Im making this thread for everyone to come in and post their pc specs (if you feel like it, or if worth mentioning) Also- maybe if it gets past a page or 2... people can start posting here for all the techie computer people to help you out and answer any questions

Nothing special here. Inspiron 1300 w/ 1.6g celeron. 512 mb RAM. 30 gb hdd w/ 250 gb seagate external SATA.
Running Ubuntu 7.4 Gutsy(Gnome), Slackware 12(XFCE), and Windows XP for the wife. Working on getting some old ~700 mh machine to use as a server(SAMBA/LAMP) & project computer. Figured I may upgrade the motherboard at some point to a ~2 ghz w/ a couple gigs of ram. Honestly, I don't need anything too fast. No gaming/crazy multimedia here

Oh..and Overgrow..I have no idea why you would need/want to overclock that. Last thing I overclocked was the processor on an old Toshiba(3-some mhz). From what I remember, it was just messing w/ the jumpers..but there's no need to overclock that. I don't know what kind of performance you think you're lacking, but your PC seems pretty cherry to me.

Hah...what's funny is explaining to people how you setup the grow in a pc case. Combining cannabis growing and computer jargon ****ing confuses the shit out of most people.

"I gutted the entire PC, used the power supply case to hold my 75 watt High Pressure Sodium ballast. Ran the 2 old PC fans for intake/exhaust..hooked to an ac/dc converter. Got a Blueberry clone SCROG-style in a SWC with GH Nutes.......and my mother cab looks the same"

gmb you should be good with what you got if your not doing any 3d apps, games ect... the reason im wanting to overclock is because there is a new game called crysis out and so far up until now i can run everything on max settings with x16 aa/af and this crysis game is a little slow (36fps) on my machine and I am trying to figure out why it would skip as good as i feed my computer it should crush any game but i can't seem to figure out the problem.
First im going to try to over clock my processor to 3.0 ghz after i get that big fancy ultra electrothermal cooler. then i want to over clock my ram to 1000mhz... then overclock my video card slightly, and eventully get a new faster hard drive. other than that i don't know what else i can do...

Yeah...you'll need plenty of cooling if you're going to run your pc like that.
That shit amazes me, though. All that stuff and you still aren't able to run a game smoothly. I don't think I'll see 4gb RAM for another 5 years..but we've all heard/said similar things before.
I guess overclocking is like running a (turbo/supercharged) car with crazy amounts of boost. If you have solid internals, everything will(normally) be ok. But you'll need a good board/power supply. I like to take the direction of "Just make the car lighter". Same specs, less load.

Pretty sure he was joking. If he wasn't, please pass me whatever he was just puffing on.

Hi OG, Impressive specs there mate. I just bought Crysis and I have
AMD 64 X2 3800 CPU
2 gigs of DDR low latency ram
8800 GT 512 MB,
SATA HD 320GB
Asus AN32SLI MB
silverstone 560 watt PSU
My old sony platinum 5.1 soundcard with frontside attachments taking up a CD slot
Fusion dual digital HD tv Tuner
600 watt generic sound system
2x19 inch LCD monitors
G5 Logitech gaming mouse
Sony DVD 16x burner
Wacom Graphics tablet intuos 3
10$ keyboard ( no use paying big buks for a key board they last the same amount of time and this new one i bought is better than my old microsoft keyboard)

Programs I run

Win XP 64bit Pro (just upgraded a week ago from Win2000Pro, alot of difference in speed, I wouldnt touch Vista, not yet anyway and its been out a year or so, you always need to give operating systems a few years to sort their shizzle out, driver and software upgrades etc, and now Vistas unwillingness to allow simple upgrades to hardware etc is ludicrous)
Archicad
Autocad
3d Studio Max
V-ray
Photoshop
Call of duty 4
Crysis
Quake 3 arena
Quake 4
Soldier of fortune 2

A blingy case with the side window

and Im having a tiny bit of trouble running crysis on high settings on my 19 inch LCD at 1280x1024, its sketchy in some stages and better in others.
Ive found out a hack to get XP to run Crysis on Very high settings but wouldnt even bother as High is still kinda sketchy.
Im not that impressed with the game actually, mind you Im not that far into it, maybe i should give it a chance, but seems kind of boring and the graphics settngs on high really arent that great.

I am however Extremely happy with Call of Duty 4 and everything about it. Single player mode is excellent with different missions and the continuity of it is just great. Multiplayer online is fabulous and is definately my favourite game next to quake 3 rocket arena. I can play Call of duty 4 fine with very good FPS at the highest settings possible, however I dont use depth of field as it can put the wrong things in focus and get you killed.

I read somwhere some dude in Germany has 3 X 8800 GTX in SLI and still has trouble with FPS in the highest settings.

Even though I wanted Crysis to be better than COD 4, I still reckon the graphics and gameplay and overall experience in Call of Duty 4 far outweigh that of Crysis, at least on my system.

OG, specs are in my first post..it's just a Dell inspiron 1300(b130) with a 1.6(or 1.4..can't remember) celeron. 512 mb ram, bcm43xx wifi, couple usb ports, 30 gb hdd, and 250 gb SATA. Running Ubuntu w/ Gnome, Slackware 12 w/ xfce, and Windows XP(for my wife...even she doesn't feel the need for it usually). The most programs I run would probably be 2 xterms, 1 or 2 firefox windows, GIMP, VLC or Mplayer, qtorrent...and that's about it. Not much here.
When I ran Windows(everything except vista), my computer was usually slow for various reasons. It's good to clean out your temp files & cache. This includes internet and other temp files Windows like to create. Defrag is good, but I didn't even do that all too much. 90% of your performance comes from your ram. You can have a 1.6 ghz running 256 mb ram with XP and it will(depending on the processes) be slow as Christmas..but pop in an extra 256(total:512) and you'll feel the difference immediately. You might want to just get rid of all the stuff that runs on startup. There's the "startup" folder in "start..programs...startup", but you can also check out everything in your registry (start...run..type in "regedit"..go to hkey_local_machine....software...microsoft....windows...current version...run). I think this is right..I haven't used Windows in about a year(minus using Word, Access, and Excel at work on occasion), so I can't remember if I missed a registry folder, but I think that's right. You'll see a bunch of stuff that you may or may not want.
