The left part of the photo above is a part of an image posted on the Internet of somebody who has posted more than 200 images of him sexually abusing children.

Little did he know that the filtering algorithm he used (easily done by software like Adobe Photoshop) can be UNDONE essentially by applying the algorithm - in reverse. It's not a perfect recovery as you can see because the filter discards some of the original data in the filtering process, but it's good enough that you'd recognise the guy if you knew him.
Quite a crafty bit of detective work i thought!

Shows you what an idiot he is, not even thinking while he edited his own photo, that it could easily be reversed by anyone with half a brain. He could have used a series of filters, rather than one simple straight forward one.

But then he must be a real douche anyways for hurting little kid.

R03, I can't tell you how glad I was to see that there was more than your first 'paragraph'. Agreed. Pheno, I read this a few hours ago, and what's kind of cool is that this is the first time interpol has ever made a public appeal for anything. It kinda sounds like what they're doing in Nevada with that guy they identified in child porn tape. Good, plaster that shit all over. These are the people who should be america's most wanted. Not old farts like whitey bulger, or cocaine drug lords from other countries.

The funny thing is that all he had to do was create say a plain black square over his face, destroying the original image data of his face. By applying a filter the original image data is modified, but often still preserved somewhat. Some data will always be lost by these types of filters, but this 'swirl' filter for example basically just twists the image - it doesnt really remove any of it as such. But what would a lowlife like him know?

i dont understand why a law enforcement agency would advertise that they can do this as more freaks could be cought...its wasnt exactly common knowledge, but it sure is now.

They're actually showing it cause they have no idea who he is, he has no record, in any system where charges, or convictions are concerned.

So they need the public to make the positive ID on the bastard. It's everywhere, on practically every news broadcast station, etc.

His pics were taken in Cambodia, Vietnam, #1 vacation spots for serious child molesters. He enjoys the company of little boys also.

I hope I bump into him, he wouldn't make it to jail.

That was my thought as well. Sure - show the recovered photo of his face, but I didn't see the need to show the original and show/explain how its done when that's a trick up their sleeve that was - until yesterday - virtually unknown by most people.

I'm hoping he uses a fork, and that it hurts heaps, and that he'll cry.

Show a wanted man's face on TV, and he will flee/go into hiding. I know I would, and good luck finding me.

This is kind of like a last resort, put the word out massively, since they have no idea who he is. A surprise attack, get the word out fast, everywhere, and most likely the public will nab him themselves. Before he gets a chance to go into hiding, flee, or every hurt another innocent child.

Not to digress, but filters are for punks.

whats sad is interpol(wich needs more than 1 billion dollars to work efficiently) cracked the case, they actaully have tons of warnings..., i saw a tv show that hows how much bigger budgets for hugely currput police departments gettting way bigger budgets(you cant imagine NYC's budget), id think interpols budget should be a lil larger considering crimes, illegal controband is usually internationally transported at somepoint?

Well Interpol is more a collaboration between international polices, not a police force itself in that sense. When they find out who this guy is it'll still be local police forces putting out warrants and making the arrest etc

All I can really say about this is that if this guy gets caught, they had better throw him in the general population of inmates....

A SUSPECTED pedophile being hunted worldwide after posting internet pictures of himself raping young boys was identified by police today as a 32-year-old Canadian on the run in Thailand.

Thai police and the international police agency Interpol named the suspect as Christopher Paul Neil and said he arrived into Bangkok's main airport last Thursday.

It follows a groundbreaking urgent appeal last week when the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) issued a global request for assistance on its website, along with a picture recovered from one of his own images of him abusing boys in Cambodia and Vietnam.

"Thai police are collecting evidence and information from neighbouring countries and other Interpol members to seek a court order for an arrest warrant," police Colonel Apichart Suriboonya said.

"Thai police are working closely with Interpol to search for the man."

Interpol's Cambodian office confirmed the suspect's identity, and said that immigration officers were monitoring the borders in case he tried to enter.

"We have alerted all of our international borders," Keo Vanthan, head of Interpol in Cambodia, said.

No arrest warrant had been issued for Neil, he said.

Interpol said yesterday that Neil was a teacher of English at a South Korean school and that he was believed to be in Thailand.

Officials say he flew from Seoul to Bangkok last Thursday, when security cameras at the airport documented his arrival at immigration.

That image - released by Interpol - shows him as balding and with glasses, although previous pictures had him with more hair and no glasses.

"Thailand is at the centre of an international manhunt and authorities in the country, in cooperation with Interpol and police around the world, are hunting him down," Interpol chief Ronald Noble said in yesterday's statement.

Some 350 people have reportedly given information after Interpol's appeal for help. The agency said key information came from five different sources on three continents.

International police and prosecutors are collecting and analysing evidence to bring charges against the man Interpol has dubbed "Vico".

Crazy, he was moonlighting as an English teacher. How obvious is that, the fact that he would of course live there, and not just vacation there. Teaching English like most non asian people do there.
