last time i made them (april 20th) i used a half ounce of commercial mids and i was absolutely stoned.

step 1: Grind the stuff into a fine powder

step 2: Simmer the stuff into some butter

step 3: The longer you let it simmer, the more THC is extracted

step 4: mix the butter in with the batter. (I usually dont use a specific amount of butter. I just make sure the mix does not go dry.

step 5: cook the brownies based on the directions on the box

step 6: After the brownies have cooled, divide the pan up and disperse accordingly.

usually 1 brownie knocks me on my ass for the whole day.

get a cheap half ounce, and 9 friends (assuming that you divide the pan into 9 squares) and have them throw in $10 for a slice. Not only is the cost of the weed credited, but you will all be getting one hell of a cheap high.

mmmmm butter. doit. Basics on cannabutter, for bomb butter you gotta go the distance. I take mine on a 5/6 hour journey(4/5 rush job). Dont burn the butter, easiest way to lose potency not to mention yeild. I go for the set it and forget method by doin the herb butter business but with that adding plenty o water throught the 6 hour process keeping a rolling boil, leaving no oppurtunity for the budder to burn. When Do I stop? Cooking is about timing, towards the last 30 min of the cooking the mixture will have a black reflective surface. Look for this "shine", when you see it give yourself a pat on the back (when sifted and cooled butter will remain floating above the water; be sure to evaporate most of the water before you finsih up taking extra care not to burn the butter) lipids and water dont mix. The rest is subjective, I like strong cannatreats, experiment with how much herb youd like to put in but remember you can never go wrong with more.(28g to stick of butter works well for me) kind kind kind. leave the hemp for jewlery making kids.

Definitely butter.
You can use anything from trim to dank nugs, the more potent that you put in, the more potent what you get out.
Melt the butter and add in the green material, then simmer on low (I put it at the lowest setting my stovetop) for at LEAST 3 hours.
Strain with cheesecloth and from there you COULD use a box of brownie mix or you could:
Melt some semisweet bakers chocolate, about 6 squares, in the butter, then remove from heat.
Stir in 2 cups of sugar, then 3 eggs and 1 tablespoon vanilla extract.
Add 1 cup flour, mix well and spread in a 9x13 inch pan.
Bake at 325 for about 30 minutes, let cool and enjoy! :D

I have read that the best way to make kick ass cannabutter is to use a crock pot. Longer the better.

Using a crock pot is a good way of cooking it, but i find that you can't get it hot enough without burning the butter. The heat is the catalyst for the reaction between the butter and herb extraction. IMHO It's all about keeping that rolling boil while being weary, by adding water before it all evaporates on ya. any pot will do, I use a circular pot with an 10in diameter, its a few inches tall works good for me. On a sidenote I make some bomb ass treasure candles with that crock pot. My girl and I get down on some wax time fun.

I am going to go against the grain and suggest using oil rather than butter especially if it is your first time making brownies. It is simpler and, I believe, a little more efficient at extracting thc (owing to method, not chemistry) plus you don't have to worry about potentially browning the butter. Oil also has a higher smoke point than butter and keeps fairly well so you can make a large batch and save some for latter. Finally, while butter certainly does make for better homemade brownies, I always use the box mixes when making special brownies and most call for oil rather than butter.

I typically use about 1/4 oz of finely ground regs per box of mix and divide the resulting pan into 8 brownies. Each brownie has a little less than a gram of weed this way which is plenty to put infrequent smokers down for the count but is just right to leave me extremely high for about 8 hours, your mileage may vary and a lot depends on the quality of the weed.

To extract the thc, add 1/4oz finely ground weed to however much oil (canola and vegetable seem to work best) the recipe calls for and cook over medium low heat for around an hour stirring frequently. After the oil has cooled, strain the mixture through cheesecloth. Straining isn't always important, if I'm just making brownies for myself I don't bother and don't see any real difference but some people complain of stomach discomfort without straining plus the texture is better in the finished product. Add the canna oil to the recipe as directed on the box.

There are as many ways to cook with weed as there are people who do the cooking so try a few methods and see what works best for you. For example, some cook weed in oil for as long as 12 hrs while others only cook it for 20 minutes. I cook for an hour because it is convenient and results in a potent enough product for me. If you do use butter I suggest the crock pot method and it really is best to use clarified butter. Good luck and let us know how they turn out!

Illusion,

Great post. Following your method, with 2.4g "Unweed" vaporizer pellets, and 1.4g fresh sensi, made from box brownie mix, in a 9x9 pan, cut into 9 squares, I found myself high for at least 7 hours...4 of those 7 were some of the most intense hours of my life. ;)

Additionally, I find that, as a consumer, and not a grower, that a vaporizer has been one of the best investments ever. First you get to vape, then you get to eat and get high with the vaporozer "waste".

Thanks again for this simple, yet informative post.

I'm glad it worked out well for you! I have never cooked with vape leftovers but have read a good bit about it. What vaporizer do you use and what temp / setting do you top out at before using the herb for cooking? Also, what does it look like when you're done and do you regrind it? I ran something over a QP through a friends volcano this past spring but threw all the leftovers away before reading about cooking with it. :frown:

hey i just made a batch of cannabutter and so far i like it best when i make the brownies according to the box and just spoon melted cannabutter on top (i let it soak in a little). mmm

i know its fine but i didnt feel like heating the butter that high in the mix.

I use the Vapolution Vap...I use the 1-2 o'clock setting, and take drags until it tastes funny (which is just about the time that no more vapor come out of the bowl). I am using the "All-In-Wonder" bowl, because my wife and I do not like the long whips, and smoking with this bowl is more like using a traditional bong (it even has a carb). It is of a little thicker glass that the whips that come in the stock kit. I am guessing that it cooks it about the same as the 12 o'clock setting with the stock bowls.

Here is a picture of the unit, and the option bowl:

The pellets are dark, but not black. We save them up in a small sushi-tupperware container until it is full. Then, we dump it all onto a large dish, and crush it into a powder with a large tablespoon by rocking it back and forth over the pellets. That then goes into fresh butter on simmer, or veg oil on the "3" setting of the small burner of an electric rangetop.

We let it go for 1-1.5 hours, then pour it through a strainer, directly into the brownie mix that was just mixed up. If the box calls for 1/4 cup of oil, we use 1/4 cup, then still pour the 1 stick worth of butter into it. When the brownies are done, we let them cool for 10 min in the freezer, then cut then up. The butter re-hardens, and the brownies taste especially rich and good because of the added butter.

With fresh weed, it takes my wife 2-2.5 hours to feel it on an empty stomach...with the vap, it's like an hour. I am guessing this is due to the fact that the vap (decarbolized) SP? the weed to a level in which her liver processes it faster.

For instance, raw weed firecrackers...they took 3 hours to hit her...the next day, I nuked one in the microwave after it came out of the oven, until it started to stink. This one, of the same dosage, strain, and batch, hit her in 45 minutes.

Perhaps certain people lack a liver enyzme or something that increases the asorbtion rate?

We are using straight vap pellets now, with NO fresh weed, and find the high to be equally strong, without being freaky, all of this with a quicker onset.

Here are a few pics... a picture of the cooking goo, and the small sushi box (bought from Daiso store in the mall...tons of great containers and gadgets to use with weed, at a 3/1 dollar type of price):

I don't weigh it anymore, we just fill the contrainer with pellets, and when it's full, we cook brownies. It seems to be just the right strength for both of us.

Don't have semi sweet chocolate squares??? Found out a substitute is 3 tablespoons coco powder plus 1 tablespoon butter (or canna butter)

I did not know you could use vaped weed for cooking. That is awesome, I need to whip up a batch this weekend with some fresh and start saving the vaped stuff. Thanks!!

oh, what temp do you bake at? I thought i read that over 300 degrees ruined the cannabinoids or something like that. Do you follow the temps on the instructions or are you lowering them a bit to like 275? Thanks

last time i did brownies, i used no more than 300 degrees.. personally i stay away from them now due to the prolonged relatively high heat exposure... and im terrifically bored with them.

anyway... use a glass pan or dark metal to lower the cooking temps by 25 degrees off the bat, most recipes for bread type baking will call for 350 so if your getting your medicate on its certainly best to either lower the temp and cook longer or decide on a less harsh recipe.
