed of a similar ailment not so long ago and when he died he visited my mother. In spirit he told her this, "I am fine Mary and it's wonderful! I can fly anywhere in an instant and see anything in the world." My father had feared the final outcome as any brave man does. I told him it would be ok.

When faced with my death I hope to show the courage you and other men have shown as they faced the uncertain unknown. Let me tell you that I know you need not be afraid Lee. You have attained enlightenment in this life and you have shown many others the way.

I believe in being in control of our fate and I hope you remain in control of everything having to do with your departure. May you enjoy humane treatment in an enlightened country called Holland.

I love you Lee. BOG :friends:

Farewell in your journey and save a seat for me.

Your thoughtful words have been an inspiration to many. You have bettered this small world in such a large way. If pen were a sword, you have lived the life of a Knight or a Samuria. You should take great pride in the many you have enlightened.
Happy trails............

I guess since I have been around so many terminaly ill people in my life, I have a different view point on death...Too me death is a beautiful thing, by no means an ending....Mr. Bridges is going to the next stage of his journey, and my only regret is he will not be able to write about it  enjoy the journey my brother....

Hello my friend, I don't know you and you don't know me. I do have something to share with you though, something important to me and hopefully something you can find some value in. It was my walk to the beach today. I took the same walk the other day with a friend. It was so Good that I had to do it again.

The walk begins at the top of the mountain and from here it looks impossiby distant.

The waves are barely audible and the beach seems so far away, but it's calling and I can't resist

As I walk downward I start to smell the beach , hear the animals. The ocean is roaring and the birds calling. It's calling me to it and (like I said) I can't fight it.

Almost there and I find a log that someone has carved on, someone with talent. I wonder why they did this .... is it for me? It strikes a cord with my soul and I sit here a while ... smoke a bowl and wonder about the person who put this here and why?

I made it to the beach!!! The birds are louder, the sun is warming my face, and the smell of the salt water is refreshing, renewing. My heart jumps and swells with joy!!! This is it! Where I was supposed to be today!

I can't lie to ya'! I smoked another bowl when I hit the bottom! It was real pretty, fresh air, the wind wasn't blowing at all. As you can see there was no fog either!

Up the beach there was a big empty bowl in the side of the cliff

... and I wanted to go check it out, besides, what else was I here for?!?

Well.... two things actually! First there's this:

and second (and third really!) there's this

and this

I found them....and they're mine....I'm staying till the sun goes down. It's gorgeous here.

I walked around on the beach, turning over rocks and looking at anenomes and sand crabs, playing with those "crazy kelps" with the little ball at one end and the "whip" at the other. I know...I'm a little kid at heart, but it's fun and nobodies watching so who cares?

Well.... I stayed till it got dark (I brought the flashlight for the trip out!) and here's what I was rewarded with!!!

And since the moon was as beautiful as it could possibly be at that moment I started walking out ... a lot of work ... uphill....lots of uphill. I barely looked at anything but the next few feet of trail in front of me. It was a tough climb. Dark. Lonely. A little spooky, but ... it was time to go home. I walked on up the hill, sweating, out of breath and more than a few goose bumps on the back of my neck.

When I FINALLY reached the top, I turned back to the beach to see where I had climbed up from....a serious effort I was already rewarding myself for and ....

The moon exploded into this! I felt like my heart had grown in proportion with the exaggerated version of the moon I was facing! I felt peaceful and happy. I stayed until the moon slid out of view and then drove home feeling warm and satisfied.

I hope you took this walk with me. It was a wonderful experience. One I would never, ever forget given the choice.

I never met you Lee, but anytime we lose a soldier on our side of the war on drugs, it's a sad day. You love your art, speak your mind honestly, and are clearly a good man.You clearly are not afraid to put yourself on the line for the good of all. We all know, honesty is frowned upon by the prohibitionists.
I salute you sir. The next bong hit is for you.
